If the design principle is to carry multiple covert companions with different sets of tools in each, I think you should offer the handles in multiple colors so the sets will be easier to identify without having to open them. Also, that Riv-Pick is super cool, I'd have probably bought that instead of the genesis set just for the compactness.
Well in his example, he has one very thick and jam packed covert companion and the second one is significantly thinner with way less tools. If this would be the common use for multiple companions, I see no need for the varying colors. It'd be pretty obvious very quickly which companion is which.
Nice commercial, and I don’t mean that as an insult. I am not a picker or locksporter. I enjoy seeing your techniques and have made more educated decisions when replacing locks. Offering and demonstration of good tools is highly valuable.
If you ever decided to try your hand at lock picking, get the genesis set, and the titanium bogota picks. That will get you hours of practice and experience, and can open a lot of locks.
With more and more expansion options being added, I'd personally like to see more videos showing the step by step assembly of the covert compansion. The original tutorial video was fantastic, but at this point I think updated tutorial videos would be very helpful. Anyhow, thank you for everything you do, and have a nice day!
This is how a Swiss knife tool becoming a toolbox... I think it makes sense to redesign it into a organizer bag of compact tools. Possibly with a common attachable handle.
I Love my Covert Companion. Recently took advantage of the price break on 4th of July and got the dimple rake, and the bypass driver….just when I thought I had all the accessories, Boom innovation happens and now I’m ordering this new piece! Thanks for your time.
Good idea, offering a replacement handle for a more compact Covert Companion. If the complete set had gotten much bigger it would have required a CDL to operate.
Then he would have come out with a _Covert U-haul_ to carry it around in. 😁 H has developed an incredible business from his hobby and I wish him nothing but the greatest of success with it. He really is a very impressive gentleman especially his videos on April 1 each year. Those I really look forward to.
Me having my whole companion set up finally and Mr. Lawyer adds a new addition for me to fumble with 😂 lots of love for my companion and your videos! ❤
The Rivpick is a great solution! If you found a way to integrate a Chicago rivet onto it and made every tool on the covert companion detachable and usable for the Rivpick, I can imagine you’ve found a perfect solution to versatility!
I must have seen this new product on your site the day it came out & was wondering when you would have a video on it. Thanks again LPL for the great content!
I like it. The heavy handle did seem suboptimal. Also the Covert Companion was starting to get a little less covert, splitting it into 2 seems like a good solution as well :)
Just got the new kit today. Took me awhile to get it all put together. I kept having issues near the top with the parts falling off. Then I had an idea, I wish I'd had sooner. Get to top, then wrap a rubber band the whole thing a couple times to hold it all together. Then put the rest of the last couples tools and spacers onto the screws, then set the banded section on top of the screw section and to get it all together, then screw it down. Cut the rubber band loose when done. So much easier than trying to get everything together and constantly dropping bits when trying to put the handles together.
Love this update! I haven’t bought the covert companion yet but I would like to eventually. love seeing the iterations you went through before getting to this final design. Maybe consider selling that mini set with the picks and turning tools on its own
Absolutely. He’s limited himself to buyers that have a covert companion. That would be nice on a keychain by itself. Just need a turner. Many more people would be interested in buying.
Yep, the one safe as probably all safe manufacturers store the “master codes” for safes and will give them to law enforcement without a warrant, basically a phone call from Law Enforcement gets the codes. Pretty sad if you think about it 😧
Okay, I like this. I found myself going back to individual picks so much so that I hate the early CC. My most triumphant moment was building "the Pick Bosnian Bill and I made" from air fittings and stainless tubing. And it worked!
Me watching LPL start picking a lock full of spools with a minute left in the video: "Wow, he is cutting it a little close..." Alas! He finished with enough time to do a 40 second product plug and outro.
I am not a lock picker but I ended up buying the covert companion handle and adding keys and small tools to it. It's essentially a customizable multi-tool, which is rad. Would love to see other little additions over time (like pliers) but in the meantime, I can just fabricate small tools I need myself.
I feel like a full loadout of the Covert Companion is soon going to resemble "the Ultimate Swiss Army Knife". The CC is a modular system, just like a SAK. The only consideration is the length of the screw posts, and they have extensions. Victorinox has, for years, made a SAK with every single tool, they just use really long rods/rivets. It's totally impractical, but looks cool as a way to show off everything.
I like that you don’t rush into production and ensure the engineering concept is actually proven with actual usage and evaluation. Most manufacturers now days have the “close enough is good enough”, and you prove that’s even the case in the security industry with every video you release 👍👍
If I might make a suggestion, you might want to take a page out of the design of camping utensil pocketknives and design the covert companion to be split into sections by opening specific points. You could further improve this by making the splits tools that complement each other in split use.
Had me at "Hello..." I'm still assembling my Covert Companion that just arrived and there is already an upgrade. Now that's great timing. So, I just ordered two upgrade units just to be sure.😂 Also, I'd consider replacing that rivet with a threaded insert and screw to make this more flexible for what you could carry in it. A "mini" covert companion, if you will...
nice. I got the e-mail notification, and haven't had time to look it up. on an unrelated note, my wife realized yesterday that I identify keys by the bitting.
