- Homes in the Lost Valley section of Manville were under water in the wake of heavy rainfall from Hurricane Ida remnants. On the other side of the Millstone River and D&R Canal, Zarephath Christian Church and Somerset Christian Academy in Somerset were also submerged. (Video by Andre Malok | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com)

I feel bad for all those people, but it's a known flood zone. Sadly, this has happened many times before, but they still build houses there.

That's not regular water that sewer water
They haven't built houses in the Valley for many years due to toxins in the soil (or something like that) caused by so many floods. The homes are mostly old, and lots of people were done wrong by their insurance companies from floods going back decades. Most simply can't afford to move and in addition a good portion of residents are elderly. It's mostly not a situation of stubbornness, just a tough situation.

@@Nergly Thank you. I spent a good deal of my life in Manville, and still have family there. It's always a tough situation but mostly everyone comes together and helps out how they can to get through it...stubborn Mustang pride 😆

Its a flood plain . Lots of low-lying areas in NJ. They just don't get hit hard very often. But every 50 years or so just as people forget, nature does it's thing.

The building at 1:02 is the zarephath’s new ministry center. The school hasn’t been going for quite some time but there is a co-op.

Manville always floods! It is hard to gauge flooding there...still, thoughts and prayers back home!!!
This was worse than Floyd and Irene.
This was the worst ever though and places often safe(r) took a hit. The revisions of the water levels also occurred too late to help a lot of people. We didn't know till 4 am that our house would get it but by they the water was in the driveway.

@@lauraguimont8642 Lost three cars and first floor had 6-8 inches of water. I estimate 3 feet in the garage. Not good obviously but a lot of folks had it worse. No fire, no loss of power and it's possible the gas was turned off for safety. The hardwood floors and some furniture are likely goners.

I’ve been using the thoughts from that purse there in Revelation 11:18. about all those who are ruining the earth, this is what contributed to the climate change. @@scottprather5645 I was simply stating that climate change or not, flood plains, flood. I don't want to get into a climate debate (because of course climate changes). But another problem with even discussing this is everyone has picked a "side" and neither is right or wrong. You state intensity and frequency , I assume you mean have increased? They haven't. 2005 was a particular bad year for major storms. But before and after that it's been a pretty "stable" number. Most years average 10-11 hurricanes in western hemisphere. The thing is now we know about it all in real time. So it seems like it's worse. Another problem is nearly every bit of information we read is agenda driven with little or skewed data one way or the other. Our data base is only back to 1850's and even most of that is suspect. We tend to see and look at things in our very short lifetimes (depressing - I know) , but in reality things change over 10's of thousands of years.
