I would genuinely want to see a Space Hulk with nothing inside of it. A group of Space Marines running around, scratching their heads and wondering where the hell their enemies were, only to leave utterly confused and disappointed.
They might be leaving utterly confused and disappointed about not finding any enemies of the Emperor to purge but they will be doing so in their brand new space hulk. Lol
OMG I’d love this as a story BUT the moral/end of the story would be the realisation amongst the marines, as the leave the Space Hulk, was that their true victory was the friends they made along the way…
Imagine that. And then it turns out the Tyranids were just hiding. So, when they take the Space Hulk to a port, all hell breaks loose

I love some of the space hulk stories where there's some insane tech or relic within the hulk, enemies or not. There have been some good ones. I remember one where the hulk had ancient (human made) heretical AI intelligence at its core, and there were like 3 factions fighting amongst the marines (I think chaos and dark Eldar there for some nefarious reason) but I have ZERO recall on what anthology, book of shorts, etc that it came from. I've read so much 40k over the years I'm getting to where I've forgotten as much as I remember.

I absolutely love the Templars. And their reverence in this story is portrayed brilliantly.
And I believe that the context of it all makes their behaviour very fitting. It's a ship whose passengers were devout followers of the Imperial creed and it's not like the Marines were in an intense combat situation.
They may be a bunch of religious zealot hard arses, but you just can't help but like them. Go Team Sigismund!!!
Adelard just pulled the same move on the Genestealer Priest as that Astartes Captain did to the possessed Inquisitor in the "Astartes" project. Awesome.

Old Adelard was a pretty bad mthfkr......to take on a fkn BROODLORD!! That's basically a pure-strain genestealer named Banner getting pissed and turning into the genestealer Hulk. I think Broodlords stats have changed since this story LOL
An excellent tale indeed, it contains both killing and praising the Emperor. Truly warms both my hearts.
Killing in the name of the God emperor and praying in the name of the God emperor are my two and only favorite things to do in the 40th millennium. By the emperor those may be the only two things I do can't really remember the last time I ate for killing all the heretics and xenos in the name of the emperor.
Hmm reason for tau interests for space hulks: "Hey free real estate! Let's investigate then put these vast materials to use!"

They're in my top 5 as well. When I got into 40k it was the third edition starter box: black templars. Still easily the best art on a starter box ever.

Oh God. Imagine the nausea caused by gravity randomly giving out in certain areas.
Space Marines don't really suffer from gravity related nausea unless in the most extreme of situations. Drop Pod launches don't even phase them. The only time i've heard of a Space Marine puking is due to Nurgle, Unsanctioned Warp translocations, and on purpose to burn shit. Space Hulk grav fluctuations would probably only be anywhere between g(0) to g(1) but it would be cool to write about them automatically calculating differences in bolt round trajectory, movement, and combat techniques as the gravity quickly swapped back and forth. Maybe have them complaining that the autosenses in the armour react too slowly and how they have to turn them off to calculate instantly in their own trans human minds.
In one of the Gaunt's Ghosts novels there's a part where the ship they were being transported on suffered some damage and due to malfunctions and the gravity was intermittent and in some places pointed in the wrong direction when it flickered back on so dudes would fall onto the ceiling and get smashed and it sounded p confusing and messed up because they couldn't tell until you got there which end was up. Similar thing happened in the Blackstone Fortress novel.

@@boartank yeah I was thinking of the one where they end up lost in the warp for a decade and then getting attacked and boarded when they fall back into real space, think it’s the second to last book but idk
The big difference, is devout pilgrims vs base humans.
base humans in their eyes, are one word short of being declared heretics.
a ship full of devout pilgrims have proven themselves, since they are on a crusade in the name of the emperor. even if they are not armed like they are.

This did show a side of the black Templars I would have never thought possible.
Check out "The Glorious Tomb" by Guy Haley sometime. Got my Wife to listen with me on an extended ride, and by the end she was so moved she'd gotten a little teary eyed. Totally not out of boredom either. It's simultaneously one of the best audiodramas, Black Templar short stories AND dreadnought stories committed to the page.

Dude that is so awesome that your wife listened to a Warhammer 40K story about the black Templars let alone got teary-eyed by the end of it that is an awesome wife you got there good deal, The Emperor would be proud.

