Longtime user of Frequency as a de-esser. One other feature that most de-essers don't have is a release time. I always set my release time for de-essing to somewhere between 1ms and 15ms, depending on the tempo and phrasing. Anything slower makes the vocal sound like its oscillating between syllables.
Great suggestion!
Great tutorial on Frequency 2. Thanks again Steve
Great use of the Swiss army knife. Excellent demo.
Since I'm using Studio One 6.6 and not Cubase, I'm doing a similar action with my SSL X-DynEQ. However I'm also doing mid side EQ on top of it, so EQ, compressor, expander, with designated areas of stereo, L/R, M/S setting per band of which there's 24 bands.
Studio one has got some killer FX as well for sure!
Excellent, useable info. Keep it up!
Another excellent video from Steve and very clear explanations, as usual, of some of the features of that amazing EQ. We have several fancy EQ plugins in our studio, but our frequent go-to is still the stock Frequency2 in Cubase because of the versatile features you explained so clearly. We love using the M/S and sidechain functions on it as well. And I liked the sound of the first country song there!
Thanks, yeah Dalen Hargett is a real talent. Can't wait to work on more of his upcoming stuff.
Great video! I’ve always understood the uses for dynamic REDUCTION, but this is a good explanation of uses for dynamic increase. I would love to see you tackle the Quadrafuzz plugin.
That's another one of my favorite cubase plugins.I go into some of its uses in this video around the 9 minute mark

Frequency 2 can do something that do no other plugin in the world can do (that I know of): it accepts different side-chain sources PER BAND. Every other plugin will only let you set the sidechain for the entire plugin - not per band though!
Its such a killer feature, Frequency is an under rated monster.
great explanation!! very good video!
Its a great bit of kit, I just wish they'd make it scalable so you can see what you're doing clearly
You can double click on the individual eqs at the bottom and it will take up the whole bottom portion
This is my go to EQ so this has been very useful: thanks Steve. Pity about the third example being rap crap but 🤷♂️
Great video but I did have to search RTA 😂 It might only be me that didn’t know what it is. It means Real Time Analyzer
I feel ya, I have to look stuff up all the time with the music tech world changing on a daily basis it seems.
