Gertrude: Elias I need this suspicious amount of things that go boom or cause flames. Elias: Seems like a legit purchase for an archivist who spends their day surrounded by paper.
okay but I think one of the scariest thing about this podcast is that, for something based on the supernatural, it is terrifyingly realistic. The people who give statements are almost never acting stupidly in their situation. It isn't like a horror movie where you scream at the characters for being so idiotic. They're all normal people who do what most of us would do in their experiences, but yet things still don't usually turn out well for them. And that is pretty frickin Scary to me

The most comforting thing about this horror podcast is that there is always a solution or a way out for these people. If they were able to leave the statement at the very least they were able to survive, and I think that's what contributes to me being able to listen to this podcast without freaking out too much. The post statements are always so matter of the fact that even if they end up dead like a week later its okay lmao
Eh. When they are capable of giving a statement, its either that they survived, or they are still affected or 'cursed', so they end up dying soon after giving the statement. If they are unlucky, which they often are, the only escape from their situation is death.

Hi! It's 11:40 PM, just read this comment and realized that I've been listening to this podcast for 4 weeks straight around 10:00 PM-12:00 AM. Been a ritual lately... Hmm... Anywaysss i should maybe stop and start listening to this mid day before i get some creepy dreams.
My theory from this episode and what we know so far: The box had rules, like the coffin of "do not open" has rules too. For this box, the rules are to not touch its inside, maybe even not touch it at all. Salesa even tried to warn him afterwards, "don't fall asleep", so it truly was an accident, he didn't want for the witness to suffer like he did. But after he touched the box, Salesa was now in front of an opportunity to make a deal out of it, and the deal was with Lukas. I believe the witness's Alzheimer and the money Lukas gave to Salesa are connected, 'cause once the witness touched the box he became a potential object for sale as well, and whether he was indeed worth of a trade or not was solely dependent on whether he would survive the box's curse or not. I don't know what the thing of him that Lukas bought could have been though. Now, as I said the box has rules. You can't touch it. Once you do, the next time you fall asleep you then end up inside it. Since there are parallels with the coffin, I believe that the reason he shouldn't have fallen asleep was because, once he did, he actually sleepwalked towards the box and inside of it, like the witness in the first season almost did lots of times and how daisy's partner went inside the coffin willingly after he opened it. Once you enter the box, it works as a portal and you're in a different dimension; the fact that the witness has spend 4 days inside and his clock was working just fine with him while, in our dimension, it was only one night, proves it. What I don't know is why the witness was left out. Did he pass a "test" and was deemed to be released? Or did Salesa and Lukas freed him themselves in order to make the deal between them? From what he hear in this episode, I believe that there was a process going on in order for the box to fully "eat" him, like, the box wanted for the witness to reach a certain state or certain point, and only after that to fully "own" him, but Salesa and Lukas interrupted the process, which resulted in us thinking they saved him, but actually they just did it for their own personal goals. As for Gertrude, we were hinted that she was the one trying to find and buy the Leitner books from the first episode were they were mentioned, because that's where he heard for the first time the nickname "grbookworm1818". But that and her buying all these explosive items make us question whether she was trying to do good by obtaining the books so no bad guy will and using the materials to burn and destroy locations of the bad guys, or if she was trying to obtain power from the books and using the materials to destroy the ones who would be in her way. We also don't know if she was getting the books and the explosive materials as a pawn of a supernatural entity or as a player herself.
Did Salesa actually put him in the box or was it Lukas? The was Salesa acted after, and the warning against falling asleep makes me wonder if he just knew what was coming, rather than being the one who caused him to be put in there. Edit: I'm also VERY curious about whether his brush with... whatever that box was, is what caused Vincent to get hit with the Alzheimers, or if it's just natural...
He didn't cause it. It was a cursed artefact, and anyone who touches it in certain place gets transported into it when they next sleep. Notice how Salesa was careful not to touch the box when he helped the guy out. Then he and the captain made a bet on whether he was in the box, or whether he survived - no way to know which, but I'm guessing the latter.
So I'm standing here listening to the podcast heating up some mac and cheese and my sister is standing next to me waiting for the microwave when suddenly at the point he said "two shots of vodka" I hear her say "dumbass"
Seems like Salesa didn't want Vincent Yang to go through the horror of being in the box, he even warned him not to fall asleep. I hope we learn more about Salesa soon, does he hate putting innocent people through hell but is forced to?
It kinda takes me out of another plane of consciousness when I remember the characters can’t die because they have to survive to write these letters (only the writers, everyone else can die)