To be fair, the Templars do start to have a lot more respect for the mortal guardsmen as the Helsreach crusade progresses during the story.
Even the Warmaster himself is a fan of the Black Templars.
Helsreach was my first foray into the templars and Grimaldus was one hell of a bad ass, and I really like their aesthetic of templar knights, and I love hearing more stories into them. With their prayer over the fallen, I can honestly see it as a thing some of the templars would do, not all knights are the same, whereas some would see themselves on a higher plain then the regular citizens, some I would say would show some respect for those fallen who had that same devout faith that they did in the god emperor.

This reminded me of ragnar blackmane and his encounter with tyranids in the space hulk. It was my first ever warhammer series that i read and i love it and re-read it now and then...

Yeah...gotta agree with ya...genestealers are getting old, id like to personally see some of the minor xenos inhabiting a space hulk....some of them like the Hrud or Ambuls are pretty terrifying too, hell even a yuvath or Dark age AI
The Rak,gol , they should involve some of the minor Xenos races for variety if not because they are cool for example.... The Worm that Walks!
Love this story. Guy Haley understands the setting very well. Glad he is keeping it grim dark. And the Black Templar's are epic as always.

Thanks for making this video. Great story that keep me locked in the entire time. Like you, I feel the Templars stopping to pray over the martyred dead to be very fitting for them.
As you said, be sieged, and walking through a space hulk set your mind differently. Praying for the dead is not out of character, on the contrary, it fits perfectly.

Every time the Templars come up, I just cant help but think of how fucking awesome the Armageddon series by Boylan was.
I really hope that the black templars get their own codex supplement soon and that their sword brethren units and sword brethren terminators are reflected to show their amazing lore

Got the feeling we'll just be a supplement in the Imperial Fists Codex Supplement. Again. That's what happened with 8th. I'd love to be surprised though.
@@mouseketeery i dont want to admit it but i think so too, that and worse they will glaze over our own specific lore and unique units to just make us somewhat playable. If sword brethren get decent buffs then i guess ill be happy but i really want our chapters culture to shine out once again

Stopping to pray felt right. This wasn't cowardly guardsmen but, me and women who took up the same oath as the Black Tenplars to bring the light and wrath of the Emperor to the unbelieving and heretic alike. These were their "kin" of purpose.
If you enjoy listening on audio books about space hulks and space marines fighting gene stealers, then I highly recommend 'Hunger'. It is a great audiobook about flesh tearers fighting gene stealers and gabriel seth going one on one with the brood lord.

I'd love to see a space hulk story where they find the genestealers dead and the hulk occupied by something else (not daemons). Maybe a creature with one of the halo artifacts or the Hrud.

After watching bunch of sci-fi movies and reading plethora of sci-fi books, I have an advice for anyone encountering derelict space vessel: Open fire.

If you want a fix of an amazing audio drama that takes place inside a derelict space hulk with an unknown enemy that isn’t Genestealers, then give “Alone” a shot. It follows a young Raven Guard librarian through what seems like the scenes from Deadspace or the movie Event Horizon. The 40k Audio drama series are extremely hit or miss, but I would say that Alone is on about on par with The Glorious Tomb.
I'll look for It and give It a reading battle brother.
Great story, not sure about the Templars they sound badass, I think a spacehulk story where 4-5 different races show up because something inside everybody wants and inside a terrible secret and an even more Horrific foe
I was thinking about how perfect Black Templars are to raid space hulks, but then I thought, Imagine if loyalist World Eaters still existed and how perfect they would be to clear Space Hulks of wayward xenos....
Or part of a pilgrimage fleet discovered in a hulk with the numeral XI plastered all over it.

I've never liked the Black Templars. As Sigismund wasn't a blood son Dorn nor are the Templars. Plus they make the rest of the Imperium, including the Inquisition, seem welcoming and compassionate.
But this is a Wolf Lord Rho video so I'm going to check it out.

I’d like to read a Space Hulk story where a confirmed demonic occurrence calls in the Grey Knights. Maybe on a former pilgrimage ship? Or maybe an Astartes warship from during the Great Crusade?
The grey knights were not formed until the siege of the palace during the Horus heresy. When malcador put Titan in the warp it didn’t return until after the great scouring when horus’ forces were retreating into the eye of terror. I do agree a story about grey knight reinforcements needing to be called in for a space hulk or pilgrimage fleet battle would be nice too

I think it is in character for them. The vast majority of baseline humans are little more than meat. However, these people were on a religious mission. Something that the highly religious templars would appreciate. Therefore, they were doing the emperor's work, and thusly had more value.
