I am a little disappointed Dr. Mike did not mention quality sleep as a core pillar of health. To quote you and Will Tennyson: "If people at home could take something away from you, what would have the most impact?" "Sleep."
It would have been hilarious if, after the ad, when he says "Someone asked me what I did to get a bigger back, and I replied.." and then have it jump back to ad "THE RP HYPERTROPHY APP" then just cut right back to the video
I was told by a doctor when I asked him the best thing I can do do to extend my life as I enter my 70's was "Don't fall". So my training revolves around isometrics, walking, and ballance. People I know that fall and break something are dead in 2 years or less. I work to not let the old man in.
This guy seems like a bit of a goofball, but I respect the fact that he's documenting his whole process and putting all his information out there publicly for people to study.
I swear the lies they told in school about science is really making people stupider, the data can not be considered verifiable or even usable since the subject is the one recording it and they’re the one manipulating the data, that’s 2 strikes and either is enough for a disqualification for considering an actual scientific paper, but that seems to be a problem with most of “science” today , sheep mindlessly believe what the people who conducted the study say without any peer review
Yup, people make fun of him but I like that he's just throwing money at this goal of his and sharing all the data and info he has with us. He's a sample size of 1 but if more people try it then the sample size grows much bigger and we might actually gain some valuable insight.
@@elintilia2790 You'll most likely remain at a sample size of one because of all the expenses involved. This is similar to the experimental anti-depressant chip which was implanted in the brain of a select number of people. It's estimated the whole process would cost around 20 million dollars if a person wanted to do it.
@@JamesSefton well you do not have to make it sound that creepy. What you forget to mention is that the blood transfusion you're referring to was completely transparent and consented by all parties involved
One thing he promotes a lot that wasn't covered here (and what Bryan considers to the be the most important thing to longevity), is quality sleep. He has said in many different videos that's more important than anything else. His top 3 things are Sleep, Diet, and Exercise. Those things alone will probably get you into your late 80's.
@@luxurybuzz3681 5 hours consistently over long periods will have your test levels sitting at that of a 60 year old. So yeah I’d say pretty bad 4.5 hours is minimum for healthy brain function. 6-7.5 for hormonal and immune function, and at least 7.5 for muscle growth, 9 for CNS overload recovery. 7.5 should be the minimum for the average person, but not more than 9 if you don't exercise intensely enough, or if you don't participate in mentally difficult things that induce heavy stress.
Just a correction, Andrew Huberman never advices people to look directly at the sun. He actually advices against this, but he advices people to look at the blue sky which just adjusts the eye to the light.
You kind of fell for his act. He's basically arguing he's doing a single N study. However, it's not helpful nor does it contribute to science. There are three problems with this argument: 1) Nothing he's doing will get us any closer to actually solving aging. Nothing he's doing is remotely economical or practical. He's spending incredible amounts of money and time doing this. It costs him $2 million a year and if you watch his videos he spends the vast majority of his day doing this stuff. He can do it because he's wealthy and a business owner. It's not something anyone, but the elite could do. I personally do not think it's that much of a societal contribution to make wealthy people live longer (they already have way higher than average life expectancies). Very little of what he does could be helpful to the average person or rolled out on a mass scale. By his own admission, the most expensive and time consuming things are the things that seem to him to make a larger impact on his biomarkers. 2) It's a single N study. We don't know if his "results" work beyond him. His protocols are far too expensive and difficult to study with even modest sample sizes. To get adequate power you need to spend at least $60 million to follow participants for a year just for the protocols. Nevermind the other costs of research. We basically only know what happened to him. That's not helpful to anyone else. 3) He's doing way way too much for us to draw any conclusions. If he's a walking single N study then he's also a Gordian Knot of confounding variables. We have zero idea what is doing what and we can probably never know. He's not even waiting to do things bit by bit. He's just throwing everything he can at his body hoping it will make him younger. He's had some success but we have no way of knowing what worked and what was a waste of time and money. That's not good science if you could even call it science at all. The truth is that he just wants to live longer and he's probably just having a very pronounced midlife crisis (which is actually not a typical phenomenon by the way) with a side of Momento Mori. He just wants to live longer and be young. He doesn't care about the science of what works or anything. He cares that it works. I think he also just kind of wants to be famous and well-liked. He clearly spends a lot of time online and he's tried to get in the news as much as possible. If he just cared about science then he could do that quietly. The problem is that a rich person spending ungodly amounts of money trying to find the fountain of youth isn't going to be well received. So he came up with the "I'm doing it for science" explanation so he doesn't just look like a man abusing his privilege and trying to get around something every other human just has to deal with. That sells better. I'm not buying it. He should stop getting praise for doing something so self centered.
@@MrThatGuyYouForgot You're not smart. His blueprint doesn't cost 2 million and isn't something you need 24/7 for. You everr heard of the quick wins saying? Or the 80% of the results with 20% of the efforts? No? I thought that.

