Your memory is better than mine I'm 63 and my memory in the '70s and the '80s is a little fuzzy at some concerts that I've been to... Or haven't been to lol
The lead guitarist Terry Kath was also the lead singer on some of their biggest hits. Including "I'm a Man" (Chicago Transit Authority), "Colour My World", "Make Me Smile" and (Chicago V), "Wishing You Were Here"
Jimi Hendrix was interviewed shortly before his death in September 1970, and was asked who he considered to best the best guitarist in the world at that time and he named Terry Kath from the band Chicago. He also named Billy Gibbons from the band ZZ Top as one of his favorite guitarist and Bob Dylan as his favorite song writer of all time.
Omg...This is one of the best guitar solo's ever. Terry Keith was an incredible guitarist..All of their voices are amazing. Just incredible raw talent that we are sure missing in our current music!! Saw them at an outdoor concert a year and a half ago at Thunder Valley Casino Amphitheatre...It was fantastic on a beautiful summer night...............Oh how I miss the 70's talent and truly believe we grew up on the best times as a teenager/20 year old! Thanks for playing this live performance!!
Second the motion for "I'm a Man" ...A Stevie Winwood song. Go with the studio first....thats what hit us from the debut CTA album. Love the energy fellas!
9/4/1970 Labor Day weekend (a little over a month later); Chicago was at Steel Pier and this was the last day, last show at 7;00. Had to work as a beach lifeguard that day until 6;00 (no early outs on THAT job). At 6;01 I RAN to my car and drove to Atlantic City. Parked and RAN to the pier and paid my admission. Then I RAN to the end of a very long pier and made it into the Golden Dome Ballroom just in time to see them walk on stage and I'm still wearing my air dried, and very salty, lifeguard shorts. They were doing 3 sixty minute shows a day and this was the last one on the last day and what a set. "Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon" (all of it), "25 or 6 to 4", and wrapped it up with a killer cover of "I'm A Man". The set lasted well over an hour but nobody was complaining. Everybody got solos, even the horns, and it was worth every bit of the suffering with the wicked rash that followed from all the running in salty lifeguard shorts.
Thank you for reacting to this. In this case of 25 or 6 to 4 it's good to experience both the live and the studio version. Tanglewood concert has more great footage for example "Make Me Smile".Much love
TERRY KATH! The greatest guitar player you’ve never heard of! One of my all time favourites! (You won’t believe how he died! Russian roulette! Bullet to the brain at 31 yrs old!)
Bassist/vocalist Peter Cetera had been mugged outside Dodger Stadium a few days before this, and gotten his jaw broken. He sang this with his jaw wired.
Ty for this. Always wondered why he always looked constrained in this video. Makes total sense now. Dodger stadium, that figures. A lot of people have been seriously injured at that place.
Fenom, I feel your pain. As a viewer, I get frustrated when people say you HAVE to do the studio first cuz that's how we experienced it. The reality is, most reactors will only do a song once. Most times, the live will be better, imo. But there are some instances where the studio version is sooo good, that's the place to go. You guys listened to your viewers, which is not always the case - so shout out to guys!! Usually, money talks, so reactors will only do what people pay them to do. So, thank you for listening to us little people - many of whom are on fixed incomes and don't have a dime to spare. God bless, and Merry Christmas to you all.
Love to you & Chicago!!! Appreciate all you do. Found you through your old Stevie Ray Vaughan Texas Flood vid (now if that wasn't a mic drop performance)...Don't forget Clarence Clemons on the sax...Jungleland live is the --it! Merry Christmas & Happy New Years to you and all...Cheers!
My folks brought the debut album home and it's the only album my 13 year old brother and I listened together with them. We were floored. The tracks let us know there was more magic to come, like this performance. Beasts all, especially Terry Kath!
Absolutely love Chicago. Great reaction. Interestingly enough up here north of the 49th. we had a band which we called Canada's Chicago. They were called Lighthouse. They had a big band rock sound and a great vibe. Songs to check out if you're so inclined. One Fine Morning, Pretty Lady and Summer Days. A great time to be a music fan. All the best.
im 55 years oldnd have only heard the studio version since i was in gade school.im glad you posted this because i have never heard them live. i didn't realize at the time what a group of highly skilled musicians they really were i loved this, now i have to go back and take a closer look at Chicago. that was bad ass thanks to you ! all those years, damn.
