First compilation of calm SEGA Genesis and Mega Drive music.
Audio recorded from authentic and original Sega Mega Drive (model 1, VA6.5).
- - -
This compilation includes some 32x soundtracks from games Knuckles Chaotix and Cosmic Carnage, but they are played only through Genesis as this is possible apparently (though losing some details in these tracks).
- - -
Big thanks to Sega-16 forum members who greatly helped me find soundtracks for this compilation, especially member EPSYLON EAGLE.
Also incredibly huge thanks to member Stef, who made beautiful XGM Player which is displayed in this video for your entertainment while listening to amazing music.
You can get XGM Player ROM file (seen in this video) over here:
random-inn.id.lv/downloads
With this ROM file you can play music tracks (showcased in this video) on your own Sega Mega Drive /Genesis console (if you have some sort of flashcart) or in any modern MD/Gen emulator.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them over here or in Random Inn's Forum.
Thank you! :)
wow priceless, thanks
I really love your video format. Showing the song currently being played, with the title, game and author displayed is really convenient. Then I can leave it open in a smaller window and I don't have to constantly check the timecode in the description to find out what song it is. Good job!
Thank you! :)
Phantasy Star had such good music, especially 2. Thank you!
Agree! Although Phantasy Star IV isn't far away from pure awesomeness, is it?
almost every single song you have chosen is one of my favourite songs in the games , great choices :)
Long live Genesis sound chip.
Thank you sir !
Long live Mega Drive sound chip!
@@SproutyPottedPlant Haha, love these Mega Drive and Genesis wars. I'm on Mega Drive side as an European, but should not disregard our American fellows.
@@RandomInnVGMsThere’s no argument that the console in question is: Sega Mega Drive that had to be renames Sega Genesis for the NA region because of copyright reasons.
So from a techical standpoint it’s never a Sega Genesis.
Sega Genesis just has a strong voice because the NA market was so big and also Sega of America played a big part in Mega Drive’s (also known as the Genesis in NA) success.
What hurts me though is the Wikipedia page:
”The Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive outside North America”
Because it’s like it assumes it was created for America and that it was the only region that mattered.
It’s hurtful the whole page is named Sega Genesis and not Sega Mega Drive.
It’s like if a Porsche 911 could have not been named 911 because of it’s the emergency number and the car would have been named Porsche Bible, and now if we googled Porsche 911 a Porsche Bible title would be the Wikipedia page title.
Thanks for showing me that not all music on the Genesis is techno, disco, and fast-paced.
That's the purpose of my work in this channel - to make public aware and make it not believe misconceptions. 🙂
What a weird comment
Honestly, It's still to me one of the best sounding synths period. People made this chip into a hardware synth recently, and the pads and bells you can get are just so complex and beautiful!
Disco?
You mean digital sound
Didn't expect Phantasy Star II to be the first track in this list. Nice 👍
Was it a great choice? 😋
@@RandomInnVGMs ABSOLUTELY
Ys III: Wanderers from Ys - Premonition , this song is pure gold man.
Some people once said what game ost is nothing special...
Eternal fools, eternal clowns all of them, this music is absolute Masterpiece.
Just what the doctor ordered. More helpful than medication.
Glad to rehear Wonderboy in Monster World in this playlist. It brought me back some nostalgia. Thank you for this awesome playlist!
This video is absolutely amazing, it's a treasure. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you for great feedback!
This is an amazing upload. Especially having track info on screen (in a gorgeous way too!)
Thank you for your kind words! For gorgeous player in video I should thank Stef and his XGM Player.
Sega will always have the best music, forever!
Just picked up a Genesis Mini and 6 Button Controller. Let the good times roll!
God Damn is that UI so clean and cool. Thanks for the great mix!
Absolutely! Thanks Stef for it's XGM Player.
Just wanted to say Hello and Good Morning to Peeteris Silent and to those listening to this compilation right now. I have fallen in love with the Megadrive/Genesis sound and can not get enough of it. Keep on grooving*
Oh, thank you! I recently uploaded a new compilation, you should absolutely check it! 😍☺
Glad yo hear that you have fallen in love with it! It makes my work feel worthy.
This is a great compilation
Thank you so much for the mix!
I Love the Megadrive nice 16 Bit Maschin.
Thank you
Ahhhhhh .... love it. Thanks for making!
Very good mix! Relaxing and quiet one, useful while studying!
Hey, great compilation!
A little confused by not seeing Ecco the dolphin here. It has some of the most ethereal ambience org music. But all good, great selection!
Thanks 4 this melodies! Nostalgie!
loved this ty, i noticed Traysia straight away
Amazing list, thanks so much!
Enjoy and check my other videos too! :)
Excellent selection
So calming. I like these songs.
Glad you enjoy it!
right.. especially "Suspicion" /s
6:18 damn! I expected to hear Jim Morison from then Doors kick in there!
Riders on the Storm? Never would've thought about that, haha. Would love to hear rendition of this song on MD/Gen. :)
@@RandomInnVGMs yeah! 😃
you did an amazing job with this video. thank you. so informative and enjoyable. 700th like!
Hey! Thank you! That 270 and 700th like comment was nice, too. Could have left that there. 😎😃
71 Sounds almost identical to ze Zelda's Great Fairy Fountain.
In the ice cave is real good too
The horror theme in Daffy Duck in Hollywood is nasty. Like so nasty and brilliant at the same time. It is number 36 btw.
I really like Matt Furniss work on this game, especially this 'nasty track. 😄 Maybe because I'm a fan of Jesper Kyd's work on MD and this remimds me of that.

