As someone whose only recently played the PS1 FF games I honestly enjoy FF9 much more I just feel like the characters are so much better in that game and the dynamics between them are fantastic plus I feel like FF7 for as amazing as it is had a lot more just annoying or tedious sections that just weren't fun and hot take but after the first time going through midgar that part is soooo drawn out part of the reason I put off the remake for so long cause it's my least favorite part of the game part 2 is gonna be amazing though it's covering the best parts of the original

Shakespeare writing a script is FF9. I get strong feelings from both and can never pick a favorite. Something about IX is just so beyond all I have to criticize it for is the battle system being a little bit too slow but once you get used to that everything else is 9.9 out of 10 it's basically perfect like Final Fantasy 7 but resonates with me a bit more. Characters are the ultimate acheivement of the art imo. Each playable is so developed and it plays out perfectly and "You're not alone" is so beautiful and perfect of a culmination. The exploration of different paths, just the intro with the characters with the text..
Anyway super fan of FF9 I could just type for hours put to make a long story short yeah ff9 usually in my top spot same here

@@assassinofkeybladesalso a shorter message yeah I agree on rebirth from what I've seen of the trailers it looks like they did things right however I think the midgar part of remake was still a solid 8.5 to 9. (Og 7 and 9 would be like 9.8... Rebirth, well we know where it ends because the description in the store, but I am so ready for post midgar. 150 hours of core story sounds amazing. I hope i get to do all the stuff from OG plus much more. Spending like 5 to 7 hundred to get in right away!

I'd say Final Fantasy 9 is Superior in many ways but Final Fantasy 7 is just the masterpiece Final Fantasy 9 is like a character masterpiece kind of a Shakespearean tale of man I don't know it's just so goddamn good but Final Fantasy 7 is Lake the Undisputed Champion for most of us except for those who grew up playing the one where Kafka is the main villain I think it's called Final Fantasy 6 in America or three or something but yeah it's a ff7 has to be up there in the top five of all time even without the Nostalgia glasses

my older cousin was really into final fantasy and played through most of them. It was a big bonding point for us and i committed myself to beating 8, 9, and 12, but i was never able to complete a run of 7 for various reasons (deleted save file, scratched discs, life).
Truth be told, while there’s so much i love about FF games, i was always beyond ready to be done with them by the time i reached the end because how grindy and drawn out their plots were. So i came to assume that FF7 would be the same tiring marathon as the others I’d played, even though so many people (including my cousin) had spoken of FF7 as such a cut above not just other FFs, but most games in general. My half baked playthroughs of 7 also hadn’t given me any reason to think any different either.
Years later, reluctantly starting up a new save file as an adult to pass the time while i was healing from a foot injury, the obsession with 7 all of a sudden made sense to me. I could’ve always told you the characters and story were cool, the music was amazingly scored, and the world lore was well written, but what really opened my eyes was when i got into the battle and materia systems, which i think is one of the most well designed mechanics I’ve ever seen in a game. Deceptively intricate, but still easy to manage for a beginner. I became obsessed with trying to find and master new unique materia and as a result did way more sidequesting and grinding than i think I’ve ever done (happily at least) in any other game. I maxed out all my characters just as a byproduct of the amount of it i did. The WEAPONS are such good superbosses too (the only i ever remotely cared about enough to beat) such cool designs and lore and a great incentive to keep playing after beating it.
One other thing i think that this game did so well was how they scaled leveling up. It was done at the perfect speed, where i really felt like my characters were definitely growing stronger as i leveled up, but not too strong too quickly. This makes it feel so rewarding when you finally get to a place where your party starts hitting for 9999. If i ever make a game with an RPG level system i want to scale exactly how 7 did it.
All in all, I’m happy i can finally understand what people mean why FF7 is such an incredible game. 9 is so charming and 12 is really fun (honestly didn’t care for 8), but there’s a magic and an aura to 7 that you don’t find in those other ones.

It's crazy to see the younger generation play the remake but never touch or even know what the original looks like. I also really don't like the fact that the industry decided it would be better to give us some kind of spin off rather than a 1:1 remake of the actual game. It's less remake and more "interpretation," if we are being honest. The way the remake ended was, in ways, similar to the end of the original. I think Square did this to cover their rear ends in the event that they weren't able to complete the series.

This game was a product of the situation at the time. Had any of the contributing factors been different, final fantasy 7 would not have been like this. This iteration could have been a Super Nintendo game.

The characters in the original have a much more attractive, clean look. It's because the original characters are similar to cartoon characters, while the new ones are more realistic. More realistic doesn't mean better.

Why do people pretend that Aerith is hard to say? It's a play on the word Earth and if you can say Earth you can say Aerith.

I like that you say Aeris instead of Aerith. I always feel like such an outcast when I keep saying Aeris and everyone looks confused. 😅
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the remake. I feel like it doesn't fully grasp what made the original game great and is just looking to cash in on nostalgia.

I'd rather put a grinder to my crotch than play the remake. It's like if you took Elden Ring and made it turn based. You are pretty much killing what made it great by doing that. But that's just one man's opinion. But I have to say, FFVI is my all time Final Fantasy favorite title quickly followed by FFVII and then FFX and then FFIV. I have yet to try FFIX so don't judge me hehe. I'm pretty sure I still have the original PS1 FFVII disc box and of course all the cd's (nuts, gott'em) lying somewhere along all my PS2 games and console. Might be time to dust the old girl off and plunge into nostalgia once more.

I´m replaying it right now and I still love the game very much for it´s awesome story, pacing, world and design. But "best video game ever made" is a bit of a stretch from my point of view. From a modern point of view the pc controls couldn´t be described anything else but "atrocious" and some parts of the game are barely playable without a guide or a walkthrough (like Don Corneos fetch quest for example). Don´t get me wrong, I really love FF VII. But I wouldn´t sugarcoat that some parts of the game have aged very badly.

It seem like they dont want to make the FF7 we all know and love but instead they want to make their version of FF7, with marvel timelines and everything 😑

It is a remake, because the entire gameplay is different: camera angle, controls, graphics, battle system, all very different. They took what the original game was, and tried to keep the the basic story, but added voices and even some characters like aerith have different personalities

    • @chronology556
      @chronology556 6 месяцев назад +1

Um… the plot is definitely different.
Zack is alive in a different universe or time line.
Sephiroth is like the boogeyman from another realm, rather than a properly foreshadowed and foreboding villain like the original game.
The amount of times he appeared in the Remake out of nowhere is bad writing.

FFXI was a good EverQuest clone. It’s alive unlike EverQuest. It was the last game directed by Sakaguchi after all, but in general you’re right.
FF died for me when Sakaguchi left and felt hollow since PS3.

I can see why new players might have a bit of a problem getting into FFVII. Retro graphics are coming back so Ill just assume the roblox-ish characters in FFVII will be OK, but the English translation can be a bit wonky.
Then the lack of difficulty can put some people off, it is by far the easiest game in the series. The materia system is great in theory, but if you just kill a few extra enemies between bosses most of the game can easily be cleared with just attack and a cure every once in a while. The game has level checkpoints, but the skill checks are almost only found in end game (except for maybe Guard Scorpion and Diamond Weapon).
The soundtrack has some really good songs, but I can understand why it puts some people off due to the soundfont being dated. It leans more to the bitpop style SNES sound in FFVI rather than the much more alive PSX sound in FFVIII and IX.