In 1982 when I was 12 years old my cousin and I saw Chicago live on the campus of Louisiana Tech University. I paid $8 to see them! Unbelievable show! Chicago’s early days were the best in my opinion. They were so talented. I never cared for their newer music once they became popular on top 40 radio in the 80’s. They sounded like a ton of other top 40 sappy bands that all sounded alike. Love this video performance. Sadly I saw them without Terry Kath. He had died about four years before I saw them but they still put on a fantastic show!
1971, 7th gr - my wood/metal shop teacher often "played this album loudly on his stereo turntable! It was cool to be in shop class for girls, even surprised me. 1st every heard Chicago!
Terry Kath, at the end it sounds like Peter Cetera says Take Care, but he actually said Terry Kath so everybody would know who it was. I got to see them twice while Terry was alive and most recently in 2016 when they toured with Earth, Wind & Fire. The original members still there in 2016 was keyboardist/singer Robert Lamm and the tromebonist.
And ya'll remember Peter Cetera the Bass player here, went on to an awesome solo career under David Foster. This guy can sing!!!! Thanks for sharing this gem with us. Cheers from Motown.
Terry was an amazing guitar player. When asked who he thought was the best guitar player, Jimi Hendrix said Terry Kath. This was when Chicago was CHICAGO and then they became chicago singing bubble gum love songs.
Corey, you just became my favorite reactor of all time. Not only are you so hyped about my favorite performance of my favorite Chicago song, but then you drop some semi deep-cut knowledge of Jem and the Holograms. You stun me, sir, and I'm a fan forever now.
Terry Kath is the single most underrated guitar player of all time. As far as the trombone player goes, James Pankow is pretty short and he makes that trombone much look much larger. He also takes the prize for the musician with the greatest stage presence that I have ever witnessed. He is the same today as he was back in 1970. An absolute showman who totally "gets it!"
Earth Wind and Fire always have a horn section. My favorite concert was when I saw EW&F open for Chicago. They did a few songs together and it was amazing.
Hey Olli, not your bag! I get that. They are good live though. I lucked out, i w a s blessed to be there. The whole show was awesome! Outdoor venue, we were on the grass, in more ways than one
Being familiar with the studio version (or the version that was originally made famous) first is always the correct choice and helps appreciation of the live version.
Kath was a genius. Here, he says “to hell with it-you guys keep fu*kin’ with the drum set, I’m playing!” What a loss. The band was a mere shadow after he died. The first to LPs are masterpieces. I urge you to listen them both in their entirety. Again, genius.
Terry Kath was an amazing musician and guitarist. He was also an avid gun enthusiast and owner, who died way too early at only 31 years old. One night he was playing around with an unloaded 38 revolver at a roadie's house and put it to his head at one point, pulling the trigger. His friend warned him to be careful several times. Kath then picked up a 9mm semi-automatic pistol with no clip in it, telling his friend not to worry and showing him the empty magazine before inserting it. He repeated what he had done with the 38, unfortunately not realizing that there was actually a round in the chamber. He died instantly.
The studio version is good to give an idea of what the track is about, then check out the live version (if one’s available); that can give a better sense of what the singer or group is about and perhaps foster a greater appreciation of the track overall.
The lead singer Peter Cetera had recovered from a broken jaw after he was badly beaten at a Dodgers game and thats why he sang the song this way. One of the greatest live performances youll find.
A lot of these guys were childhood friends from Edison Park and Jefferson Park in Chicago. Super nice guys. Blue collar folk. Friends with my cousin. Always put him on this list. Terry Kath plays like no one else.
Y’all need to watch Leonid and friends do this song, they’re a tribute band from Ukraine & Russia, they crush this song, please check it out brothers 🙏🏻
He could play that guitar, Terry Kath. RIP with the other greats, we're still rockin out to you. ✌🏽 He also lead vocals on a few pop hits and Peter Cetera, on lead vocals, went on to have a successful solo career. Lyrics are about struggling to write a song, it 25 or 26 min to 4am. Clever! 😂 Chicago and their brass! 😁