First sega chill music video is actually relaxing and chill, great job
I wonder how is you secret 😆😆😆
Ohh, yeah Hi from brazil 🇧🇷
tectooooooy
master piece
02:20:29 and 02:22:22 those songs always heal my soul
I'm glad you got so far. Is it because you played SFII? I want to try out SFIV, because it looks promisingly good. How about SFII? Tracks you noted, especially Shrine, make me feel melancholic. :)
Peeteris Silent yep, i love SFII! I must try SFIV actually! Shrine bring me a lot of melancholy and peace :3
I was just thinking about these tracks. They are something.
Thank you for this!
Track 29, "Sorrow", is not by Kazunori Hasega. It's one of Schubert's most famous (and beautiful) lieder, Ständchen D. 957, no. 4. Here's a recent recording: ruclips.net/video/KN8FRXUBgJ0/видео.html
Ha, and Track 39 is also not by Kazunori Hasega. It's a tune from Bizet's opera Carmen. Here's an excerpted version: ruclips.net/video/EseMHr6VEM0/видео.html
Thank you for more information! :) Can't quite change the info in the video, but we should be aware of this! Kazunori Hasega is being shown as composer of it because he programmed/composed it for Mega Drive/Genesis.
Great music selection.
By the way why these songs don't use PCM?
Thank you!
Not all soundtracks use PCM - it was developers choice. If music developer decided to use PCM, it means that 6th channel can't be used as synth channel. Also in days of making these tracks, it was believed that Genesis can play only one PCM channel, not four as showed here.
38:21 makes me feel uneasy than calm
Oh well, you probably are right. It's a pure example of a song that should make someone feel uneasy, suspicious. It's included because it's mellow and these lists are subjectively made. Not a bad track though, right? :)
Excellent collection! But I can't download an .bin image with it. Site unavailable. Does anyone have a saved image?
Site is up and running again. 💫
Never knew 32X tracks could be played without the Add-on, nice!
(Yes, it's at the expense of losing percussion, but still)
I didn't knew that too, but after I learned that most 32x tracks use Genesis soundchips, I thought - why not try to use 32x VGM files on Genesis VGM (XGM) Player and that worked out!
I would suggest You to check out my second Calm MD/ Gen soundtrack video as in that one I playback PC-98 soundtrack on an original SEGA Genesis.
Same goes for some megacd music like sonic cd,should check to see if snatcher and dune have any
Nice compilation. Have you heard the music from Kolibri on 32X? It would be a nice fit in this playlist.
Thanks, I'll check if Kolibri uses YM2612 mainly or 32x soundchips, because I only make compilations from Mega Drive / Genesis music, compatible music (like Chaotix without some instuments).
Excellent !
Save on my favorite 😚
Great! I would suggest You to check out the 2nd part of this Calm SEGA Gen/MD music. :)
10/10
Aw so sweet! Thank you! 🥰
There are 19 dislikes (atm). Would like to know a reasons for them. Is there something that I could improve? Thanks in advance.

