I ended up with a wild turkey as a pet when I was growing up. We found him when he was just a few weeks old and was just walking around our yard up in Pennsylvania, he was out there for a good 7 or 8 hours before we realized he was on his own. Named him Charles and he would follow me around like a dog, even waited for me to get home from school and came running to the bus. Ahh memories lol. Had him all the way up until the day he died of old age.
Just curious
So you have turkey 🦃 in Thanksgivings?
@@Straydogsandcat I haven't had turkey since after I came across a mother hen mourning the loss of two of her chicks that were hit by a car, ugh I'll never forget that soul crushing stare I got from her...that was all before I got Charles by the by

This is why I *never* eat Turkey on Thanksgiving - trying to spare some lives. This just humanizes them to me

So true!😊👍

@@violetfem1808 I like your screen name. Also like that sentiment about sparing animals' lives. I really think if people got to know animals and realized what had to be done to them to become food, no one would ever eat them or their secretions again.
Pepper picked the right family. That coop was amazing!
It's astounding to me how intelligent these birds are! Not just that, but they are curious and affectionate too. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
This was why Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey as the symbol of America. But the eagle won out 🤔
Birds are known (scientifically proven) as highly intelligent creatures. Pepper is one good looking birdie!!! Thank you for loving her!

And your family rocks!
Pretty little girl you are
God bless you all!
We had a couple of pet turkeys. They were absolutely fearless and very intelligent. They would walk across the street and completely intimidate the neighbor's two Dobermans. The turkeys would puff up and strut, and the Dobies would cower. The neighbor would bring the turkeys home--- he'd pick one up and the other would follow. "Your birds are scaring my dogs again." I think Ben Franklin wanted the turkey to be our national symbol.
Yes, Ben was a pretty smart guy.
I loved to have seen that! Ha!Ha!
A game for the turkeys. They fly. How Did he expect you to discipline turkeys?
David your Turkeys intimate Dobermans story cracks me up. Happy that your neighbor seemed to have a fairly decent attitude about it and brought no harm to your beloved pets. Thanks for the chuckle! 🦃🐅😂
@David Snow. What a cool comment! Back where I grew up, we lived near the river on a County gravel road. Almost every day, there would be two turkeys walking down the road past our house. Then they'd walk back, real stately like soldiers. It was very rural there, so I never knew where they came from.
People don't give turkeys enough credit. They are A LOT more intelligent than many know! Loved Pepper's story. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks great I must say my dear,
Pigs are highly intelligent too....the two animals who are killed for the holidays? Hmmm.
i think all animals are a lot more intelligent than we give them credit for
@@vikkinicholson5880 They taste delicious. Can't wait until Thanksgiving.
Domestic turkeys will drown themselves if there’s rain.
typical dad project
"I'm just gonna build a small and practical coop, with some cheap leftover material, nothing fancy, max 3 hours and it's done."
Ends with a complete fullsize house :D
Next time get some ducks, then you can name it "Duckingham Palace" :D
You can always see a true animal lover when they love any animal no matter what
some people don’t realize birds form strong bonds just like dogs or cats. i hope one day i get to experience something like this!
Sorry but no. Cats are notorious for their lack of affection, and that's after thousands of years with humans. Dogs are as loyal as they are because they have been with humans for double the amount of time that cats have. Birds on the other hand don't really show the same levels of affection. They just know that humans give them food.
@@AtillatheFun sources for your statistics on specific animal EQ's or what you said is just worthless anecdotal evidence.
(btw I see that you really despise cats for some reason and feel the need to declare it on every video, so why don't you just grow up and stop hating on animals kid, you're just being pathetic)
Mani watch a video called an barn owls affection and come say that again
@@AtillatheFun I have a Turkey that would happily disagree. It can have enough food and water to last it a week and all it wants is to socialize, be loved on and told he is a very handsome fellow

She's beautiful and knows exactly who she needed to befriend to have the best domesticated/wild life ever. She's spoiled and loved. Lucky Turkey! 😁🥰😍😘
UGLY BIRD!
Is spoiling a good thing?
I think a certain amount of what some call spoiling is just our way of showing an animal that we care about them.
@@bethelam321 "spoiling is just our way of showing an animal that we care about them" you're out of your mind mate
Caring can never be spoiling
People become carefull to not to spoil

