    I've beat FF7, at least 10 times when it first came out. I thought the cut scenes were the must realistic things ever back then. Here I am, 20+ years later, playing it on my switch with the same graphics it had in the 90s. I am just as in love with it now, as I was back then

    The original is absolutely still worth playing just so you can see the creator's intent of this classic and how the game's plot differs from the remake. FF7 is my favorite game of all time.

    Soundtrack is simply amazing, and it is huge. Purchased it on CD, imported from Japan. It's takes up 4 CDs and clocks in at over 4 hours and 30 plus minutes. Favorite song will always be "One-Winged Angel", the music played during the final boss battle. Probably my favorite Final Fantasy song of all time.

    Everytime i decide to play it again, I fall in love. The game‘s pacing is incredible and the game just touches the heart in profound ways. The remake did a good job but sometimes it feels as if it fails providing the same resonance as the og.

      That is because the "remake" is an obvious cash grab with an even more convoluted story that adds nothing to the experience. The voice acting, the added character depth, and visuals are all stunning and vastly better than the original (FF7 didn't have voice acting), but that is really all it has.
      Gameplay is average, the story is a mess, square cannot be bothered to release it in a single package like an actual game should be, it has a few glaring censorship issues that is mostly due to modern Square sucking all kinds of @$$, and all that just to ride the nastolgia and hype of their biggest success.
      Like... does anyone else see the problem with squareEnix being lazy and taking several pages from EA's playbook by releasing this game in mocrotransaction parts? If you release 1/4 of a game, what is the point of buying and playing it? If I buy a game for full retail orice, I expect to get 100% of the package with as complete of an experience as the devs could create. But that is just what FF 7 remake is. Incomplete. And people buy it and praise it with no problem because they want instant gratification over a complete product made with skill, passion, and care.

    • @FreeFlow__
      @FreeFlow__ 2 года назад

      @@Altercate It really is. I just missed og‘s atmosphere, that‘s all. It is still great and no doubt future parts will be better than the first one.

    Thank you for the spoiler free run-down. Highly considering buying the original, especially because I love turn based combat. I did play Remake Intergrade and loved the story and characters from it and it carried me through the game but I pretty much wished the whole time it was turn-based. Personally just did not enjoy the combat at all really in the remake so I feel I'd enjoy this much more.

    Unfortunally yes.
    Unfortunally because I think SE created the whispers so the og FF7 could still be relevant and have even more sales since it's relevant to know what's different.
    They could have make the remake so much better. With modern graphics, modern gameplay and just more story and character development.

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  2 года назад

      I enjoyed the Remake a lot, but I'm worried about where they're going with the Whispers. Ultimately it's all going to come down to how the rest of the series shakes out before I decide if I like it or not...

    I think it's a huge mistake to recommend anybody play FF7R before playing FF7.
    Don't get me wrong, FF7R is great, but with no context of the original, the story (specifically stuff closer to the ending) will do nothing but confuse and turn off newcomers.

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  2 года назад

      I see what you mean, but depending on who you are, that confusion might serve as a hook to get you hyped about learning more about the story. Plus, some people just aren't going to enjoy the original's gameplay. For modern audiences, I do believe the safer bet is to have them try the remake first. 😀

    • @Skywalker67897
      @Skywalker67897 2 года назад

      All that might be true but the way the remake was made, you don’t experience the entire world map like in the original game. The different locations aren’t in the remake but are offered later and for what purpose? To milk more cash for each installment? And how long will it take before you even get to play the entire game? That could take years like was mentioned in the video!

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  2 года назад

      Well said! I think the games complement each other really well, with the remake having the feel of almost a sequel to the original.

  • @Soumein
    @Soumein 2 года назад +1

    I still need to beat the final boss of the original. It definitely has that PS1-2 RPG vibe of playing to see the next cutscene, since I keep trying to replay it, but since I have a rough idea of the events, the JRPG structure does bog it down.
    That and trying for half an hour to steal good equipment a little sooner than you could buy it. My compulsivity to get all the things probably contributes substantially, which makes ff9 and stealing all the gear off every boss quite the chore (and ff8 with 100 of every Magic), haha.

    • @Altercate

    • @Qladstone
      @Qladstone 2 года назад

      I didn't like the final boss in FF7. It was a huge drag, and punishes you for overlevelling and unlocking optional characters because the boss difficulty scales with your party levels and number of characters. To make it easy you need to be not overlevelled, and not unlocked the side characters, or way overtuned with very strong materia on all your characters. If you try something in between it's going to be a pain. Also the whole switching between one side and another to destroy parts in some particular order that regrow if you don't do it properly or fast enough was just annoying. Oh by the way, you have a long trek from the Airship to the final boss during which there is no fixed save point. You're given a save crystal but if you don't use a guide and know when the final boss is coming, you might end up thinking there's still more to the dungeon and end up not using the save crystal. Meaning if you lose to the final boss you have to restart all over from the airship.

    Outside of the graphics, I honestly like the flow, the gameplay, and how chill the game is and how it focuses on telling a story. I also like how you can control all the characters in battle better. Maybe I'm old, but outside of the graphics and voice acting, I enjoy the original more. I never even finished the remake - I just didn't enjoy the gameplay at all. The blocking and parrying stuff really annoys me in particular - it's so cluttered and so much chaos on the screen, with my poor vision I can't see what they want me to see anyway. I never played FF to challenge me - it was always about immersion, its story and characters. I don't understand why the series is trying to bring in the Dark Souls or God of War or Nioh audience for.

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  2 года назад

      Thanks for sharing! Totally understandable. I ended up enjoying Remake eventually, but I had a rough time with the combat at first. I feel the same way about it - it's cluttered and hard to see what's going on, hard to see which enemy you're targeting, etc.
      I have high hopes for FF16 being a good game, but there's definitely a part of me that wishes they'd go back to something turn-based, or at least a hybrid like FF13.

    I hate the casualization of the remake. Magic materia in original gave penalty to hp and str. You had to consider these things as well as character specific Stat growth to equip optimally. Moreover, there were a lot of enemy skills available that really impacted the meta such as enemy skills not splitting damage among multiple targets and white wind being the best heal due to the limitation of the all materia among countless other things. Most of the depth is stripped away in the remake to make way for a dumbed down action rpg. I did play through the remake but I can't get myself through a subsequent playthrough because the combat is an absolute bore for me because I enjoy studying game mechanics and Stat tables.

    • @Altercate
      @Altercate  2 года назад +2

      I do miss all of the complexity and depth of the original game, but it helps for me to see the Remake as a totally different type of experience. From that perspective, I enjoyed it quite a bit, though mostly for the story and characters.

      if action rpgs are not your thing i can understand that. i personally like both games and will be buying part 2, i like the combat in final fantasy 7 remake part 1 so that is probably why we differ. both games in my opinion are very fun to play.

    You're going to hear a lot of people say that the game hasn't aged well, isn't the best FF, and FFX is miles better. I am here to say that that is a complete lie and that FFVII is not only great, but miles better than X, as well as one of my favourite. X is my contender for the most overrated video game of all time.

    SPOILER FOR THE REMAKE: I do think Final Fantasy VII Remake is not a remake at all, and more of a sequel. It treads the original´s story like Back to the Future 2 goes through scenes of the first film.
    So, it would take some extra effort, but, in my opinion, if you can play a modded Steam version of the original, with better graphics, soundtrack and some cheats to make gameplay feel faster and smoother.... that would be the best way to be introduced to the FFVII world as of right now.
