Great Update! Unless we can get a young center that we can hold for 3 years, I would hope we bring back Precious and give Scapintsev a chance as our backup center to start the season. Then we look for a mid season trade to get a solid backup Center for the playoffs.
Skapintsev was undeniably the Knicks' best player in Summer League. He deserves be the 3rd center of the team (considering that we will get one to be starter or 1st backup). With all respect to J. Sims, but this is the true.
@@dfacedagameRealistically more minutes does add to chances of injury. When players get exhausted there is more of a chance of injury when player is trying to play catch-up to other teams player.
I sure hope we get to see the duo of Kolek & SKAP playing with the other star Knick players in the Garden. They have great chemistry together on the court.
I liked Dmytro Skapintsev in Summer League...but remember, he was actually already given a chance by the NY Knicks when the team signed him to a 2-way contract back in December 2023. He played a couple games for the Knicks (in garbage time), but was waived by the team a month later in January 2024, where he was then re-signed to the Westchester Knicks in the G-League. But if he is signed to the main Knicks team this upcoming season, it would not be his first time on the Knicks roster. It would be his 2nd time on the roster.
Skaps is alright but a third stringer at best. He’s 7’1 and only 210lbs with subpar athleticism. He’s pretty weak and will get bodied against most NBA bigs.
@@Melbester9 - Exactly...but just one correction. At the time Dmytro Skaps was signed by the Knicks in December 2023, Mitchell Robinson (the STARTING Center) had already gone down with what was believed to be a season-ending injury a few weeks prior. My way too early predictions: We resign Precious, and for most of the season he plays backup centre with Skapintsev as the third string. Throughout the season, we let Kolek and Skapintsev develop while being mentored by Brunson + Payne and Mitch respectively. Around the trade deadline, I reckon we potentially put together a package including Precious, Payne and Sims for a better backup centre, as by this point Kolek and Skapintsev will likely have developed enough to be larger parts of the rotation. If it doesn’t look like Randle is going to resign, maybe they rework the package to include him and trade for a star like KAT, or a similar calibre player. Again, way too early to predict this stuff but I think it’s reasonable
The Duo of Kolek & Skap was so exciting to watch… they play very well together. Imagine those 2 on the court with the other Knick main roster Star Players.

Would it be great if Skapi stev could fill the backup center roll? Of Course. But that’s a complete gamble especially when our starter misses 30-50 games a year.

While the Knicks do need another center, it’s more due to needing insurance because of Mitchell’s health history. I don’t agree with your assessment on Sims at all. He’s more capable than you give him credit for. In fact, this upcoming season is when they need to find out whether or not he’s actually able to get the job done. Sommer league is just that, the summer league. What Skapintsev did was nice but it wasn’t that impressive. I’m not stressing over 3 inches. If you don’t think that Sims could have put up the same numbers or better, you’re mistaken. One of the Knicks most impressive games last season was in January against Denver. You know who was the starting center in that game? It was Jericho Sims and he’s actually a year younger than Skapintsev with actual NBA experience.
@@KnicksDaily Sims doesn’t need to be special. He needs to be competent. I believe that he can be competent. You don’t. Let’s look at some numbers. In those 32 games he’s only averaging 2.8 shots while making 2.1 of those. Extrapolate those numbers out to a full game and it’s close to a double-double. Not bad at all and better than most think. In my opinion, it’s time to give him more consistent time on the floor. We need to find out about him once and for all.
