it's actually really funny to me that some of them still managed to get to the OU status under the right circumstance; like empoleon staying in gen9 OU until the dlc dropped, the nido's carving themselves a niche in gen4OU for nidoqueen and gen8OU for nidoking, and hydreigon managing to be viable in OU in every gen he was in despite the greater power lvl and the abundance of fairy type. Like ppl forget that for a while; hydreigon and nido were real threat in gen8 OU (and nido still is).
The nidos also have a very unique combination of traits that make them fit well on some teams :resistant to stealth rock while able to set them up, immune to poison and can absorb toxic spikes. A unique and valuable set of traits!
UU is probably the most fun tier in gen 9, with a combination of great and fun Pokémon in the tier. I used to be a UU main back when I was more into competitive singles, and after playing some games here and there this gen, it makes me want to get back into it.
Crazy how much the paradigm of uu is shifting in gen 9. All of the pokémon in this video are either ru or rubl now, and will probably continue to dominate ru like they did uu for the next few gens. I imagine if crobat and nidoking were in sv, they would probably drop as well. Meanwhile a new generation of uu threats like Garchomp, scizor torn t look to tear up uu from now on. It’s all in the cycle of powercreep
When I think of mons that have been consistent UU warriors over the years the first one to come to mind is Arcanine personally. It’s still a UU staple now if you count the Hisuian variant
I wonder; are there any examples of a pokemon that would be balanced in a lower tier but is used often enough in OU because of some niche or utility that it can’t drop to UU. The only example i can think of is quagsire occasionally rising into OU to check/counter a specific prominent threat in previous generations like gen 6 and 7
It happened with Azelf in Gen 6 because of Hyper Offense meta shifts at the time where it fit well on that playstyle so it ended up in OU when the generation ended. Not sure if that fully counts lol.
Maybe a bit niche, but i think it would be cool to see a top 10 best or top 10 longest serving BL pokemon. By nature of being too good for the tier below but not good enough in the tier above, they pretty much end up as banned pokemon and get used less than even pokemon in PU. Pokemon like Staraptor and Alakazam spring to mind.
back when i first started playing showdown like 3 or 4 years ago one of my favourite mons to use in gen 4 ou (which was my first metagame) was choice band crobat. immunity to eq and near immunity to cc give it lots of entry points, and even if your atk isn't the best there are very few things that can repeatedly switch into banded stab brave bird or u turn
The 98 speed really hurts Hydregion too. Not only by being outsped by all the 100 speed mon, but especially by Garchomp which can 1-hit it and cleanly outspeed those 100s.
I was UU tier leader a couple times back in gen 7 and my teams always had entei, suicune, and whimsicott on them. No one expects a choice banded stone edge to OHKO their chandelure😂. And the other two are just super annoying
Speaking of non ou pokemon you should try a screen setter/trick set for grimmsnarl. I’ve actually gotten some great usage out of this set in ou. Though it’s probably only cause no one really expected a grimmsnarl to pop up in gen 9 ou.
Defog on flying type pokemon may SEEM like an anti-synergy, but the majority of hazards are grounded, and i think that's what gamefreak was thinking when they gave it to flying types Granted, stealth rocks is probably more prevalent then they predicted. Still, it makes sense why flying types would have the move
I wish swampert got regenerator as his hidden he’s an axolotl which are known for their ability to regenerate limbs so it makes sense and it would given him something to make him stand out.
Nidoqueen's long-felt presence in Gen 2 UU puts her a notch ahead of Nidoking, in my opinion. I think I would've included Togekiss if it existed in SV and stayed relevant in Gen 9 UU. Mandibuzz is really close to making the all-time UU list. As far as legacy picks go for this list, Gligar and Blastoise are sensible candidates. Scizor and Tentacrul are tough to judge b/c they historically had dodged UU for about as many generations as they had primarily played. I hope Lokix sticks around UU beyond Gen 9. Nihlego seems like it could land back in UU whenever it returns, too.
I'd personally place Nidoking higher due to longevity and it seemingly always having a spot on any team from my observations but overall another banger

I wish swampert got regenerator as his hidden he’s an axolotl which are known for their ability to regenerate limbs so it makes sense and it would given him something to make him stand out.
