I like how in the end Shang Tsung is played by Richard Divizio. This means that throughout the series he played Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Kano and Baraka. Basically most of the iconic villains in the series.

I can't understand why this game is regarded as "poorly received" by public/critics. It's just awesome. The MK franchise should have had more games like that.
they did, they made MK Special Forces but that was awful, they redeemed themselves with MK Shaolin Monks years later. MK9 is the beginning of these kinds of story playing mode. I'm glad that in MK9 they referenced this game to give it more importance to the storyline and more sympathy towards Sub-Zero
Yes, MK SF had scathing reviews, but it's a lot different from mythologies. I think they could have made more "mythologies" expanding the rich MK canon until that point. And following the "eastern" atmosphere.
And I dunno about Jax being that popular to the point of have it's own adventure.

I'd say this game is underrated. It managed to mix fighting and platforming just fine. The music definitely suits the atmosphere of the game. The controls at least for me were good. (then again, I played it on my laptop). The story is great, definitely the strongest point of the game.

Any true gamer would have loved this game. I think it was just too hard for some people so they dislike it. This was a really interesting game which gave me hours of enjoyment. Those were the days.

I don't know why people came down so hard on this really, even before the days of people just adopting the opinions of their favourite atention seeking RUclips nonentities. It's actually pretty good, and laid the groundwork for the excellent Shaolin Monks. It's certainly a lot better than Special Forces, that deserves the vitriol more.

By God, this is one of my favorite PS games of all time! I still pull it out and play it from time to time!
I was in my teens when i first played this game. It took me so many retries to finally finish it.
I just love how Shang Tsung casually comes in right after Sub Zero just got done dealing with one sorcerer.
About 7 years after this game they decided that Sub-Zero, after surviving this entire game, went to Mortal Kombat 1, only to be killed by Scorpion. He dies, goes to Hell (the Nether Realm), and becomes Noob Saibot before MK2/Shaolin Monks. So he remains Noob Saibot throughout Ultimate MK3, and MK4, and MK: Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon. In the remake, MK9, the same story plays out the same way again.

I noticed Sub-Zero’s face when he found out the entire Shriu Ryu clan was wiped out. Before he became Noob Saibot, Elder Sub-Zero wasn’t heartless.

I love this game too and I have an advice for u, don't listen anyone who is interrupting to do or play what u like. Because everyone has their own favorites. And it is not right to go against everything what they hate.

Back in the day I remember reading about this game in The Official Uk PlayStation Magazine. It was the only time I ever saw them give a game a 1/10. I'm just here to see for myself.
I find it hard to believe that Sub-Zero beats Scorpion (twice including undead), the elemental gods, and friggin Shinnok in Shinnok's realm in this and then manages to get himself killed by undead Scorpion later. He must've had one helluva bad day that day or MK needs to be more consistent as to who is stronger than who.
Well that was the irony. The older Sub-Zero was strong but in the end he didn't choose a different path and that's why he got killed and became a servant of Shinnok. The younger Sub-Zero is probably not stronger, but he is definitely smarter.
FoieGras Well both sub-zeros are among the strongest characters.
The elemental gods are strong, but not as strong as Raiden is, for example..
Scorpion: in human mortal form he might have been weaker than in Spectre form (just like Sub-Zero becomes more powerful when he becomes Noob Saibot)
In Spectre form here Scorpion might still be relatively weak, being just killed and resurrected not too long ago.
Probably Scorpion's powers grew by the time he joined the tournament and was able to defeat Sub-Zero.
Quan Chi: canonically Sareena helps Sub-Zero to defeat him, so he's not alone in the fight.
Shinnok: one might argue that Shinnok is still weak. He just escaped his imprisonment and he wears a fake amulet (Quan Chi kept the original for himself) and moreover Shinnok just overthrew Lucifer from the throne of the NetherRealm, hence Shinnok might still be weak from that battle as well when he faces Sub-Zero.

In any case consistency in MK and many other fighting games is tenous at best... In principle Raiden should ne much more powerful than most other characters, since he's a god... and Shinnok should be the strongest of all, since he is an Elder God.
Awesome observations.
Problem is that Shinnok is a fallen elder God, thus he lost most of his power. Raiden is strong, but he has to limit his powers in order to go to the mortal world, not to mention that Shang tsung and Quan chi´s magic matches the strenght of raiden.
that's because ed baboon sucks at making good stories unlike john tobias. also in the og timeline scorion ambushed bi han between mk1 and mk2 because he knew that he would never defeat him in a fair fight.

Yeah me too I remember having my friend shout out combos while I jab them into the controller and when we finally beat Raiden it was around 5:30 I mostly remember how excited and how accomplished I felt.. I love nostalgia which is why i'm looking at all my favorite games from my childhood right now

Regarding the reason why people upload games like this, there's no reason why they shouldn't. Just because somebody thinks a game is shit doesn't mean it's less worthy of being played for others to view, especially if it concerns a game that is not readily available anymore.
Moving on, now. I love how at 1:35 this appears like another MK fighting game, and then your opponent runs off while you chase after him.
Looks like this game brilliantly told some of Bi-Han's backstory. (As in Bi-Han, I meant the original Sub-Zero. Not the 2nd one, Kuai Liang.)
So wait, there are two Sub-Zeros? What's next, Scorpion having another brother who also happens to be Scorpion?

I remember finally beating the game I stop playing mythologies sub zero just because it took me forever to beat now looking back it gave me really fun memories and the many hours (and the many game overs) to beat the game
I think they should remake and remaster this game. I'm so interested in playing it, and I never got to play it. And whenever they make an Mk11 (or MkXI), I hope they bring back Noob Saibot as a playable character again. They should also bring back the Original Sub-Zero with his Mk9 costume (with some newer details), and his ice ball shout in Mk9 along with his classic stance in Mk1 and classic moves derived from this game, such as his combos, and his icy counter etc albeit a lot realer and well balanced of course. It'll be pretty neat as a mixture in my opinion.

Я наверное один, который любит эту игру без остатка. В ней прекрасно все. А так ругаемое всеми управление на самом деле очень лёгкое, просто нужны все кнопки джойстика и ловкость пальцев.
Максимальная сложность на самом деле очень лёгкая.
Дизайн шикарный, музыка шикарная, история - топ, персонажи супер, графика великолепная и смешение 3D и 2D оцифрованных героев очень удачное. Играть интересно, а видео заставки выполненные в кинематографичном стиле просто подарок для любого фаната МК. Я поражаюсь, что со временем игроки не приняли игру, это говорит о том, что истинных фанов настоящего МК очень мало. Остальные графодрочеры или киберкотлеты.

PLOT HOLE: The Shirai Ryu were formed by a former Lin Kuei member. Therefore, it's only rational that Ninjutsu in the MK Universe is descended from Lin Kuei martial arts. Therefore, one could argue the Lin Kuei are technically ninja. Super Ninja to be exact.

Imagine a modern Mortal Kombat game but with an open-world action gameplay with some RPG elements, like the Darksiders series. The game could star Liu Kang as he travels through the different realms ( the same realms as in MK Deception's Konquest Mode ), collecting magic items and doing quests for NPCs ( those NPCs could be other MK characters ). It would be awesome.
