    Great content! Also you sound like Daniel Stern (narrator of The Wonder Years and bad guy in Home Alone) 🤣 it’s nostalgic and calming.

    Wath kind of paint did you use for the frame ?

    • @averagejoesjimshomeprojects

      We used a water based cabinet paint. It’s not cheap, but smooths over nice and hardens really well

    What angle did you the design between the legs? What are the dimensions?

    hi im building this for a cient I am 14 years old and was wondering the angle used for the x's

    • @averagejoesjimshomeprojects
      @averagejoesjimshomeprojects  4 года назад +1

      The angles on these X's were pretty extreme. They were too far for me to use my Miter saw, so I had to use a circular saw by hand. Very dangerous. If you have a band saw that's big enough, it would be much safer to cut them. The angles were roughly 37 degrees where X's meet in the middle, and 78 degrees where they attach to the top and bottom. This is approximate, as the exact angles will vary based on the exact size of the table. I still had to use quite a bit of wood filler to fill in the gaps and clean it up. I'm bummed I didn't film that part of the project, it was one of the more difficult parts. Good luck, and always BE SAFE. No woodworking project is worth the loss of a finger or worse! Thanks for watching.

    Using an HVLP sprayer for the clear coats will give you a perfect finish

    Looking for an idea like this that I build over the summer

    never shake the poly, it puts bubbles in it! also if you mix your poly with 30%mineral spirits you will get a better finish and it brings out more of the beauty of the wood. And yes always use a good quality brush for best results. Nice job btw.

    You don’t happen to have dimensions do you? I have been look for design ideas and this is almost exactly what I had pictured in my mind. Great looking table and subscribed :)

      Thanks Flynn, I actually completely custom built this, so I had my wife determine the dimensions based on where she wanted to put the table. She measured the couch and how tall and wide she wanted it to be, and I just built it to those specs. I can measure it out and let you know, if you’d like.

      Average Joe’s Jim’s Home Projects , thanks for the reply. I wasn’t sure if there were any specific ratios needed with regards to leg height cross member support, etc.

      Not really, the only dimensions I would worry about are making sure it’s tall enough to fit your knees under the top when sitting on your stools. Be aware also, it’s more difficult to cut the angles on your X’s on the frame if you want to put them in there for visual effect. Our dimensions are 78” long by 13” deep, and 35” tall to the top of the tabletop. We overhung the top over the frame by 2.5” on each side.

    What are the dimensions of this table... Also did you use 2x6 Spruce for the table top. One more question, I see you used table top fasteners..what did you use to cut your slots under the table (biscuit jointer?)

    • @averagejoesjimshomeprojects
      @averagejoesjimshomeprojects  4 года назад

      I actually used (4) 2X4’s for the top. I joined them with a Kreg jig, drilling the holes and then screwing them together. I didn’t have a biscuit jointer at the time and have since picked one up, but basically the table is held with only wood glue and several cabinet screws. If I would have had a biscuit jointer, I would have utilized it, as it creates a much stronger table top. But this one works fine, and if I ever make another I’ll definitely biscuit joint it.

    Did you cut the pieces for the x’s or did you buy those with the angled ends?

    • @averagejoesjimshomeprojects
      @averagejoesjimshomeprojects  4 года назад

      I cut them, it was no easy task just cause the angles on this table are so extreme. My miter saw couldn’t cut them at the angle necessary so I had to use a circular saw by hand and do some sanding. Dangerous move, which I didn’t video. Not perfect, but once I glued and painted, turned out pretty nice.

    didn't hear much at all about how to build that table. Really didn't enjoy watching someone use their tools. 3:23