One of THE greatest live guitar solos of all-time. What a talent Terry was.
Wow😂❤
Check out the whole concert😊
soooooooo dam good
Terry Kath, the guitarist who Jimi Hendrix was in awe of.
Which is why he brought them on tour.
The music style changed after he passed... got a bit "softer".
@@trudydavidson528 A bit? A whole lot softer!
Makes sense
Sadly a member of the "No, really, the gun is always loaded" club.
Gone too soon.
I was lucky enough to see them with Terry Kath in 1974. Amazing show. Cheers and Merry Christmas.
Your memory is better than mine I'm 63 and my memory in the '70s and the '80s is a little fuzzy at some concerts that I've been to... Or haven't been to lol
The lead guitarist Terry Kath was also the lead singer on some of their biggest hits. Including "I'm a Man" (Chicago Transit Authority), "Colour My World", "Make Me Smile" and (Chicago V), "Wishing You Were Here"
“Mom, I’m gonna grow up and be in a rock band.”
“Baby, you play the trombone. Rock bands don’t have trombones in them.” 🎄🎅🏻🌟
LOL!
I've always been amazed by the sound that Danny Seraphine can get out of the little drum set
John Densmore of The Doors is the same. Super skinny guy too!
One of my favorite drummers ever!!!!
Awesome drummers.dont necessarily need huge kits
RIP Terry Kath. This is one of those songs that deserves listening to both the studio and live performances.
Tanglewood is the best version
Jimi Hendrix was interviewed shortly before his death in September 1970, and was asked who he considered to best the best guitarist in the world at that time and he named Terry Kath from the band Chicago. He also named Billy Gibbons from the band ZZ Top as one of his favorite guitarist and Bob Dylan as his favorite song writer of all time.
Jimi actually was in a BBC interview and said he thought Rory Gallagher was the best.
One of the greatest guitar solos of all time!
You guys are great, dont interrupt genius at work 😊
Kath was a force of nature. He manhandled that guitar
I think that guitar had to lay down for a smoke after that thrashing, lol
You guys are doing fine. Try not to let peoples complaints frustrate you. Thanks, for your videos.
Omg...This is one of the best guitar solo's ever. Terry Keith was an incredible guitarist..All of their voices are amazing. Just incredible raw talent that we are sure missing in our current music!! One of my faves by Chicago. Have a listen to "Saturday in the Park" and "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?". A couple of beauties.
Both sung by Robert Lamm (keyboards)
the late great Terry Kath ! thanks , the music was a part of our lives ..
Thank you for reacting to this. In this case of 25 or 6 to 4 it's good to experience both the live and the studio version. Tanglewood concert has more great footage for example "Make Me Smile".Much love
Now that's a Christmas present! Merry Christmas Y'all 🎄
Horn section. Need say no more.
And you get it, old man.
This is one of the rare times when the live versions is better than the studio version.
Depends on the artist! Some artists are ALWAYS better live! John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes to name a couple! Check them out! You might be AMAZED!!!!
It is tough sometimes as far as studio vs. live versions. Terry Kath was a beast, RIP.
Blew his brains out with foolish gun play at 28.what a waste 😢
I saw them play this in East Lansing, MI in 1972!! What a show!!!
They looked like they loved playing together. Especially the Trombone player.
TERRY KATH! The greatest guitar player you’ve never heard of!
One of my all time favourites! (You won’t believe how he died! Russian roulette! Bullet to the brain at 31 yrs old!)
Not Russian Roullet he was showing off and didn't check the chamber. pointed at his head to prove it was empty and.... end of story.
Bro this is Next Level musicianship intersects undeniable brilliance .
Never anything but Timeless .
LOL Watching Corey do everything but grab some popcorn! So glad you enjoyed this!
That guitar solo is how babies are made.
Bassist/vocalist Peter Cetera had been mugged outside Dodger Stadium a few days before this, and gotten his jaw broken. He sang this with his jaw wired.
His jaw was broken in May 69 and was wired for a few months. I believe this performance was July 1970.
Also, he wasn't mugged outside of Dodger Stadium, he (a cubs fan) was punched by a group of Marines (Dodger fans).
Ty for this. Always wondered why he always looked constrained in this video. Makes total sense now. Dodger stadium, that figures. A lot of people have been seriously injured at that place.
@@Donna185 His mouth was wired while recording the song not the show.