Kansas native here! I'm suprised that she went to Witchita and not Atchison. Atchison has a surprisingly large number of haunted houses in their area, including the infamous Sally House. I doubt this series would go to classic ghosties when they're dealing with this cosmic horror conspiracy. Still tho, Witchita???
The first time there was a leitner book the guy searched the name and found out someone w that username had bought one of his books called key of solomon or smth
Confirmed, She has the Leitner books, before those were taken from her, probably one of the stolen stuff when she was murdered. In burial rites, as an immortal, shots in the heart will end it. So the same goes for the archivists...???
Spoilers for MAG 181 It is very interesting to rewatch these episodes that deal with Mikaele Salesa (probably misspelled sorry) now that he's made an appearance in-podcast. He has a very different personality than I had originally pictured, but it fits quite well! I am sure he would enjoy being named alongside god and the devil as the third party.
I was thinking the same thing. He's a fascinating character to be sure. He cuts such an intimidating figure from everything we've heard about him and then he's all smiles and generosity in the apocalypse???
Lots of people named early on gain a kind of mystique because they're encountered by a terrified statement giver. Then we actually meet them, and that mystique evaporates. Leitner is _the_ best example. Both Jon and Gerard Keay have a built up, larger than life expectations of Leitner, but when they meet him, he's underwhelming and in Gerard's case he doesn't actually believe it's really Leitner.
So wait he got kidnapped in his sleep or teleported into the box/coffin? Wonder if this is the coffin from before and if the destination of it can change? 👀
Wichita, Kansas may seem like a random place for Gertrude to have visited, but as a native Wichitan I can tell you, that place is BIZARRE. Back in the 90s a bunch of high ranking Wiccans apparently convened to erect a "protective barrier" around the city due to some energetic shenanigans. I moved away from the place the first chance I got. Also, odd side note, Wichita has more crows than pigeons.
Literally, I mostly don't have an issue with being pressed in on all sides, but being stuck in an uncomfortable position without being able to move is something I've always hated with a passion
So Salesa has a creepy box and the moving men have a creepy coffin. Wonder if the two are related? I also wonder if Selasa might be with the Other. The mysterious mercant who sells you your doom? Sounds a bit like that guy from episode 2.
I find it hilarious that Jon has seemingly resigned himself to having Parker luck (although I have a feeling some of this is rather quite intentional given the few spoilers I’ve seen)
don't look at me ay, I like Salesa, dude was possibly wearing a tank top, had the sass to tell this man "go ahead and check inside" possibly because he either wanted Vincent to be proven wrong or simply to get this over with so he doesn't have to deal with some stupid papers, showed concern for the man and then *gently* lifted him out of the box. I wanna be gently lifted out of the box by Salesa too, not that box though
Which episode was selasa from, again? I swear. You gotta take notes for this series cuz I'll hear names and references from previous episodes but I'll forget.
I notice that Yang said he prayed to God, then the devil, and then Salesa. I feel like that foreshadow that Salesa may be some sort of entity of his own 👀
@@emilybarclay8831 other way around actually! :D Orient came from French and originally meant "point at the east". It first popped up in that meaning in English in the early 18th century, with orientate (with that same original meaning) first popping up a few decades later via "orientation" and people treating it analogously to "origination". (Back then "origin" could be used as a verb meaning the same thing as "originate" does today, but people did the same backformation to coin the word "originate", and in that case it displaced that usage of "origin" entirely.) And they both shifted to mean "point in a particular direction" about a century later at around the same time, which is also when you start seeing disorient/disorientate.
Idk this is my first time but could a lot of supernatural things cause high temperatures because they can often be destroyed by fire and they want to make the victims wary of heat? Like, the only cold (that I can recall) is from man-made or natral things. You lost me at "I could see my watch" after describing him in his pajamas in this one. Nobody wears their watch in bed, way too easy to either hurt yourself in your sleep.
I went to sleep cuddling my open computer, I woke up with my hand grabbing the screen tightly so it won’t fall. I know people who sleep with their inconvenient jewelery so this is plausible if you sleep like the dead and nothing bothers you.
Eh, Ive fallen asleep with my watch on plenty of times. Granted a lot of those times i was also falling asleep in my khakis and hadn't changed into my pajamas before conking out, but this is still very possible if you change clothes earlier in the evening. Wasn’t the GR Bookworm 1818 name brought up earlier on? Like in season 1 at the beginning?
The first time there was a leitner book the guy searched the name and found out someone w that username had bought one of his books called key of solomon or smth
In the episode, Pageturner!
thanks! I have claustrophobia now
Glad someone thought outside of the box
Confirmed, She has the Leitner books, before those were taken from her, probably one of the stolen stuff when she was murdered.
In burial rites, as an immortal, shots in the heart will end it.
So the same goes for the archivists...???
In burial rites the guy didn't die. You cant die as an immortal as far as we have seen.
Spoilers for MAG 181
It is very interesting to rewatch these episodes that deal with Mikaele Salesa (probably misspelled sorry) now that he's made an appearance in-podcast.
Its a wooden crate specifically being mentioned twice or thrice so I think not
The one dislike is from Gertrude’s ghost
The box shrinks, the time stretches. I'm wondering if there's some sort of dimensional conservation principle at work.
Your mystery comment for the day
Buried
think im beginning to understand what these mystery comments might be
Key of Solomon? Yeahhhhhh! Gosh I love it
As someone who lives near Wichita, why would she go to Wichita.
I second this
box go nom nom
Spoilers I guess...
- Heat
- claustrophobic , box get smaller
- artefact / Silesa?
- coffin from the street daisy ?
do you mean ''Salasa'' in ''celeaser''?
@@cezar3169 jup sorry for misspelling
@@flynland7366 It's fine. And this gonna sound awkward, it, but I also spelt mine wrong. It's actually Silesa... Sorry...

