2 years after finishing a therapy program I am now listening to this wonderful playlist as a Director of Therapy of an Assisted Living Facility. I love to think this playlist got me through it all. Love coming back to it. :)
I really like Mega Drive soundtracks, I raised with it hearing from the earphones port, sometimes I turned my Mega Drive on without the TV and I could put the game in the sound track blindly just to listem and vibe to it
@@picklepotato666 I mean, graphic-wise, this looks closer to, for example, the original Metroid than Sonic the Hedgehog. But point taken about cigarette equivalence between 8 and 16 bit, I'll keep this in mind.
I've listened to video game music compilations for all consoles for years, but for some reason this one feels like the most beautiful to me right now 🥰
Genesis was the console that I really connected with as a kid. The sound chip of this system just really hits me in the nostalgia. Thank you so much for putting this beautiful compilation together
Man, this is huge. I'm from the 90's , it feels like I'm going back to my childhood playing my Sega Genesis. This is an amazing list. I can't stop listening to it ...
Stumbled upon this playlist, and with it, unlocked a treasure trove of memories of sitting in bed on a saturday morning playing Genesis without a care in the world other than beating the game. That was the only goal for the day.
Very relaxing, takes you back to a simpler time. Less on demand, a slower pace. Time went a bit slower. Listened to this on and off all day. Has been relaxing, to listen with a coffee, or in bed. Great to gather your thoughts too. To plan and reflect. Thanks for uploading this.

Great compilation. That's a great feeling and sad, sorrowful one at the same time, when you know every composition in this one by heart, played all of those games, and had conversations with half of those legendary composers. And it's still not enough. Life is short, hard and then you die. Dude, you even inserted KOEI game, "Aerobiz Supersonic", that's great. KOEI Master here. Anyway, great to see another expert or connoisseiur or whatever, well done. Have a good time (try at least). All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Absurdism wins.
I've listened to this set so many times now. Let me join in the chorus of thank yous. Unlike most mixes of relaxing game music on YT this one isn't just a big boring compilation of tracks from RPGs and popular games. That you are a musician and have discerning taste and wanted to present us with a variety of styles and compositions rings clearly through, does not go unnoticed, and is highly appreciated! The jazzy and samba numbers from the golf and pool games kill me. The gorgeous, rich harmonies of the Landstalker ballad. The slinky Super Hydlide. The groove of Flashback 11. So much good stuff. BGM4 on the first golf game on a 30 some-year-old console is so fucking good I'm super jealous I didn't write it.

When I started making calm, relaxing Sega Genesis music compilations, internet was a diffenret place for sure. I was shocked to see many SNES compilations of mellow music but none of SEGA Genesis/MD. That's why I started my YT channel. Glad to see that things have changed and downbeat, relaxing soundtracks are being recognized by the masses. :) Thank you for your great work, Dustin! _PostScriptum - check description, there might be an error._
I keep coming back to this playlist, it's so good to do game work with this playing in the background. Would love it if you did additional Sega Genesis mixes like this.
As others have pointed out, it's great that this list is so eclectic. Ranges far afield and doesn't just rely on the big named songs that get so heavily recycled. Don't get me wrong, I love some Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and other RPGs but hearing this new (to me) stuff is amazing. Thanks for sharing it!
This is why I love music so much. “I love music because it’s the only thing I know that transfers human emotions in a way that people who live completely different lives can connect.” - Dan Reynolds
Been into Genesis / Megadrive since the console was released (pre-Sonic era) and I’ve always loved MD music. I have a lot myself and some on vinyl but this is an amazing playlist with some deep cuts I’ve never heard. Listen to this all the time thank you so much for making this.
