As much as she deserves punishment, I am pretty sure that as a Reservist ( not full time active duty ) the military has no authority to act on this as it did not occur on a government facility. I may well be wrong. I retired from the Marines 30 years ago, so I may have my wires a bit crossed.

A state senator/lawyer knows how to legally obtain these items, but instead she chose to break the law. She should resign from office and be punished like any other criminal.
The issue is she likely had no legal grounds to stand on. Unless these items where specified in the will which I doubt, it would go to the late wife. The only thing I sort of give her a pass on is the fact this was her family home. Idk I’d do the same thing if my mothers late husband suddenly turned into a prick after she died and wouldn’t even allow me to have her ashes.

I live in MN. I empathize with her for the family issues. We've all had family issues. But she needs to be held accountable for her actions. There are other ways of handling things. She needs to be removed from office at the absolute minimum.
These aren't family issues. When my Dad died, my oldest sister started walking through the house pointing at items saying she was taking them. My Mom still lived in the house and had her own business she ran from it. Needless to say she took nothing from the house.