“Do not fall asleep”
“Wanna help me with that, sugar????”
and no horror accidents 🤔
Literally, I mostly don't have an issue with being pressed in on all sides, but being stuck in an uncomfortable position without being able to move is something I've always hated with a passion
Man it sickens me that people record themselves playing games and it gets millions more views than this amazing stuff you guys put so much effort into
Rusty Quill has a gaming podcast too...
Gertrude went to Nairobi? I don't think we heard that statement.
The Buried with some elements of The Dark
Buried and Dark go hand in hand like Stranger and Spiral. They’re best friends :)
So Salesa has a creepy box and the moving men have a creepy coffin. Wonder if the two are related? I also wonder if Selasa might be with the Other. The mysterious mercant who sells you your doom? Sounds a bit like that guy from episode 2.
I was brushing my teeth while listening to the ending and literally did a spit take when I heard her ordering... [Spoiler]
Litner Novels
Look at that! I'm from Nairobi. Now what was Gertrude doing here.
What a flex to stand there in the cold like that. Man is a menace
The box is shape shifting on the inside??? Weird...
John has fallen so far into paranoia he's now suspecting the motivations of a dead woman
I like that he respects Gertrud but also realised that she is not a good example to follow.
"mymurderer.avi"
I don't have claustrophobia, but after this many episodes of being trapped in small spaces I might have developed it
good guy salesa warning him what not to do at least
he was wearing a....what? a tank top? is that what he said? oh how I would have loved to seen the fanart after this episode came out
Literally
Not even a minute in and I know this one's gonna be a nightmare.
Customs is no joke. Not as bad as immigration but it's definitely up there.
I find it hilarious that Jon has seemingly resigned himself to having Parker luck (although I have a feeling some of this is rather quite intentional given the few spoilers I’ve seen)
This video's single dislike is from Michael
Samoa Joe should play Salesa in the inevitable TV adaptation.
don't look at me ay, I like Salesa, dude was possibly wearing a tank top, had the sass to tell this man "go ahead and check inside" possibly because he either wanted Vincent to be proven wrong or simply to get this over with so he doesn't have to deal with some stupid papers, showed concern for the man and then *gently* lifted him out of the box. I wanna be gently lifted out of the box by Salesa too, not that box though
Yeah Lukas
Weird sentence after someone will be alone and stuck in weird space

Which episode was selasa from, again? I swear. You gotta take notes for this series cuz I'll hear names and references from previous episodes but I'll forget.
He was briefly mentioned in ep 14, but has a bigger role in ep 38 (the homophobic vase episode). Since then he’s been mentioned a few times

ALRIGHT SO WE ARE JUST GOING RIGHT INTO THE DEEP END GOT IT
Seven minutes in and I am not sleeping tonight 😭😂
so captain lukas could have gotten his whistle from salesa gotchu
I notice that Yang said he prayed to God, then the devil, and then Salesa. I feel like that foreshadow that Salesa may be some sort of entity of his own 👀
is "disorientate" how folks in the UK say disorient or something? it throws me off every time and they say it so much in this series lol.
Disorientate is the original word before Americans shortened it. They’re basically the same word
@@emilybarclay8831 other way around actually! :D
Orient came from French and originally meant "point at the east".
Most supernatural things can apparently be killed by fire (vampires, the bug things, lightner books)
Idk tho it doesn't help that it's oppressively hot recently
You lost me at "I could see my watch" after describing him in his pajamas in this one. Nobody wears their watch in bed, way too easy to either hurt yourself in your sleep.
I’ve gone to sleep with kitting needles and actual scissors in my bed, don’t underestimate stupid
I went to sleep cuddling my open computer, I woke up with my hand grabbing the screen tightly so it won’t fall. I know people who sleep with their inconvenient jewelery so this is plausible if you sleep like the dead and nothing bothers you.
I literally never take off my watch
Eh, Ive fallen asleep with my watch on plenty of times. Granted a lot of those times i was also falling asleep in my khakis and hadn't changed into my pajamas before conking out, but this is still very possible if you change clothes earlier in the evening. Also im guessing it was more of a plastic sports watch with little to no pointy edges.
I remember reading a two sentence short story of someone waking up in a coffin and being buried alive. 😊
accidently open box. :|
