They built out a dope roster for Brunson, so he took a friendly deal to allow the Knicks to hang on to the roster they've acquired. Cam Payne is just a veteran minimum deal to add another ball handler to the team.

For a mere $5mil they passed on bitadze, Andre Drummond, a lot of guys signed 2/10 deals. Knicks had $11mil and a MLE which means they can add a bit more contract if they use it. They also passed on nova S. bey 3/$19 mil WAS who’s terrible team. So they passed on everyone.
One last thing, regardless of why they passed on literally everyone, what is their thinking/plan? Mitch is maybe 50gms and 24 mins/nt. Randall and Sims are their only big men. Even if they add achiuwa he’s 6’8”. Something doesn’t make any sense and I don’t understand why the wait if they’re making a trade. Knicks can not go a regular season with Mitch, Randall, and Sims. It’s just not remotely enough beefcake and height.