Mr Heck Well, guess what, this is recorded from a real Mega Drive model 1, va 6.5. I literally sat near my mega Drive for 3 hours to record this audio non-stop and before/after every track slided volume knob. What sounds way off to You, if I can ask?
Mr Heck That’s probably because XGM player is not 100% accurate with playing back .VGM Files, but the software is running on and audio is captured from authentic Mega Drive (shown in title screen). There are also other tracks that are not accurate, but they don’t sound bad.
I wouldn't read too much into thumbs down. Some people just like being dicks. and *thumbs* up from me :)
Perhaps it's Mario and Lulgi disliking this piece of amazing music!
Super Hydllide "Fairy Land"
I just made the same comment :)
This is amazing! So do you import VGZ files into xgmrombuilder? Because when I do that it sounds like garbage and I don't wtf I'm doing wrong lol. Or do you convert VGZ to VGM?
Are you trying Sonic VGM's? They'll sound like garbage, because every VGZ recording on the internet is recorded badly. You could try to record new VGM's from these games.
Also some tracks just will not work no matter what (For example Ristar 5-2 level music).
@@RandomInnVGMs Thanks for the reply! I wound up downloading SGDK and it must of had a folder I was missing somewhere. Now it works. And yeah you can tell these have been recorded and/or compressed. Really fun find though!
Don’t get me wrong, I love this music but can we talk about the graphic overlay thing for the music for a sec? I appreciate it.
Hey! You mean the scanline filter or XGM player's design or both? 😄
No ecco the dolphin? Excellent compilation otherwise, but damn, that has the calmest music
Hey! I would suggest to check out my channel, because you'll be able to find Ecco the Dolphin soundtracks in my 1st released video - ruclips.net/video/M4hHID63jHY/видео.html =)
Really no ecco ? There are a few really good ecco 2 tracks that would fit in this awesome collection

can you provide a video teaching how to make this player with Sega genesis hardwer? or a link to download this rom?
Yes, you can download ROM here: random-inn.id.lv/downloads
Why are almost all the tracks incomplete?? Why would you randomply start a track midway and then fade it out before it ends? This is such a great selection, why would you ruin in by playing incomplete tracks???? T_T
No tracks are incomplete.

Landstalker?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I'll upload a new video soon, there will be Landstalker! :)
The theme of Cosmic Carnage is obviously playing too fast. At the time the speed of the music was adjusted for the western release! No need to play at 60hz!
EDIT: lol sorry it was me playing at x1.25 XDDDD
Haha, you got me there. I laughed when read the 'EDIT' part. How come you noticed only Cosmic Carnage if the first track plays at 20 minutes? You want to say that you listened to these first 20 minutes at x1.25 speed and didn't notice anything? 😂
@@RandomInnVGMs I played the first 20 minutes at normal speed and then switched to another RUclips video, which i played at 1:25. I forgot to set the normal speed when I switched back to your video. That was really dumb lol!