This Is It needs to react to Chicago I'm a Man. Studio or live will do. Danny Seraphine was one of the best drummers in RnR in the 70's.
@2cawwa2 Speaking as a 3rd person singular entity. e.g. Israel needs to make peace soon.
im 55 years oldnd have only heard the studio version since i was in gade school.im glad you posted this because i have never heard them live. i didn't realize at the time what a group of highly skilled musicians they really were i loved this, now i have to go back and take a closer look at Chicago. that was bad ass thanks to you ! all those years, damn.

You need to look up the life of the lead guitarist Terry Kath. His death was so senseless and gone way too soon 😢
Terry was a Rock and Roll God.
Merry Christmas to all of you. Even the happy dude In the bottom box.
At least he didn’t fall asleep 😴
@@ScottfurAre you sure???
Blahahahaha
Terry Kath an all time legend, I saw Chicago in July with earth wind and fire the concert was insane such great musicians
I saw them in Sept in Nj. This is my favorite song of theirs.
Terry Kath, at the end it sounds like Peter Cetera says Take Care, but he actually said Terry Kath so everybody would know who it was. Actually it's Robert Lamm (keyboards) doing the call out. James Pankow plays trombone.
And ya'll remember Peter Cetera the Bass player here, went on to an awesome solo career under David Foster. This guy can sing!!!! Thanks for sharing this gem with us. Cheers from Motown.
Saw them TWICE last year. Still have 3 original members: keyboard, trumpet and trombone. STILL put on a great show.
Terry was an amazing guitar player. When asked who he thought was the best guitar player, Jimi Hendrix said Terry Kath. This was when Chicago was CHICAGO and then they became chicago singing bubble gum love songs.

1.Bass player as lead singer. Thank you, Beatles.
2. Best guitar solo ever.

One of the top live guitar solos of all time.
Earth Wind and Fire always have a horn section. My favorite concert was when I saw EW&F open for Chicago. They did a few songs together and it was amazing.
There are those who say this is the greatest guitar solo ever. This video never gets old
The best thing is to do live whenever possible. Groups back then were great live or studio versions.
One of my top 10 songs, thanks
Hey Olli, not your bag! I get that. They are good live though. I lucked out, i w a s blessed to be there. The whole show was awesome! Outdoor venue, we were on the grass, in more ways than one

I saw Chicago live in '76. Great!
Check out more Chicago.

The Tower Of Power is a horn funk band that has played with many rock artists and more.
Great reaction. 1975 Anaheim Stadium CA Chicago and Beach Boys. Great Concert!
You dont need to worry about the studio version. This live version is by far the best version ever recorded
The lead singer Peter Cetera had recovered from a broken jaw after he was badly beaten at a Dodgers game and thats why he sang the song this way. One of the greatest live performances youll find.
Cetera had to record the vocal while his jaw was still wired together after he had been attacked at a baseball game at Dodger Stadium on May 20, 1969.
When asked “who is the greatest guitarist you’ve ever heard?” Jimi Hendrix without hesitation responded, Terry Kath from Chicago!!!”🎸🎸🎸
Epic lineup! Kath was awesome!
A lot of these guys were childhood friends from Edison Park and Jefferson Park in Chicago. Super nice guys. Blue collar folk. Friends with my cousin. Always put him on this list.

Roller skating to this in the 80's
Blessed to see them 2 x about 40 years apart! The were on tour with Earth Wind and Fire
What a night of MUSIC and singing
Terry Kath, guitar.
Blood Sweat and Tears had a big sax section along with Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes.
RIP Terry, taken way too soon from us. The original headbanger, he was the BEST.
Usually I like studio versions better but this was just as good.
Right on Olli, live is where it's at. The energy!
