    Perhaps it is due to the square design, but this vehicle looks SO much larger than the current Santa Fe. Upon first glance I thought it was at least as large as the Palisade. Kudos to Hyundai for throwing in all their chips on such an interesting design. Very eye-catching!

      while it looks nice, I wonder what the reliability will be with their engine.....Hyundai is notorious for bad engines....and their new dual clutch transmission is an unknown entity. My son and daughter have the old style 6 speed hyundai transmission and they work flawlessly......why mess with a good thing.

      @@dm19609721 6 speeds get less MPG. I have a 6speed in my truck and if you drive it correctly, you can get better than suggested MPG. Basically getting better MPG, idiot proof. Bur some changes are glaring. Subaru went from a 4 speed to a CVT. Which is the most obvious example of increased MPG via the tranny.

    I was blown away when I frist saw it, initially didn’t like the rear end though, but after few months of looking at the reviews all over youtube I sort of got used to that unusual look. Last week I even had a chance to see it in person at the electric vehicles motorshow, and it looks much better in reality. The quality of trimming and details are superb, the space inside is impressive, so I am seriously considering this as a replacement for my current car. Only bummer is that in Europe they will have only hybrid versions ☹️ Have to mention that there were many other manufacturers at the motorshow , including KIA, Renault, Skoda, Volkswagen etc but somehow this car imho has the most complete, really pleasant design, and amazing quality of the trimming.

    Luv this vehicle generally, and yes the rear liftgate is HUGE, taillights/turn signals low on the bumper which I'm not crazy about but its fine. Interior design is FANTASTIC no complaints at all, except for this being the Calligraphy top-trim and NO HVAC CONTROLS in the second row which you mentioned. I would buy this great SUV. Thanks for the nice review my friend.

      The reason for the low lights - I think you forgot to get back to it - but you see it in the almost perfectly VERTICLE gate lifters - it is shocking something like 20 cm extra clearance! It gives an idea of what styling choices are often made to "be cool" at the expense of the product actually being the best in function.

    It always amasses me that these companies can design, build tooling, develop the supply chain, prove out the production and start getting finished vehicles out to the dealerships all within a couple of years. It used to take gm about 10 years to come out with a drastically new product that had half the complexity of a new car like this.

      This has more than a passing resemblance to a Land Rover Defender. Many of Hyundai / Kia / Genesis models have designs that are copies of other manufacturers. The Genesis models that look like BMWs, the Kias that look like Civics, the Genesis SUVs that look like Macans...
      Motor Trend on the Santa Fe: "The Land Rover Defender-esque vibe that pervades the Santa Fe's sheetmetal continues inside, with a steering wheel and beam-style dash that evoke (perhaps we should say Evoque) Britain's fancy family-haulers."
      AutoBlog: "Hyundai really butched this one up, to the point where Land Rover comparisons are not unwarranted. Seriously, it looks more like a Land Rover Discovery than the actual Land Rover Discovery."
      Edmunds: "We think the aggressive new look bears a striking resemblance to the current Land Rover Defender.
      That's no accident. Hyundai has said the car's design has been shaped around "the latest outdoor lifestyle trends."
      In other words, the Defender is selling well, so let's copy it.
      Car and Driver: "In fact, the new version looks more like a Land Rover Defender than it does its predecessor....If the new Santa Fe's exterior looks like it was created by someone working from their memory of a Land Rover Defender, the interior looks like it was designed by someone sitting in an actual Defender. The Hyundai's cabin is considerably more upscale than before, with a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel that looks like it may have been pulled straight off the Land Rover production line."