That Riv Pick would be good to have even on its own. It folds out and locks to the same footprint as a normal pick, it's like a smaller covert companion.
Love the idea, went to buy it... cheapest shipping was almost as much as the kit, $20, and I'll probably have to pay customs and duty on top when it gets here... I'll struggle on with my original covert companion and turning tool expansion...
Mine just came today - very happy with it. It's nice to have an addition to the covert companion that allows easy picking of more difficult locks; no additional practice or acclimation required if you're used to standard size picks. Previously, while the covert companion was a neat tool to carry, I knew it didn't provide me with the picking capabilities of an ordinary set of picks. Now the companion is especially awesome & a more-than-worthy EDC. The feel and feedback on this is more or less equivalent to a standard pick & any lock I have the skill to pick is pickable by it. My only complaint is that the pick is still allowed to rotate back toward the closed position; not a deal breaker but it is somewhat inconvenient.
I was able to use a cut-off portion of a thick plastic straw, it functions well as a 'sleeve' to prevent the pick from folding. While on the riv-pick, it still fits just fine in the covert companion. Awesome
Not sure where to reach out about this o.O 2 things/suggestions. 1, Make magnetic screws for this. Preferably poloraize them so that 2 different tools will always lock together in the same direction. The "Back" side of the companion could accept a shallow screw with a mag to let it attach to others. 2. This is a unique and weird idea O.O but add a nail file and cuticle trimmer to the mix. Not that I would use the trimmer o.O But it would allow me to justify my tool as "Nail care" far easier. I do use the hooks to clean under my nails at work enough that ppl now assume its for my nail polish hobby ;p Covert is subjective to blending in, anyone with nice nails could justify this remotely as nail stuff, remotely enough ppl do not look twice.
I guess what I am saying here is if covert is a consideration point in these tools, Sometimes carrying 2 or 3, with part lock tools and part general multi tool stuff, they would blend in. I can easily carry one with the scissors and screwdriver. Now o.O If I can keep them at 1 addon bar and "Mix" them o.O My "work like" tools are also paired with some parts, my actual keys are paired with another and to add more, nail care tools like a mini file etc O.O These would be purse justifiable tools no-one would question the other half O.O
I like this idea. One thing I'd suggest is instead of riveting it together, you could use a knurled nut and a screw. This would allow you to replace picks after they get damaged, and allow you to loosen the tension on the picks when selecting one to use, and tighten the tension--a pseudo-locking mechanism--after you've selected the pick you want to use. Just an idea. Not sure if there would be a problem doing that. After one of my picks wears out, I'm going to try modifying my rivpick, because there are different profile hooks that I like better than the 2 hook, so I'm going to try and replace that one. I've found that the jack knife picks from multipick fit pretty well into the covert companion, after you file the hole at the base of the picks to increase its diameter enough to fit snugly on the connectors of the covert companion pegs. I've been using CC with some multipick jackknife picks added to it for a while, and it works very well. One of my favorite things to carry around, and I've been able to get into most locks I encounter with it. Awesome idea though, and thanks! My riv pick just came in, as well as some other cool little CC additions--like the commercial door hook. I can't wait to play with them! My work just got a new building, so I'm going to do some 'security testing' for them. It's an excuse to play with my lock picks and people are usually curious to see if I can get in.
Nice! I'd been having trouble with this and trying to hold onto the short stem (I didn't have the locking mechanism one). Very sore fingers 😅. Awesome solution!
This helped illuminate the function of this better than the website. I felt like the website doesn't explain why exactly you might want to choose this if the Covert Companion already includes picks that can perform this function on their own.

Always be aware, that the person who is operating it and making it look magical.. practiced for YEARS. This solves my only complaint about the covert companion, that was that it is hard for me to use in the field when most of the locks I need to open are behind rectangular steel shields requiring me to kneel down and work up in the narrow approx 4”x7” space and the covert companion is more difficult to use in that circumstance compared to an individual pick or the small (also riveted but much smaller) pocket pick set I have. I’m looking forward to adding this.
Using it on an Abus lock is kinda unfair. Abus locks have become my comfort locks. When you figured out the trick and are accustomed with the paracentric keyway, then really open easily. Nice addition to the Covert Companion. When i have a bit of spending money, I'll definitely grab it.

Thanks. This is a perfect expansion. I need to go pick up a complete covert companion set. Probably a 2-3 handle sets too so I can keep things a bit more manageable.
With the kind of shitty business practices you see so many places(like videogames which is dear to me), i love to see this genuine care to improve a product even if it will never affect me.
Everything about your lock reviews and products seems genuine, this video just solidified that notion.
I hope one day you get rewarded with seeing a lock that leaves you in awe of it's ingenious design/security.
Damn I missed this when ordering other stuff from covert instruments yesterday
