Sir: I'm a Danner Premium subscriber so found this by watching with great interest your collaboration with him to reprogram the PCM in a 2005 Ford Escape about the end of January. Watching you use a Power Probe in this video is like watching ballet. I've considered buying one and this decides the issue. Please keep teaching us. This is important work. I subscribed to your channel.
Tron Duick thanks for the compliment. I’m working on more videos it’s just hard to film when your solo. I have a few to edit and hopefully more to film
I had similar symptoms and it turned out to be a bad transponder in the key itself and the security would not let anything fire. reprogrammed chip... works great. 2011 escape
Agree, 10000% expect I was so sure it was just a bad ignition switch because of how many bad switches I see. I did look at fuses once I checked the starter relay.
I have a customer that's aware his ignition switch is no good, but able to push key in and get truck to start, so prefers to live with the issue rather than spend the money to fix the problem.
Great video.... I am having the same problem with the no crank and knew about the key problem ... I wanted to ask if when you turned the key to try to crank, did you notice the ani theft light on a blinking fast? I tried a few things that were supposed to" reset" the antitheft looking to be locked, but nothing has worked yet. I guess what I am trying to ask is.. do you think a bad starter would have anything to do with the anti theft light blinking and no power? Thanks ..
Very interesting and informative video. Now, seeing I have the same problem just about what would you of searched out had you stuck the power probe on the trans and it turned over?
I have a 2010 mazda tribute same as for escape.the battery is good but i have not electricity at all just the anti theft light i have try everything but doesn’t work
Hi, I have a 07 escape automatic. It had a starter switch problem, start fine, but will not shut off after key is removed. Is there any ideas you can please pass? I am a 25 year tech in electronics, but not to much ignition switch problems like this. This will shut off when you apply a negative to the ignition. I really appreciate your time.
Hi. How did you test the starter with the control wire still connected to it? If the control wire is shorted it would also still trip your power probe ckt breaker. . .also i believe applying power directly to the load side (stud) of the starter solenoid will just pop the 15amp breaker of your power probe considering the starter uses well over 15amps
PP4 is rated at 30 amps. The same as the fuse. I assumed this would run the starter. Even if just for a second. The shop removed the starter by the time I billed and packed up. Judging by the light show from the jumper box hooked up and no movement it was shorted.
Also as much as I like the escape and was thinking of getting a newer one (11-12) they seem like a real mixed bag of surprises so I'm not sure lol. They're not that easy to work on either which is a pain in the ass!
sabrina cordell I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing until it doesn't help anymore. Then I'm going to replace the part! I can get it for a decent price and do the work myself so
sabrina cordell I'm not going to replace the switch, it's the steering lock switch housing that needs replacing. The one on it's lasted ten years. I'm pretty sure it'll keep working te way I do it for the rest of its life but if it doesn't I'll replace the part that needs replacing and it would probably last another ten which is more than I expect the escape to last. I'm not going to start grinding away at parts, and even doing that could just be a temporary fix. Thanks for the advice though lol
The starter should click if engine is seized. However, the starter was like 2 bolts to remove and tech pulled the starter out. My camera died or I would have filmed it in the bench tripping my power probe.
Didn't understand any of it. Maybe it made sense in your head, but I have no idea what you were trying to determine. Repeating gibberish, doesn't make it understandable.

excellent vid, I always check the fuses first if the box is right there in the open, whatever is the fasteset first is my philosophy on diagnostics.

Thank you for the video! I'm going through problems in the same area . Very frustrating thanks again.
Thank you Matt. Good job. I appreciate your videos.

I havent see the all video and alredy know that is going to be good like the other ones.. thanks for taking the time and teach us..God bless you.
Good work Matt we have all made those mistakes before
Exact problem on my ford escape! THANK YOU!!

Sound advice from a true professional Matt 😁
So because you had a short the power you sent via power probe went back to power probe?
Good video, and good advice on always following through! Glad you caught this one!
Very interesting and informative video. Now, seeing I have the same problem just about what would you of searched out had you stuck the power probe on the trans and it turned over?
Lol I had an 11 or 13 Edge that the customer had installed a new starter. It was shorted also blowing the exact same fuse lol.
Very helpful. I wish you much success.
Salut! Mon Ford escape 2010 ne voulais pas demare elle n’a pas ni stateur, ni alternateur. Que dois-je faire svp?
My car key got slightly cinched from apt anything I could do? 2013 Ford Escape
what is the difference between the starter and the ignition switch? further clarification. thanks.
I have a 2010 mazda tribute same as for escape.the battery is good but i have not electricity at all just the anti theft light i have try everything but doesn’t work
GREAT Diagnostics, Buddy. We all need to remember to work EASY to Hard. I think you need a Sherlock Holmes MATS Shirt in those Videos.........LOL
I don’t think I’m worthy to even hold one of them shirts. However, I am honored that you feel I am.
Feel free to mail one though. I will frame it 😁
Would you say this happens to the Mazda Tribune as well because it made by Ford
Great job Matt

Good you filmed it. Nice one
Hi do you know if 18x8 Wheels with 235/20R18 from a 2016 Ford Escape fit on a 2011 Ford Escape?

Nice. I always say spend a little extra time to verify the problem before jumping to conclusions.
Does the new key need to be programmed?
I have to push in on the one in mine every time or it won't start! It's a common problem with the ignition switches on these!
Also as much as I like the escape and was thinking of getting a newer one (11-12) they seem like a real mixed bag of surprises so I'm not sure lol. They're not that easy to work on either which is a pain in the ass!
Remove the cylinder lock and grind about a quarter inch off the little lip or ridge so the key rolls over farther Viola permanent fix for free.
sabrina cordell I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing until it doesn't help anymore. Then I'm going to replace the part! I can get it for a decent price and do the work myself so
You can replace the switch, and it might last a year. The cylinder lock on these is the problem, but good luck.
sabrina cordell I'm not going to replace the switch, it's the steering lock switch housing that needs replacing. The one on it's lasted ten years. How much for a job like this?
Good lesson here. Thx!
If you are not an auto mechanic this video helps you exactly ZERO amount ...
Would be good to bar the engine over make sure it’s not seized. Thanks for the videos!
I’m not sure if a seized engine would cause a starter to short like that. But figured it’s a possibility. Again thanks!

Mobile Advanced Diagnostics & Programming Awesome! Thank you! I figured but I wasn’t sure.
