- Ever wondered what you can swap into a classic but still looking great chassis like the RX7 ? Either FC or FD , both are still awsome chassis for drift or track despite having the 13B. Honda S2k AP1 swap is the best in my opinion. It's powerful, revs high, reliable, lightweight, and easy to modify.
The next best option is a 1JZ or 2JZ swap, but it's more expensive.
I might do that when I buy my own fd 😁
On 86 yea this can take 500 to 700hp nicely
A K24/20 would be better than the F20C/F22C

Still a fan of the SR20DET swap as it keeps the weight in check and can still be tuned for 600hp. The RB26 is downright violent in this chassis and I think the 2JZGTE has too much weight to maintain any fluid driving. The LS swaps remind me of a 240sx with an RB swap, essentially, if you wanted to drift that car it was no longer an option... unless you throw bricks in the trunk
Somebody doesn't know that engines don't really dictate how well a car can drift... yes weight can affect it. Any sn95 mustang or catfish camaro or I guess u never heard of the 88-93 5.0 Foxbody Mustangs? rb26 swap rx7 can drift It's about the set up. You can technically drift a semi truck too
I understand not wanting to ls swap an rx7 but the whole weight argument is absolutely insane. I've been in iron block 5.3 swapped rx7's and weight distribution is not a problem. Not even close. Those cars all handled amazing. Nose heavy never popped into my mind. Of course suspension and dialing It in is a process some people dont take much time with
I waant to find more about that F20C swap, or other people who did that. One of the best engine from every single aspect imo, and much lighter than the rotary (a great engine too but i want realibility as well since i want to be low on maintenance cost).
I am not gonna lie, I wanna swap in, something new, but I am not sure what I should do or the costs involved because first time for everything, I wanna do a 4AGE in an FC, would be cool
I would look for an alternative of 4AGE because it is a very slow and old engine, the chassis of the FC is also much heavier than the AE86. Look for 3SGE Beams or Honda's F20c
Does anyone agree with me that watching people doing doughnuts is a boring endeavor? It doesn't take alot of skill, my grandmother could probably do it... She's been deceased for about fifteen years. That and also for the fact that it completely muffles the sound of the exhaust which is what we want the most. Hearing tires get burnt off is not unique to the specific engine swap last time I checked..btw, my favs are the 3 and 4 rotors.. man they sound delightful
I agree Grandma or even a five year old can do donuts. Boring and a waste of a conversion. I like seeing a balanced high horsepower car, definitely not a donuts car that can be done with a go cart.

The 20B in my opinion is the best way to go because they’ve got that 26B beef but are still as reliable as a 13B ( as long as it’s not 700HP+ )
Any Rotary beyonds 500hp isn't reliable though.Yet it is overpowered
@@zeeks4338 no, the Mazda 787(b), the infamous Le Mans Group C car had over 670hp and it beat every other Group C car in the 1991’s running of the 24h Of Le Mans because of how reliable and light it was. You’re being blindsided mate, just because you see some idiot with a 500hp RX7 that constantly revs it and blows the apex seals every 2 seconds doesn’t make rotaries bad at all. 2 strokes have always been known to have issues when they’ve not been warmed up properly etc while also performing just as well as 4 stroke engines with DOUBLE the displacement, so in reality, rotaries are incredibly good for what torture they suffer.

Im a strong rotary lover and fanboy, no shame but Im curious about something. Would it be possible to swap a boxer engine from a Subaru or a porsche into an fd or fc? Odd question Im sure but curious. That or even a s2000 motor. Again, simply just curious. Id never do those swaps just wonder if they have been done. 🤔
i think people have done the s2k swap, see 8:08 as an example, but a boxer swap seems really cool

@@josemartinez280 If yiou have never had a Rotary... Then don't down them. If you had one... Then you probably were careless with it. Rotaries are dam good if you know how to service them properly.
I've got a much crazier swap in mind once I can finally do it. Probably will be the only one like it and it will be the perfect motor for the RX7, the sound of this motor matches the styling of the rx7 perfectly

