    Nice review… I’m glad you like it. We went through so many design concepts, including a few that looked more “put together” superficially, but didn’t feel as good when picking, were too bulky, or otherwise compromised functionality.
    I test everything for at least several months before release, and the RivPick was the only solution where I didn’t wish for a “normal” pick whenever I encountered a trickier lock. It makes me happy to see another experienced picker appreciate its capabilities. 👍

    I've got a few things on the way from Covert Instruments including a Riv-Pick, along with the slim pickins companion, and a Genesis set. Thanks for the tip on the Marathon oil liquidation locks! I just jumped on eBay and picked up 4 of these for ~$9.40 each and the liquidator is offering free shipping so very good deal! I haven't picked as a hobby since probably about 2005 or so. And have only had to use it twice to help out family members between then and now. But now that I see that LPL is retailing his own Made in USA tools I just had to pick up some stuff to add to my old Southord sets.

      Got it a few days ago and could t be happier with it. I been deciding between the C.C. and the Dangerfield jackknife for a while and the rivpick kinda put it over for me. Plus having infinite expandability is great too. The Dangerfield has a great selection of pick BUT can only hold like 8 pieces at a time I think... I'll probably still pick one up at some point but I'm VERY happy with my CC.
      I also picked up the turning tool expansion kit, the dimple rake and the bypass driver on top of the rivpick. Worth every penny imo.
      And thanks for the heads up on the blueprint bro, it's still a bit of a nightmare to assemble but the blueprint certainly helps.

I have a metric fuck ton of Multipick turners and they are nice. I have all of the Sparrows turners and they get the job done. Currently, I EDC a Covert Companion and a Genesis/Arbiter combined kit. I love the bypass tools of the CC, but I’m a Yellow/Orange Belt (depends on the day, lol) and picking with the standard CC is really hard for me.
    I plan to buy 2 sets of the Riv-Picks and 1 extra set of the Covert Instrument turning tools. One of the Riv-Picks will go in my CC which will mean I can remove the Genesis picks from my Tradecraft case and replace them with a few other tools (half-diamond, snake rake, city rake).
    The other Riv-Pick and set of turning tools will be rubberbanded together and carried on days when I don’t have the pocket space for even just the CC.

    I woudl love to know in what order you organized all the expansions for your Covert Companion. Some orders seem to work better than others. thanks for watching, i was unaware when i received all the tools that there were 'blue prints' on the covert website. so it took me a good 2 hours to get mine together. it works perfectly for me. i would highly recommend the blue prints though as they will be more functional, so lockpicking lawyer has a video on assembly. an assembly video would not fit channel at this time as I primarily do reviews. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it.

    • @GummiSammi
      @GummiSammi 10 месяцев назад

      @@sandman_locksport appreciate the insight. Funny enough, I’ve watched all the vids from LPL as well as CI. Their blueprint dies not take into account the FU Pick… I mean Riv Pick. The riv pick was designed with same spacing tolerance as the tension tools expansion, which is designed to go on the far edge. The stem for the edge piece is shorter than the stem extenders, which means if the Riv Pick is installed in the middle, it will not have enough tension to hold the locking mechanism “locked”. You seem to have your tention and riv pick each on the edge of the CovComp, which I think is the superior position for ease of deployment and clearance. I was curious how you managed the spacing.
      I wasn’t expecting an assembly, just a better view of what order you have your tools. I subbed. Maybe I’ll catch one of your vids featuring the CovComp again for reference.
      Great vids.

      @@GummiSammi thank you for watching. It definitely seemed like a good idea to put the tensioner on one side and the pic on the other side. I don’t know how I came up with that. It’s just something I did but it works perfectly and everything is held in place. Also, I ordered all of my tools in order from bypassing to Lock picking. I just put every tool in an order that I thought would make sense, like from thickest to thinnest. I definitely don’t wanna take it apart. Lol. Two hours is no joke.

    I'll definitely be adding this to my covert companion. Picking using the pistol grip like LPL does was always a bit awkward.
    I'm a fan of jackknife picks. More from the collection aspect than the actual functionality. If you look at any others, I recommend the lockmaster jackknife. It is the best one I have tried from a functionality standpoint. I like the multipick, but the ~0.020" picks are pretty flimsy in cheap locks like masterlock that need a bit of force.

    • @sandman_locksport
      @sandman_locksport  11 месяцев назад

      Thank you for telling me. I’ve had my eye on the multipick jack knife, but if you say that they are flimsy, I believe you. SS420 is not very stable to begin with. At least I assume that’s what they would make it out of since that’s what they make the rest of their picks in. It’s a decent steel for thinner picks, but it does bend. Thanks for the info!

    • @kstogie
      @kstogie 11 месяцев назад +1

      @sandman_locksport I still like the multipick. It just requires more finesse and would not be great for a new picker. It works well for European style locks with paracentric keyways and higher tolerances that require less turning force. The pick tips are easily replaceable, so bending one is not a big deal. The unit is also very thin as a whole and fits well into the fifth pocket of a pair of jeans.
      The lockmaster is 0.6mm (~0.024") which works in all of the most common keyways here in the states. The added stiffness allows you to use more force on locks that need to be manhandled a bit. It also provides better feedback, which is where jackknives really struggle, in my experience. Because of this, I would choose the lockmaster as an EDC if I were to carry one.
      I also have the RCS jackknife and SouthOrd, but don't recommend those. MadBob's is really well constructed but is as much a work of art as a pick and is no longer in production.

    Certainly an interesting product. Regarding your discussion of pick steels, where did you find the source that CI picks are made from 301 HY and this set from 301 FH? I can't seem to find any information on it, and would appreciate some further reading on the matter.

      I contacted CI directly. The first 2 years of production they were made by Southern Specialties in Georgia as you already know, and they were using 301 Full Hard. Their 3rd year of production, CI moved manufacturing to in-house and with collaboration with other members of our community I won’t name here, they went with 301 HY. Robert is a good point of contact with CI if you need more info. This set however is 301 full hard. My contact at Southern Specialties told me they still have the left over pick sets from the original contract so there are no longer 301 full hard in supply at CI to my knowledge, all current sets should be 301 HY. I’ll send you a PM on discord.

    Hey Sandman, what all do you have in that Covert Companion? I have one but it does not have as many tools as yours and mine includes the expansion kit.

      I have every accessory in it, except the harpoons, or whatever they are called, that kill locks, you stick it in the keyway to kill the lock. I have no use for that so I dont think I'll get it. but we'll see. Thanks for watching!

    Your outro music is obnoxiously loud when compared to your talking voice during the video.