I once heard Brian say something like if he ate a cheeseburger, it would destroy his sleep, mood and really whole week. And I feel like having this type of intense anxiety over every single aspect of your health may counteract all of the “benefits”
He's obviously autistic. What he's doing narrows his world, which keeps him safe. He can't give to people easily and physically, but he can give information to people in the hope that he can help them. Anything that jeopardises that is painful to him. I'm not autistic, but that's my read on him.
I generally agree with that but I have to say that I really had noticeable effects from fast food on my body after keeping distance from it for some years. I ate at mcdonalds and after that my whole body heated up and I felt like fainting every moment for an hour or so. Since eating there at least every few months now I didn't experience that again

Small correction because it‘s thrown around so much: Andrew Huberman does not promote looking at the sun directly in any way. He is saying that it‘s good and important to get direct sunlight exposure on your retina, e.g so not behind your window, especially during the sunrise and sunset cause of the angle. You don‘t have to look at the sun at all and of course blink as needed. That is what he is saying.
And Andrew Huberman also makes that clarification every time, we don't need to look directly at the sun. It's hard to get it wrong if you watch the clip, it only takes a few minutes to look it up and watch it, this guy seems to be intelligent so he may do it on purpose to annoy Andrew Huberman watchers since Andrew Huberman is the mainstream, and certain people always have a problem with the mainstream things
On the topic of sunlight, aging and cancer. A study from Sweden showed that people that had a sun seeking behavior had a lower ACM. And the people that avoided sun exposure had the worst acm. So there is something thats not quite right with the recommendations to stay out of it and that sunlight is inherently harmful..
@@davorzdralo8000 Agreed. But it’s more the source of life then it is death. That’s why i believe the recommendations to avoid sunlight is backwards. But spending time in sunlight could be compared to lifting weights or any type of exercising. You don’t go full send right from the start. But if you’re in it for quite some time you’re probably going to end up with a better outcome..
@@cwr8618 yes. But nature is always outside in the sunlight. And from personal experience living closer to the arctic circle, nature is less cheerful during those looooong dark winter months.
@@kristoferolsson89 I agree, and ffs just put on some sunscreen to protect your skin from uv and you're golden. You get all the benefits of being in nature, not just in sun, and basically none of the downsides.
Exactly. He seems like a really chill guy who needlessly gets a lot of hate. I really respect the work he's doing and so what if this is his hobby? As far as billionaire hobbies go - this is far and away the most harmless. At least he's not exploiting workers, jetting around in a private jet or yacht or going to Epstein island type places. Who cares if he wants to be in the best possible shape?
Context is important. Seed oils (unsaturated fats really) are healthy when NOT heated, yes. But you shouldn't cook with them. You can use these in a salad. Or maybe to cook an egg on medium heat, but don't expose them to high heat because they are chemically unstable and WILL degrade with heat. Also most seed oils are extracted with petrochemicals and can have residue and obviously that can be a tremendous health hazard. The healthiest oils are still natural fats like lard, or things like butter, ghee, olive oil, coconut oil. There is simply no way around that.
@@henrymudd5235 I have literally a bottle of flaxseed oil in my kitchen with the label "kaltgepresst, mechanische extraktion" which translates to "cold pressed, extracted mechanically". I don't know if that's a thing in America, but in germany it is.
Like when everybody said, "oh look how old the Queen got" .. sure never worked a hard day in her life, no stress, no struggle. Sure you get 100 years old.
Do you sleep everyday at the same time and wake up at the same time, even during your days off? Do you sleep at least 8h a night? It's really easy to wake up naturally if you follow basic sleeping habits, but most people don't.
The fact he's taking such an enormous shotgun intervention approach to longevity it's near impossible to dissect whether anything specific is helpful. Excellent point. We've all seen people who age ridiculously well who aren't spending millions on testing, measurements, & expensive protocols. Lots fewer variables to study what is working with those people.
wish people spent more time on building, helping, and analyzing vs focusing on the negative. Bryan Johnson and others like him can serve a great purpose in learning and the quest for human development.
To do what exactly though it's not repeatable... I mean if he's going to do it this way then let's talk and take some big risk reward scenarios. Like hey you might go through some incredible pain but we might actually be able to reprogram a significant portion of something notably viable. But you might also get cancer and die such is the risk reward if you want to push boundaries.
A good way to think about resistance training from a longevity standpoint is that relative strength is more important than absolute strength. Being super strong relative to your bodyweight at a BMI of 24 is much better than having more absolute strength but at a BMI of 28.
The best part is Brian has a great sense of humor and doesn't take himself seriously at all he would actually be a good person to have a collaboration with

