Here in Czechia the events of Nagano 1998 have been elevated to an absolutely mythical status. It is safe to say that before the Winter Olympics 99.999% of our population have never even heard of the city. But since the tournament, you just say "Nagano" and EVERYONE knows. It has been a benchmark of a triumphant success ever since.
It was the last Winter Olympics of the second millenium. The coveted "Tournament of the Millenium" as many called it. The first Winter Olympics where NHL players participated en masse. Thus every hockey nation could and would send their best. There could be no excuses, every nation showed their real mettle. And the Czech Team went through Americans, Canadians and russians. So no easy "weaseling in" through "easy opponents" either. Many from the the Nagano Team also participated in the "golden hattrick" of World Ice Hockey Championship victories in 1999-2001.

How can you call it "Throwback" when you are re-commentating the matches? Commentary loses its edge when you are talking about an event from many years ago. I can just imagine the new commentator having to do re-takes if the director wasn't happy with the description first time around... why not use the ORIGINAL commentary, be it from the US / Canadian networks (or as a Brit the BBC?) and the events in full too please rather than potted highlights. Always baffles me that the IOC wants to encourage participation yet severely ,limits watching old footage which would help... then again they want break dancing in - if that's a sport then I might ask if boot polishing can be included for 2024