    • @alex99398
      @alex99398 9 месяцев назад

      @@msalzberg4962 Your comment oozes of ignorance, bordering on sheer stupidity. It's one thing to say the designs are sheer copies of other brands without knowing the details as to why. The average person knows Kia designs have had dramatic styling changes since 2006 with much cleaner silhouettes. However, what they don't know is this coincides with the hiring of Peter Schreyer, the former head of design at VW / Audi. Peter is behind the iconic designs including the Audi TT, '97 Golf, New Beetle, '00 A4, '97 A6 etc. so yeah, there's a reason why Kia (and later Hyundai) designs have more of a Teutonic flavor.
      Similarly, the Genesis GV80 has Bentley Bentayga-esque lines because this corresponds with the hiring of Luc Donckerwolke, who was the head designer at Lamborghini (Diablo, Murcielago, Gallardo, Miura concept etc.) and was later the Bentley Director of Design. He oversaw Audi design as well. Later, Luc was hired at the Hyundai group and took over as Head of Design at Genesis, taking over from Peter Schreyer.
      It's one thing for designers to flat out copy designs (as we often see with Chinese companies) and German and Japanese companies are all guilty of infractions in the past. However, it's different when the actual designers are FROM those companies you are claiming to hire as they're bring over their design ethos and they have street cred. Now I don't know who is behind this Santa Fe design, but given Hyundai likely has hundreds of staff globally in their design team, I'm sure there are some who have experience working at Land Rover. Is there a strong resemblance with the exterior, yes. Does it look like it came off the Land Rover line, no. That's total BS. The interior of this Santa Fe looks much nicer and more functional imo than even the top end Range Rover which costs 3x as much.
      Interestingly, look up the interior of the 2024 Range Rover and you'll see a two-spoke steering wheel which is not unlike the 2-spoke steering wheel found in the Genesis GV70. You're making an absolute fool of yourself..but hey, you have every right to do so...

    Great Video. Boxy is in the Vogue. Indian market is witnessing similar wave. Hyundai Exter, Hyundai Verna has turned edgy-boxyish from fluidic, and now SantaFe. Mahindra has two similarly priced vehicle with the newer model, Scorpio N turning Boxier, Tata is shifting too towards less curves, Suzuki Fronx is the Boxier/SUVish version of the Hashback Baleno. So SantaFe is going to be a Hit in the segment as an early entrant in India. Appreciation to these designs principles might be subjective, but to me this is the most marvelous looking Hyundai I have ever seen.

    • @Movieman1965
      @Movieman1965 9 месяцев назад

      Hahahaha!. You know when you observe automotive body styling over the years the trend is always about going from boxy to curvy, then curvy to boxy over time. Same with body lines. They go from sharp edges to rounded edges over time. Then they smooth out the door panels, then they put ridges/creases in them. Then, the front to rear sweep changes from either sloping up wardor downward. Then they either make the back end more squared off or they trim the back end like a wedge. Then, the cycle repeats. The human eyes get tired of the same looks after awhile. So the exterior design always goes through these design cycles. As far as the instrument cluster they tend to follow technology evolution like now it's large digital displays etc. Anyway, that's pretty much what happens with most products. The eyes like things to change after awhile.

    I can't understand the love for a bench seat. I don't know of any family where the kids would prefer a bench to having their own seat. When I was growing being squished in the middle was my sibling's biggest nightmare.
    The rectangle makes for a shape with maximum utility, albeit not the most stylish. Although Hyundai did do a very good job especially on the interior. A full class above all its competitors. Except maybe the Mazda XC90

      You lose out on the max passenger count with the captains seats. We’ve had them before and they were ok but with a bench, you could fit 3 3 and Brant sears in a row in case you have little ones or if you have a couple of kids and a friend they always want to sit together. Basically with a bench you have the option of 6-7 passenger while the captains seats there’s no option.

    Great. Went from a sporty 5 passenger budget X5 to another box for those who really should be looking at a minivan. I hear it's almost a full 1.5 seconds slower 0-60 due to being much heavier than the outgoing model. Same garbage jerky dual-clutch transmission as the old model? And I thought the push button transmission selector was dumb, but holy shit, that backwards turn signal stalk to shift gears? Can't wait until the lease is up on my '22 Santa Fe Calligraphy, if the junk transmission makes it that far.

      I have the same selector in my IONIQ5 and love it compared to the push button I have in the Palisade I’m driving this week. It’s very easy to use, I guess just like anything, you need to accept change. Frees up so much room and is very intuitive. What issues have you had with tranny?