If you want to swap for pistons.. Then keep it Mazda.. Drop in a L3-DVT from an MPS or KL-ZE with a Turbo.. Personly I'd keep the it Rotary.. Who wants a beautiful future classic that has some kinda fucked up identity issue and is basicly abit off this car mixed with a bit off another car.. When people see an RX7... they want to hear that unique Rotary bark..
Anybody ever heard of a Mazda V6 engine swap? Say from an 04 Mazda 6? I know a V config is wide, but it seems a decent choice if the engine is doable and moddable. IMHO, an inline config seems the best overall and one engine in mind is from the Toyota MR2 SW20 I think. Can take a lot of mods, but is kind of hard to get.
Yeah or the Honda J series motors. Might have to shave shock towers.

My dream rx7 build would be a simple 2gr-fse 3.5 v6 from a lexus is 350 with a trd supercharger with like 400whp 😭 one can dream

A popular mod to go along with a piston engine swap is to cut some holes in the floor so you can more easily drag your knuckles on the ground.

A popular mod is to get rid of that oversized air pump called a wankle engine. Its almost like theres a reason people swap them. To each their own, but at the end of the day don't get mad when the guy who did a swap beat you. If anyone wants to say an LS is a bad swap needs to stop circle jerking over their 20b they will never afford and understand its a price to performance thing. Personally I'd sr20 swap an FC because I like 4 cylinders buttttttt that's just me.

No one swaps a rotory into another car, you can but when you could swap a reliable ls no need. Ford and Mazda have a partnership and in a way Mazda is Ford.
No matter what you swap in, it aint gonna be cheap. sigh

The rotary engine is the best thing about an rx7. Thanks to the EPA they killed the best engine there was.After 100000 miles I just street ported and overhauld my engine. Sans all air pollution this thing now kiks ass. O yes I also owned 4 corvetts. Love my 30 yr old rx7
I agree with you on the rotary, however thats not only distinctive quality of the beautiful rx-7, its light weight chasis and design accounts for the perfect machine , the handling is definitely top tier , I'm gonna say top five atleast.

People hate on it but it’s literally the best bang for your buck over any other swap. Parts everywhere, most shops know how to work on them, and you can make mad power with just bolt ons

but i think they swap it because of the APEX SEALS..
just to minimize the maintenance cost of the car...
and the BLOWN APEX SEALS can cause damage to the engine...and an engine replacement is a must...
@@CULTmk I think he's trying to say that a pit bull is a high maintenance dog and a rotary is a high maintenance engine because you'll have to have an engine rebuild every 4 or 5 years if you're lucky and don't drive it hard.
But what if you are the easy laid back owner who loves rx7s loves rotary engines but with its issues and cost problems you may just want to swap it for now? There is nothing wrong with that you want the looks but can't afford the daily of using a rotary engine

Why turn something as beautiful as an RX7 into a sketchier Vette, Skyline or Supra?
Because it's their car, and they can do whatever they want with it. If they want to drop an LS, 1JZ, 2JZ, or any other engine into their RX-7, they can. You don't have to like it; it's not your car. So don't say that a car is ruined just because the owner decided to put anything but a rotary under the hood.
Because nowadays it got extremely hard to find a cheap Rotary engine for a good price. I personally love the Rotary engine, but the moment it breaks it basically means out with the rotary and in with a different engine.
A beautiful rx7 deserves to be driven for hundred thousands of miles. Not sit on a garage waiting for an engine rebuild. Rotary purist are really the communists of the car scene.

In my opinion the FD3S is the most beautiful car in existence and in few years i’m going to own one. I just don’t like the rotary engine. I get alot of shit for saying that i’m going to swap it when i buy it but it’s my car. Not yet decided what i’ll drop under the hood but when i do... it’s gonna be great.

If your engine swappin a rotary car, there is no reason to buy one in the first place. Just go by another car with a piston engine. The whole point of the rx is the rotary.