Andrew Huberman has never told anyone to stare directly into the sun. In fact, he asks that you do not do that. The importance is the solar angle in the morning. Your eye has neurons that detect when the sun is at a low angle (dawn and sunset). It’s this low angle that triggers the regulation of your circadian rhythm. Therefore, a UV light is probably an ineffective and high cost replacement for the sun. Anyways love your content, Dr. Mike.
You mention that we should avoid processed food, but at the same time you claim that seed oils are good. Strange, because seed oils are extremely processed and high in omega 6. The ratio is 1-20 between omega 3 and 6. Inflammation in the body is partly due to the imbalance between omega 3 and 6. Avoid fats with high omega 6 values. Butter, tallow, lard and fruit oils such as coconut and olive oil are good. But kernel oils should be avoided!

@Joost-qo9im well, considering I was 6' and roughly 135-140lbs at 5-7% body fat and now I'm 175-185ish lbs at 12-14% body fat on average I'd say I'm doing a lot better than before. Without getting into the nitty gritty, thanks to my mom I was a fully trained borderline anorexic for most my adolescent life and had to spend 8ish years figuring out how to be healthy by myself. So when I say skinny fuck, I mean holy fuck that dude (me) is WAY to skinny. So I'd say I'm in a pretty healthy place in comparison.
Thanks Mike! Always a good laugh. Question: you often say seed oils are not bad, but do not address why others say they are bad and I was wondering, would you please expound one day for us? Cons: 1.Inflammation: High intake of omega-6 fatty acids relative to omega-3 fatty acids can promote inflammation in the body. Modern diets often have a skewed omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. 2.Oxidative Stress: PUFAs are prone to oxidation, which can lead to the formation of harmful compounds when the oils are exposed to heat, light, or air. 3.Processing: Many seed oils undergo extensive processing, including refining, bleaching, and deodorizing, which can strip away beneficial nutrients and introduce harmful chemicals. 4.Trans Fats: Some processed seed oils may contain small amounts of trans fats, which are harmful to heart health. Thanks for your time, whether or not you do see/acknowledge this.

A lot of what he does is actually based on studies of large groups of people. I don't think he does that great a job of explaining his shit tho, his videos are often "I do this, it works for me, here's how you can do it' he's not a science communicator, just a rich guy who does some research in conjunction with paying his 20 doctors to come up with shit for him to do.

Even if advanced age reversal medicine is on the horizon you better believe it's not gonna be accessible to the masses. The only way it ever becomes readily available and affordable for the working class is if retirement age gets doubled first.

I respect this guy cause I’ve never seen him say that you have to do it but he’s using himself as science research.
For real, that is pretty commendable.

I honestly believe that, ever since I started working more outside my eyes seem to be way stronger, and I’m a diabetic so they already disadvantaged
Yes, THANK YOU. That had me irked
Natural sunlight exposure, i.e. being outside, is fundamental to our existence.
How disconnected are we that this needs to be pointed out.
how does being behind a window change the effects of sunlight?
On the topic of sunlight, aging and cancer. A study from Sweden showed that people that had a sun seeking behavior had a lower ACM. And the people that avoided sun exposure had the worst acm. So there is something thats not quite right with the recommendations to stay out of it and that sunlight is inherently harmful..
Sunlight IS inherently harmful, and it is also necessary to stay alive. A lot of things are like that, so you need to find a balance.
Agreed. It’s not just sunlight - but where is sunlight??? It’s outside. What else is outside? A ton of other healthy things like work, nature, etc.

We're still not anywhere near an actual GAI, what we do have, is language models that are very good at giving the illusion that they're actually intelligent.