Just finish defeating the robot master in MM2 and i was going to beat Wily's ass, but Frezai's video is a major priority
missing my boys tentacruel and venusaur in here 😔still a good list, though. happy to see the king and queen get recognition
It feels weird saying Krookodile was power crept, since the examples of better pokemon you gave were from the same Gen or earlier.
Swampert the definition of team fundies we love to see it
I played too much 6/7 in my life; I expected Sciz, Ape and Lati to be really high haha;
Great list bro
120% potential thumbnail
I'd personally place Nidoking higher due to longevity and it seemingly always having a spot on any team from my observations but overall another banger
All these are now RU or NU because of the insane power creep. We really need a complete balance overhaul over all generations.
@@misteral9045they already found a solution. Dexxit and injecting old pokemon with buffs Into the meta. If a small group of super fans had something like showdown or a romhack they would make an effort to balance all 1100.
It seems weird to call Krookodile power crept (especially when you mention Lando, considering they came out in the same gen)
Great video! I want to see more of these lists :)
I use a Focus Energy Hydreigon to throw out guaranteed crit Draco's with Razor Claw with Flash Cannon and Flame Thrower to deal with the Fairys and Steel Types Draco can't hit I also make it Tera Steel to get rid of the x4 Fairy Weakness and to get Stab on Flash Cannon not to mention that Hydeigon is immune to Ground with Levitate
A big aspect of tiering is competition as well. Flygons a great mon, just doesnt match up as well in the meta as other grounds in ou
This thumbnail looks like hydreigon nidoqueen and slowking are bringing out 120% of their power
I love how every Pokemon on this list is an RU staple, either now or in Gen 8, except for Nidoking and Hydreigon (the latter of which is RUBL).
They should add a tier between UU and RU. SU, sometimes used.
“forward facing Krookodile isn’t real, it can’t hurt you”
forward facing Krookodile: 11:24
Hydregion also suffers from Dark not having a good special attack. Dark pulse is kinda underpowered nowadays
Dont forget the old UU standard Staraptor!!
I would love an item that boosts the physical defense of pokemon. Name it Riot Armor
This is the first vid I’ve ever caught in under a min I love I freezai be the best ❤
Why wouldn’t staraptor be on the list (definitely no bias)? Isn’t it banned in every gen’s UU except for SV that it’s been in?
That’s the thing staraptor wasn’t in UU in any generation it’s been banned so it got disqualified, that’s like(although exaggerated) mewtow is the best OU mon as it’s bees banned in every generation
For me I think Maushold is very underrated now
Idk if you can call krookodile powercrept when all your examples existed in the gen it was released in. Its slightly overshadowed by other pokemon, its just not all powercreep
Hydreigon HARD carried me through my first natdex draft league
The fact that Swampert is an Axolotl pokemon and doesn't have recover or regenerator baffles me.
Blastoise should have been on there. Both base and mega have been good in uu far longer than milotic, cobalion, krookadile, hudreigon and more 🙌🏻
mamo will always be my fav uu mon
Feraligatr should have been on here. UU for most of its life, has had niches in OU acting as a second gyardos, became better gyardos in later gens, and is all around good, but not good enough for OU. It should have been at least an honorable mention.
Actually, gen 9 UU is the actually OU, Gen 9 OU is an ubers wannabe
Its funny that a temp6t clip made it into this
It may not be #1 on the list but swampert’s is such a GOATed pokemon
Staraptor was going to be on the list, but it got banned before that.
In older gens, could it be possible to use Slowking just as a Slowbro, with 252 HP and 252 Def EVs? It's like running a Slowbro with 12 Def EVs, but keeping the Bold nature, in order to put some EVs in Sp.Def.
Justice for Wo Chien!!!
Ok hold up, you showed Haydunns flygon "goggles" get KO'd at 10% but what y'all didn't see what flygon take out Ogrepon, Glimmora, Sylveon and Metagross before that!! Just wanna give the best boi some love
Are you kindding me??? Really, this has to be a joke why wasnt scizor here?!? Its has been the most consistant and one of if not the most best most consistently used mon in last 3 gens of uu,scizor survived those power creeps and never fell even making ou debuts yet you didnt even mention it
No one talks about NatdexUU but it's a great tier
These are the “top 10 Uu Pokémon of all time but none of them are actually UU in scarlet and violet, OR national dex
Great vid!
What about Arcanine? he's been UU for most of his existence and it's great both offensively and defensible
What's the track that plays during the Swampert section