My mother had a pet turkey when she was a kid. That bird protected the property, the kids, and all the animals as long as he lived. Even attacked any shady figures that would intrude on his territory.
Thanks for helping This old veteran to smile this morning
I think Pepper knows she's special. I've had turtles, guinea pigs, gold fish, a rabbit, a dog and I'm on my first cat pair and I regret not having cat pairs when I first had cats. All of them and my two cats now are special. To have a pet to me is like breathing. I need them to survive.
Yes so true . I feel like that also .need a furry pet.
@@debbieacushing5536 hope you find one soon. When you find the right one you'll know it. It'll be love at first sight.
My mom and I always have discussions about this... I always had pets when I was young and I'm always longing for that type of relationship in my life these days. But I do have a busy life at this point and she keeps saying, "You know how much work those little animals were and all the vet bills we had to pay!? Nah, you don't want one."
I give in and admit that I'm too busy.
BUT I feel like animals totally give me more energy to function. Having a relationship with them is highly rewarding.
To me, anything rewarding takes work. You don't really absolutely NEED much in life... it doesn't mean that it makes more sense to go without constantly for comfort's sake... idk
@@luceatlux7087 you nailed it! Pets give me more energy to function! Until you said that I had trouble articulating how important having a pet is. It is rewarding to have a relationship with a pet. Makes one feel useful.
What is the difference of having a pet pair?
Pepper's so intelligent and cute. Animals teach us love, compassion, friendship and gratitude. Well done.
That a wild bird just randomly chooses a couple is pretty amazing in and of itself.

This is really cute. Kinda changed my mind about turkeys....didn't realize they had such lively personalities. (I'm already a vegetarian though.)
But they’re still ugly. 😉
I'm pescatarian... I love fish and seafood just toooo much I think.
@@deannamoore3352 small changes are important too. Even people who can't stop eating meat, just reducing the amount is already something. Unfortunately eating animals is already ingrained in us because of the way we are raised, so it's natural to have a hard time removing these from our diet. Also because a lot -if not most- of recipes always include animal products as well, so the change isn't easy for most. I'm also pescatarian but slowly trying to get into veganism. But I still believe that any bit of change towards reducing meat/animal products consumption is already a good step. 😊

Watching from Ireland.❤Delightful story, reminds me of the baby crow we rescued ,he grew up and all the neighbours knew him.He used to follow us to the local shops along the roof tops.He was also known to go in through open windows and steal shiny objects from the local houses. When he was about two years old he must have found a mate cause we never saw him again,at least that is what my dad told me.I don’t like to think something bad happened him.

God bless you for your love and care for Pepper. She picked her peeps ♥️
What a heartwarming story. How lucky you all are.
Thanks for letting us 'meet' Pepper. I love animals so much and I feel my life is more enriched knowing Pepper exists and watching what a special girl she is. She's your turkey 'daughter'. Family is so much more fun when you have animal 'kids'. When my parents were living my cats as an adult were my parents' grand son and grand daughter even though they were single cats at the time. My mother hated cats but she gave in bought me my first cat and loved her because she was mine and my second cat she loved him. I had gold fish and turtles as a kid and I knew they were treated like family when they passed and they had little funerals and dad would say the eulogy and he was very serious. It wasn't a joke at all. And my brother couldn't get a pet until we read animal care books and knew that the responsibility was totally on us. Mom had her second canary. Her first she had after she got married. Bingy passed before my brother and I were born so we never knew him. Mom never got another canary after Lovey died whom I was close to. It was so hard on mom when her canaries passed of old age she never got a third. So to see a turkey so much loved reminds me of home. Pets were family. They were kids to my folks and siblings to my brother and I. It's alien to me that pets aren't treated as family and spoiled no matter what they are.
Oh my gosh🙈 pepper is a pampered handy, helper turkey!🦃
Wow, that is special!
Such sweet people! And Pepper, too!❤
Lovely story. I love how they treat this birdie ❤️
May she live a long and happy life!
I can tell you this....both my turkeys lived long lives and when the first one died in his sleep on the roost, the other would not come out of the coop to eat or drink for 3 very long days.I was very worried about him cuz he was certainly grieving. No one can tell me they dont have feelings. Tom lived 3 more years than his brother and died at 13 yrs old.

SUCH A BEAUTIFUL STORY. I LOVE THEM ALL. GOD BLESS THE THREE OF THEM.
Aww
That pretty cool,
this instance reminds me of how a growing flock of wild turkeys became my grandfathers daily best friends at his retirement home.
Everyday 2 times a day he would go out to the storage sheds besides the rear parking lot and single car garage's, anyhow he would take
his giant bag of bird feed and feed these bunch of cuties that would emerge from the trees and forest to greet him with gobbles and peck
at the handfuls of tossed corn and seed.
He did this everyday until his 93rd birthday when he had a stroke then went to live with my auntie for what would be his final year.
Those birds and him brought so much.. to each other.