Agree!
Too much nostalgia for me, Damn, So hard to listen to some songs, Brings me back to a time where I had less worries and such, I just close my eyes and try to get that feeling again. Love the tracklist
yes, it is. Music brings us back in the time.
Hey brother! In my environment very few people are crazy about old school video game music, so I've been living kinda lonely in that sense - and it's such a pleasure to see people with similar not so popular tastes on the internet. Thank you for the compilation and thank you to people who helped you to compile it :)
It's really beautiful! I wish you all the best! :)
This is sad for you man. My brothers and some pals love retro video games musics. Sometimes we even make some blind tests. I feel lucky on this point.
What is great is that some people make rom albums more frequently now. And on Deflemask's website you can download some content too.
I thought that I had answered to this, but apparently no.
The same situation with me, no one's into retro gaming around me. The best I can do is invite my friends to me for a Streets of Rage playthrough.
Also, are you from Lithuania? (Guessing from name)
@@RandomInnVGMs I love retro games and music.
I feel the same. Actually my friends laugh on me by loving these songs. But when I started showing them some of the Genesis music I hear, they actually liked it too!
This is absolutely beautiful, thank you

I've always wondered where the names of these songs come from. Are they actually named by the author? Is the naming info found inside the rom or is it based on interviews? Is it purely fan-made?
Usually named in the sound tests, ROM data also helps. Rarely they are being made up by the fans.
40:32 i feel like this could easily be remixed into a mainstream billboard top 10 trap beat lol
True, now I can't unhear it as being a mainstream track. Hehe.
well they beat me to it, really butchered it though imo

Great work bro. Keep on doing this work. Don't try to change by asshole billionaires and millionaires out there. Very amazing. We need people like you. ❤️
I wouldn't mind being rich, but being b#tch is not in my plans. Thank you! ❤ Soon I'll make a new upload!
It is a very nice relaxing soundtrack! thanks! The video format is amazing!
Unforgettable music !!! 😭
It really is! 😊
Clotho for life
Yes, it's really good!
Just finished your 4 hour mix. on to this one.
daffy duck options game over = axelay
Is it cool if you post the rom file? (And maybe the others?) I kinda want to play all of this on my console but I don't want to piece together everything.
Of course! You can get all the ROM files here: random-inn.id.lv/downloads
18 may be calm, but it is not relaxing at all!
"calm" 35:05
True, when you take it out of context, it sounds way too upbeat. I guess I liked track too much and allowed it to slip through. It's not easy to go through so many chiptunes and still be objective. 😵💫☺️
@@RandomInnVGMs Haha sorry, I didn't mean for that to be so rude LOL - I appreciate the work you put into this, I listen to it quite a bit
Shame the drums in the Knuckles Chaotix music isn't captured by this .vgm player.. Some emulators don't play them either, and to be honest, the soundtrack isn't quite the same without them!
TheVividYoshi It’s not the VGM player that doesn’t capture drums. This is intended as this compilation contains only Mega Drive / Genesis tracks. What I mean - drums and other small details are made using 32x hardware, but base using Genesis hardware. I though they sound good enough for Genesis to include them.
Alright, I understand. Great compilation, by the way; you've introduced me to soundtracks I didn't even know existed :D
Great List!! the only backward are the lack of drums on 32x tracks, because they are PWM on the DAC of 32x system.
Manuel Ignacio Galafe Herrera Yes, that’s why I chose only those tracks from 32x games that sound good or interesting even without additional 32x hardware.
Tl;dr - that’s intended. :)

DOPE STUFF

XGM Player can play 4 PCM channels on SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive.
@Peeteris Silent
Hey mate any chance you could send me the background pic without the writing (if you have it)?
Want to throw it up on my wall as a canvas!
Cheers
P.S. ♥ Siberias
Hey, where can I send it to you?
I think the drummer on Tetozaru was at the wrong gig.
What's the song playing at 0:00?
Nitrate900 Sonic CD - D.A Garden
That Duxorcist track is so sick
Agree!
No Super Hydelide???
It's there: ruclips.net/video/fFgoByRAoJM/видео.html
Time stamp is wrong for "10. Bram Stoker's Dracula - Options Menu". Minute should be 21, not 20.
Fixed! Thanks for checking timestamps (again). Your help is appreciated. :)
Fairyland from Super Hydlide
Are you able to share the ROM for this? I'd love to try it out on my everdrive. Great compilation!