☝️
Nonsense. Horseshit

At 57, I've been keto for 4 years, carnivore 15 months, high coconut oil consumption for many years before, CT coronary artery calcium score of zero. I'm going to keep avoiding seed oils 🙏🏻
I’ve been waiting for this critique 😅
In the end its just like Master Roshi says: "Eat well, train well, sleep well". That probably does 80% of the work for longevity, health and fitness
Thank you very much for this review. Excellent content delivery. You are the best!
That voice over was levels above legendary
I'm very disappointed you didn't go over his workout routine. I have a lot of respect for both of you guys and what you two do, I wish you spent a little more time talking about his fitness routine and how he might be able to improve it. Bryan is mostly the face of his company and doesn't have the time to understand all the science his team is putting into making his protocol. Making fun of him for looking like a vampire is funny, he leans into it all the time, but it felt like you were doing a lot more jokes this video isn't of actually providing insight into the protocol.
Is this true for the extended cut of this video?
🙋🏼♀️ I’ve got a question!
I’m 49, and I know that I need to be lifting. And lifting heavy. I was a runner up until my early 40’s. I’ve not been doing much lately. Will your app help me do safe heavy lifting?
Ohhhh I’ve been waiting for this
How is no one talking about what he said at 14:00 if this turns out to be true it would change humanity forever. How is this just a side topic if true?
I believe prof. David Sinclair is going to run first human age reversal trails this year and has said his "longevity pill" (probably won't be a pill but a series of therapies) will be available to the public within the next 10 years
Everyone knows that in next 20 years humanity will cure terrible diseases by advanced gene editing, right now we can cure few uncurable diseases by gene editing like CRISPR
Well, im 29 today and started really taking care of myself two years ago and have always been a skinny fuck up to that 2 year point. I guess im going to live to 100. Awesome.
Well, being skinny is actually best for longevity, so maybe you're shortening it
@Joost-qo9im well, considering I was 6' and roughly 135-140lbs at 5-7% body fat and now I'm 175-185ish lbs at 12-14% body fat on average I'd say I'm doing a lot better than before.
Cons:
1.Inflammation: High intake of omega-6 fatty acids relative to omega-3 fatty acids can promote inflammation in the body.
I saw a dream where I was showing my mom a Dr. Mike video. Dr. Mike was training with a woman who I assume was a coach, and Dr. Mike was also gonna train chest. Immediately after I asked my mom to watch, Dr. Mike says the following: "I'm gonna do a set here now; Manipulate me. Manipulate my technique to stimulate my chest maximally. ...So there's a gag ball right there, and-" And I laughed so hard and my mom clearly judged me.

Bryan is very open minded, nearly everyone can follow his protocols and he’s rly trying to help ppl. He’s also rly rly disciplined and rly follows everything everyday
Also their is a female patient, his son as well that follow the protocols and get measured
LoL his nonsense cost literally millions to implement. This is a business he's running, not a charity.
"Minimally processed" but then says seed oils are ok. I work with over 300 people and maybe 10 coworkers exercise. I'm the only woman that I know of that lifts weights. Three guys I work with lift. The others are treadmill junkies. Just this past year three coworkers have had parents fall and end up in the hospital. I tell everyone how important strength training and eating well are, especially as we age, but it falls on deaf ears.
Show the science that says olive oil is bad for your longevity or health. I'm gonna bet you can't find it.
@@kj_H65f Olive oil is not made of seeds.
@@kj_H65fseed oil = rapeseed oil, cottonseed oil, sunflower seed oil etc.
@@kj_H65f Olive oil isn't a seed oil bro lmao. I think seed oils can be ok if used minimally and only if they are cold pressed. However olive oil seems to be the clear winner in terms of healthiest oil in existence.

This video is GOLD. Awesome sharing by Dr Mike!
I could never live like Bryan, hardly anyone can. But there’s still so much to learn from him and the things he experiments with. Dr Mike’s right that it’s such a tiny sample size but maybe it pushes the science forward somewhat and encourages proper studies testing even a tiny portion of his findings, that we wouldn’t have otherwise had. I think that’s pretty cool
There's nothing to learn from him. He's just a mentally ill man afraid of aging & death. Only thing to learn is he's a good scammer.
He looks artificially young. Also, he is almost always in perfect lighting and looks like he wears make-up for some reason. I'm turning 36 soon and still look like I'm in my early 20s...
His face has been clipped.
cope
he doesn't look young at all, he looks like he is in his 50s
@@houseofactionI thought that he was my age (50s) but he's still in his 40s. He looks worn out.
Bryan's program began with a sample size of one, but there are now thousands of people following his protocol. Let's see where this takes us.
He does try to sugest lower cost equivalents at times and for sure he has his heart in the right place... Is is pretty funny with very dry sense of humor! Glad you covered him! Great work and entertaining too!
New to your channel and couldn't feel more trapped, thanks for the hospitality!
Even if advanced age reversal medicine is on the horizon you better believe it's not gonna be accessible to the masses. The only way it ever becomes readily available and affordable for the working class is if retirement age gets doubled first.
Like vaccines and antibiotics right. They're only available to the wealthy aren't they.
Sit down.
Even if your right. Maybe get a bit ambitious and make some real money
Brilliant comment!
Indeed. Ultimately, this guy is a transhumanist. Do you think Joe Blow will become an immortal machine man? No.
But death will never be overcome without death! Death is necessary. Without death, things like valor, bravery, honor, etc. become meaningless. This longevity is a form of cowardice ultimately.
Advanced age reversal medicine already exists and its not very expensive at all. Everyone is just oblivious and only cares about making money and being involved with some hobby that generally doesn't benefit their health.
