Was thinking that one point he did wear glasses but then not also needs some thin decent gloves / rigger gloves to pull the quarter panel off save blood 😂
I can agree.... I've had welders flesh from mig welding the injury was blisters on the surface of my eyes..... only took a few seconds... and weeks of pain, blurry vision constant tearing eyes(another pain is my tear ducts are in my nose so in my case snotting every where dam birth defect...)
Hey thanks for the comment. I am actually wearing wearing glasses (not goggles) throughout the entire episode with the exception of. 9 seconds of cutting when taking the lower part of the rear quarter off- look closer on the video you will see there is once instance of that. Only. Appreciate the feedback though. Defo need to improve on my H&S. Thank you 👍🙌🏽
Great video Sam, So cool of Alan letting you use his workshop too at least that way you get to stay warm and dry as well as having him on hand to help you if you get stuck 👍😎
So lucky, you're getting an apprenticeship thrown in, all the right tools, and and a garage to work in too! obviously you're paying Alan but the expertise and knowledge base is priceless!
Amazing how much work there is to remove and replace the rear quarter panel. Loved the sketch of the chuckle brothers removing the glass and Al's comment of him doing it by himself hen head butting the glass
I’ve always gone with pulling out the damage as much as possible before removing an outer panel, makes life much easier to get things back within tolerance in the long run! 👍🏻
I know we’ve all said it Sam, but goggles are all times with the grinder and I’d wear gloves too when those sharp metal edges, especially when you pull it off. I’ve learnt the hard way too for unprotected surfaces when the grinder is in full swing. Will wreck glass and paint surfaces. That said, excellent progress well done!
Great video and well done on your first quarter panel removal. You did better then me with removing the glass as mine shattered. Look forward to seeing the welding part.
@@jamesfraser1340 Yes i was cringing watching where all those sparks went, broke out into a cold sweat as he pulled the panel off bare handed...Gloves essential..
Very interesting to see the internal architecture of the mini. Please look after your personal safety more eyes and gloves 🧤. Did you empty the fuel tank. Before commencing work?
Glasses for grinding are a must. Gloves when removing panels, especially when your drilling out welds and grinding, Parts can be replaced, your eyes can't 🧤👓
Getting on with it .Gotta say now rear quarter is off the damage dont look too bad . Next time you cut yourself wrap it with masking tape keeps the crap out works better than a plaster lol old school style
You have one hell of a job getting an MRI scan if you have metal splinters in your eyes! Do you have a doner vehicle for all the glass with grinder pop marks? Interesting video 👍
Well done Sam but the obvious comments about protection of you and the rest of the car. You can get a welding blanket that can be used. Alan might have one. Getting that crease on the inner arch could be tricky without specialist equipment. A new 1/4 panel might only be around £250?
Take it from someone with experience, wear goggles when using a grinder! Had a couple of trips to the hospital to have metal splinters taken out of my eyes, not a pleasant experience at all! And as others have said, cover the glass or you will ruin it!
Get yer goggles on Boi!! Grinding discs can disintergrate and end up losing your sight. Glasses dont stop the Sparks getting in you eye either, a Mate had Sparks that had actually started to rust on his eye ball, doctor removed the with a needle at the hospital.
I have a 2015 F56 Mini Cooper S i notice at 6.00 ish it does seem very common doors or dry door frame seals have rubbed away paint down to bare metal, ive spoken to my local BMW dealer and hope to get my car looked at after the Covid lockdown by them this is a design fault issue IMO and BMW must be aware of it.
@@SLRebuilt I'm aware of BMW repairing some on F56 forums but your white mini is a great example damage on mine is as bad as this and my rubber door seal that sits on the rusted damaged area is dry and rough as time goes on and these great little cars get older the truth will show it is a poor design fault BMW should offer free repairs as most owners are just living with this issue.
Cutting metal sheet with a grinder and spraying sparks all over that open fuel tank pipe wasn't the best working practice. You were VERY lucky! And I suspect you now have burn marks all over that door trim panel ... Just try to think ahead about what could go wrong. Because one day it will.
Completely agree with the above comment! Not trolling just giving you advice for the future! You will find when the sun hits that glass you will see tiny metal fragments in the glass and when it gets wet they will rust! Im in the trade and seen it hundreds of times! Other than that you did a great job!
Someones going to learn the hard way, when having to replace interior and glass on not only the vehicle they are working on but all those around their work space
You are certainly learning new skills great job -well done. But like many others have said you need to wear the protective equipment - the potential for injuiries must be high and just not worth the risk.
Indeed. I have all the way through woth exception of the 9 seconds of cutting and the no gloves pulling the panel. I get it though. Silly of me. 👍 thank you for the advice. Appreciate it. 🙌🏽
Why don't you use any power tools? It would really help with the efficiency of the disassembly. impact driver for the small stuff, impact wrench for the larger items. 4:30 then saw you using Al's impact wrench xD great minds think alike.
Please Please Please wear the appropriate PPE . You can never be too careful. I remember grinding once without gloves on and I cut my hand off. Better to be safe than sorry!!
No glasses 🤓no gloves 😕...no roof covering.😠.. drivers open door card and glass getting covered in sparks😭 ...well done for your first a temp😝..on taking a damage panel off...as i spent YEARS at that... I no... seen glass destoryed by grinders...as for your eyes 😍and fingers 🤗U might have a second hand set in one off your minis 🤔...not a easy replacement😣..helo from Ireland...😉
Need to shield the rest of the glass to protect it from getting marked from the grinding sparks.
Safety glasses you only ever get one set of eyes 😉
Was thinking that one point he did wear glasses but then not also needs some thin decent gloves / rigger gloves to pull the quarter panel off save blood 😂
Plus ear defenders and metal dust / particulate mask

