Hey dear made this skirt and it turned out amazing...but the only thing I found was, the elastic is just the rite amount of stretch to get in..why didn't it had more elasticity? I mean the skirt and the elastic measurements were off somewhere? Or just the same amount as the waist size..so if she grows up a lil bit, it won't get in her waist
I'm so glad to hear that! About the elastic...did you cut the elastic at least 2" smaller than the waist? What kind of elastic did you use? I used knit elastic which is great for sewing through directly onto the fabric but I have noticed some brands of knit elastic will lose a bit of elasticity by an inch. For example, if I wanted the final waist measurement to be 17", it will have increased to 18" after sewing. Another method is to make a casing and feed the elastic through it. Also, for slip on skirts I always measure around the hips over her diaper which was 21" and add 2-2.5" to that. But just keep in mind, the more you increase the measurement the more gathers there will be at the waist for the pleats. I hope that helps :)
Zune's Sewing Therapy ok great..I didn't measure the skirt with the diaper on.. maybe thats y it turned out barely to get it...next time I'll measure it rite plus cut the elastic 2' smaller than the waist.. I don't know what these elastics called here.. but it looks the same as u are using.. ty for you reply dear..love box pleates..and would love to make one for myself too.. :)
iglittleangel When you make an adult sized one, be sure to measure around the widest part of your hips and then add at about 2" to that measurement. That way it will be easy to slip on and off. Share some pics I'd love to see how they turn out :)