Thank you so very much for this. This makes me feel like a kid again! Always loved the SEGA Genesis growing up, and this is just a beautiful nostalgia bomb in the form of music, and I love it! I’ll openly admit, I haven’t actually played a majority of these games as a kid, but know more about most of them as an adult. Still, nostalgia aside, I always loved the Genesis for it’s sound capabilities, and this compilation is an awesome showcase of that. I play this whenever I want something peaceful, and I fall asleep to this occasionally. It’s so beautiful! I especially respect the Genesis more and more as an adult, because it was able to do things the SNES couldn’t do. The Sinking Old Sanctuary is probably one of my favorite Genesis tracks. It’s atmospheric, even for Genesis standards. The Streets of Rage ending theme speaks for itself, as we all know too well, and that’s because Yuzo Koshiro is a musical genius. Never played Mickey Mania as a kid, but I have looked it up a few times, and I’m constantly blown away by how fluid the animation for that game really is. Every frame of animation has outstanding timing, and the attention to detail is precious, and definitely well done, and still manages to look awesome, even today. The soundtrack is really well done, as well. While none of the tracks from this particular game are on here, I have to point out Garfield: Caught in the Act, which is another game I’ve unfortunately never played, but have done plenty of research on. For example, Jim Davis and PAWS, Inc. were directly involved with the game, and it definitely shows, especially in the animation, much like Mickey Mania. Both of those games have exceptionally well done animation, and look great. I used to play Comix Zone as a kid, but never could beat it. It’s actually amazing that game turned out the way it did, even in 1995. The exact same year, we got an obscure Genesis game made by the exact same team, SEGA Technical Institute, called The Ooze, which is something that never really hit mainstream popularity, but has it’s own fandom, as well as it’s own speedrunning community. Anyway, your music choices are definitely fantastic, especially speaking as someone who has grown to appreciate the Genesis for it’s sound chip more and more over the years. This was fantastic!
Two years on and i still put this on from time to time. I know RUclips now is a minefield of strikes and shit but what i wouldn't give for a second installment of this. Well done.
1:42:26 - I was half asleep in bed, had to get up and write this one down to bookmark later. I'm so happy that Sega released the mini, only had SNES, and the one friend that had Genesis only had Sonic 2 and Toe Jam and Earl. Get to experience what I missed out on, minus the feeling of putting in the cartridge lol.
Yeah, my friend and I rented California Games from the video store and played it all weekend. The hackey sack level was funny. The whole sound track is strange, wonderful, and relaxing.
Make the video fullscreen, stare at the image for a few seconds, then go back to window and make it the tiniest the player allows you to. It's amazing how the pixels dissapear and looks like a real-life photo. Thinking the same thing happens to console is somewhat nostalgic
its been a long time since i have arrived til the end of a game. It is usual nowdays in the games to have such nice ending music? These songs are like the perfect end of a big adventure. Good old days.
What a perfect compilation! And ending it with the ending theme from Ristar was just the icing on the beautiful cake. That song has brought me to tears on more than one occasion, as to me, it represents not only what made the Genesis and that era of gaming in general so great, but as an extension, it also represents the end of that era, which we will never truly be able to go back to. Thank you for making these songs as well as what made this console so unique and special so widely available, and recorded in the top quality possible, from real hardware! :)
Another great compilation, I always thought the genesis lacked relaxing music but it appears I was wrong. After listening to all of your great real hardware recordings I can't go back to emulated recordings. My friend and I have even recorded some music from a couple of obscure genesis games on our model 1s so that there are good quality recordings of them out there. What i'd like to say is that I don't think my Sega Genesis music experience would be the same without your videos Dustin.
So many flashbacks...I surprise myself how many damn games i played, and finished 90% of them..,its a 'law' right? Y's III song is so beautyful i can't contain it
You know, this is just so friggin nice. If I went to a massage parlour and asked for a "good ending", and they did anything other than play these tunes, I'd be asking for a refund.
This is an awesome mix, I'd love to hear more like it. I think the Genesis is best known for it's more bombastic sounds; energetic metal and electronic scores that are more uptempo. It's really enjoyable to hear a different aspect of the Genesis sound palette showcased here. The track selection is awesome too, there are a lot of lesser-known games featured.