Nice one Sam. If only we all had access to an Alan. 🤣

Perfect way to begin my annual leave. Really looking forward to this build Sam.

Alan is an absolute star.
Yet again another top video!!! Keep up the work mate can't wait to see this one finished
Great video and well done on your first quarter panel removal. You did better then me with removing the glass as mine shattered. Look forward to seeing the welding part.
Nice one, looks so satisfying drilling out those spot welds. Good luck with this one mate!
Gloves, glasses and boots needed to play for a long time
Great progress, keep it going 👍👏👏
Good stuff! Its always a good idea to cover up glass when using an angle grinder
Be careful sam you are starting to look like a professional great journey 👍
Health and safety out of the window looks like on this ! ! ! I was cringing when you was cutting off the final part with no goggles or gloves !
You'll wish you'd covered the door glass and screen with all the sparks from the grinder 🙄
Exactly what i was going to say, sparks could possibly be on the windscreen too. They will stick to any glass they touch
@@jamesfraser1340 Yes i was cringing watching where all those sparks went, broke out into a cold sweat as he pulled the panel off bare handed...Gloves essential..
😬😬😬
I remember when I forgot to wear my work gloves and I cut my arm off
well done did a great job comming along nice
Good job their is plenty of minis as you will need the glass out of them as you have just ground metal into the good ones.
How come you not covered up the door panel and interior
Good start with the mini well done
Don’t forget your PPE. But a least you kept the guard on the grinder👍
Well done 👏 keep the videos coming!
How much would this cost?.

Well done sam 👏👏👏 such a time consuming job 👏
Top job well done 👏
Why on earth did you replace it?? I've seen loads of youtubes who pull out dents on quarter panels worse than this.

