Kumite tip: Step through punch

  • Karate-ka spend a lot of time training (kihon and kata) where they step through to punch. But they rarely do this during kumite. This video just shows one way a person can use this step through footwork (Ayumi ashi in japanese) in kumite

    It would be even faster and harder to defend if the strike was thrown about one foot before the body moved. It's called independent motion or weapon first.

    Good job working on having the other hand, you could call it the jab, out there as well, opponent may get distracted by that and not so clearly see the step and of course the follow-through punch with the right.