Again safety glasses when using that wire wheel, get good insurance too, lol
Nice to see you using the safety squint. 🙃

Great video really enjoying them, any chance you can show us on your next mini video how the remove the chrome belt without bending them please
U deserve millions of subs. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Never happening man 😢
could tell you had popped ye cherry on taking panels off you was holding it like a trophy haha no well done though mate
You should have also pulled out that arch before removing the rear quarter
Definitely.
Always always pull and knock out before removing the panel, you would have thought someone in that workshop would have kept him right.
Eye protection???
All the way through with the except of 9 seconds. Point taken though. Silly of me 👍

What would you do without big al
Exactly this. Learning everyday though. 🙌🏽
Cover the glass on the door all the grinding sparks will melt into the glass
Yes, it will come out in one piece! 😊👍

Rookie mistakes are the ones that cause thousands of pounds worth of damage and deaths
Fuel tank was bunged 👍
No burn marks located 👍
Precautions were taken- just off camera.
Appreciate the feedback. Thank you 😊👍

You needed to do much more masking of the interior and glass...the red hot sparks damage everything they land on 😳😳
Basic 101 stuff, can't believe he didn't do this.
I suggest you to use glasses and mask when you use your grinder and gloves to not injure yourself.. keep up the good work mate! 👏👏
the man above allocates 1 pair of eyes and hands protect them apart from that nice progress sam
Hi how can I get in touch with you to send you the spare key for the Mini.Coopet S ?
Hey, thanks for the message. I believe your son has via Instagram. Thank you very much 😊😊👍👍
Remember to cover your exposures when grinding

I think Allen knows how hard that qtr is to get off so buying a new one is more cost effective 😬
Let’s have a look at the damage...that’ll be your mincers mate. Safety specs mate 🙏
Sugar its like all minis have some one hit it on drivers side
Woman mini driver pulls out from junction and does not see incoming traffic. SMASH!
@@charliecoco2115 had to be a woman lol
Great work now get that welder going and fire in a roll cage and hit the track
You did well, I guessed no smash on window
should of pulled quarter first to help with inner arch repair
Great job 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Please Please Please wear the appropriate PPE . You can never be too careful. I remember grinding once without gloves on and I cut my hand off. Better to be safe than sorry!!
Glass out, yes if your good
Following on from others PPE is a must if you want to carry on with your channel. I couldnt watch when you pulled the panel off with your bare hands
Imagine a small Tesla motor under the back 35-40kw battery too...
You might wanna put on some eye protection the next time you use the grinder 😅🤓
Use hearing protection when grinding!
also noticed that you had your safety Squints on
May be a good idea to invest in some gloves, boots and overalls 🚘 😃
I was a bit taken aback on all those sparks near the fuel tank. Also no goggles or gloves. Not worth the risk.
Gloves and goggles mate Safety first
Ouchhh the poor glass, I suppose you will learn the hard way.
I think you are going to smash it
Phew...
Gloves tiger. Safety first
Can i send you some safety gloves ? As I thank you for the work o you RUclips channel?

Thank you. Yep understood. Hello Ireland 🇮🇪 🙌🏽🙌🏽
PPE ?
Safety specs cost about £1.50 but if you don’t have that sort of money I’m happy to send you a new pair of mine for free.
I think I give blood every time I work on a car. Must have had 8 pints by now!
Good job Sam but listen to the experienced subs that have left a comment about your eyes and the rest of the glass. Well done
100%. Always learning 👍
The Karen's are out in force 🤣
Your going to regret not covering the rest of the car when using a grinder on it
Exactly! Sparks and other crap also going into the car interior from the grinder will mark and ruin the materials.
Got same damage on my car u fix mine? lol
Lovely Jubbly, but please safety glasses and gloves when grinding.
Out in one piece
wear gloves and eye protection and cover the door cards against the sparks :)
Cutting / grinding next to an open filler neck 😬
*bunged filler neck, no?
Using a grinder without safety glasses unbelievable mate...
Well, well... Every well😉
I don't thing you'll get the glass out without smashing it 😅
I was wrong! Good job mate.👍
Get some gloves on , there's plenty of comfy gloves to save you that are great for these jobs , you soon get used to them
Never working on a car without a bit of blood to show for it 👍
why not just pull it and repair it?
Un spot weld 😂🤣😂
Nice job! Should really wear gloves though mate!
Love watching your videos but think you need bit more safety gear. Need some good gloves !
Get some gloves before you lose a digit! Costco sell some decent ones that you can actually feel what you’re doing while wearing them.
Might want to get some glasses
