The 2024 Toyota Hilux GRS 4x4 from Australia has now landed on Philippine shores, and it is equipped with mechanical upgrades that can go head to head against the Ford Ranger Raptor. In this Filipino Car feature, we take a tour of the 2023 Toyota Hilux GR-S 4x4 to see what sort of upgrades we can expect from the 2024 Toyota Hilux GRS 4x4. The 2023 Toyota Hilux GRS price is much lower than the Ford Ranger Raptor, but the 2024 Toyota Hilux GRS has more power and a higher payload capacity. The 2024 Toyota Hilux GRS also has Toyota Safety Sense now, a first for the Hilux here in the Philippines. This makes the 2024 Toyota Hi lux GR-Sport the best midsize pick up truck in the segment now. The only area where the Ford Ranger Raptor is ahead is the cabin space, but a tighter cabin is easily matched by Toyota Hilux GRS reliability score.

From the front the GR-S looks good. Side profile with those tiny street oriented tires, just looks half baked (and is actually half baked). Guys it’s not the wheel size, it’s the wheel/tire combo size. looks like 31”? The worst thing is the huge moldings on the side really accentuate how small the tires are. Sorry it does not look right. First thing everyone will do is spend 150k on a set of wheels and MT tires then will look great (but destroy your warranty on any suspension/driveline issues) I just wish reviewers would call it as it is. half baked. As for the Raptor, no V6 that’s fine. However a tune to 250HP should have been very easy for Ford to have done. The wildtrack with the same engine and tune will be quicker than the raptor due to extra weight and bigger wheel/tire size of the Raptor. Pls do the trucks properly in all areas guys especially when we have to pay 100’sK over.

I think ang 2024 hilux grs mas bagay pantapat sa previous gen ranger raptor, hindi yung current since yung next gen raptor bago chassis tapos yung hilux luma na yung chassis

Raptor is is way better in technology, better interior, ride comfort, suspension, tire size, overall size and ground clearance, engine refinement and lower noise and vibration. Better seats and infotainment for Raptor

Sir I’m really Sorry to bother you pero reliability depende yan sa maintenance we own a 2021 ranger raptor here and 2013 ranger XLT still all caused never problems because reliability does depend on how you maintain your vehicle if your like a abusive owner who doesn’t care Toyota would still break down

There is a recall for this pick up truck. Free to change the possible faulty sports bar . The part replacement cover 3244 units which sold from July 27 to april 24 this year in Philippines. Announcement made by DTI, the notice was posted june 10, 2024, this was news from inquirer June 28, 2024
Still the best and reliable! With a 2.8 L engine how far it could reach a litre for kms?
It may be too wide for some narrow streets or alley ways and parking sites in philippine urban areas and cities. Need to take note.
Like the Ranger Raptor, they are designed for off-roading, not for city driving, its the Wildtrak or the Conquest for that.

Not really same issues at same mileage as other utes,anarok and raptor proven to be way more reliable
Sa lahat ng reviews ng hilux grs, parang lumalabas na ranger raptor ang benchmark na tinatapatan ng grs. Hilux is known for its reliability and not much with performance. GR badge is respected for their ranks in motorsports. Hilux is best choice sa mga hindi nagpapalit at sabay tumanda sa kanilang sasakyan.
80's pa lang may hilux na. Un iba umaandar pa din hanggang ngayon. Subok na ng panahon i choose japanese brand pa din. Pagdating sa reliability and maintenance cost. Ndi naman need ang technology kung pang offroad tama si sir reygan mas mataas ang load limit ng hilux

The GRS is essentially just a regular old hilux with new bumper and oversized fenders and a little upgrade of the old platform. Its not even close to compete with the New Raptor which is on different level such as beefier underchassis, suspensions, stronger body frames and lots of technology and safety tech that the GRS has none.
The GRS is comparable only to the Ranger Wildtrak.
But I will buy a current GRS today if I have the money to use as a good looking hauler because of the rear leaf spring and upgraded rear brakes.. but for my daily all around pickup truck or for off-road I will buy a Raptor for it.. the raptor is made specific for off road if you compare the body, underchassis, suspension and transmission to the GRS. The GRS is refreshed only to cope up with its ageing platform and offer some other choice for toyota lovers.
Its not that I dont like the GRS, I like to have both but if I can only have one pickup then then raptor is for me. And if you are a fast driver in the highway, try driving the raptor and GRS then ypu will see that the raptor can drive super fast at hard corners without worrying that it will stumble, while all other competitors feels like it will roll over if you hit hard and you cant feel the road .. its just a better designed car overall..
If toyota would really make the hilux competitor, why not complete the hilux. Put on some AT tires, upgraded shocks like fox, lifted a little higher, baja modes and the like. To me it only seems that toyota have put a bigger cladding to make it bigger and costly 😂😂

i have a Toyota Tacoma gen3 here in the US a hilux version. I still love the old looks of the Hilux more tough looking and not over exaggerated look. And for sure some off roader fans are going to throw some of the outlooks of the the Truck. Just saying. 😊

Imagine having a near perfect pick-up truck except for the stock tires. Come one Toyota, you could've done better. I've seen a lot of owners immediately switching out those lousy stock tires you have on your Hilux for an All-terrain Goodrich tire etc., the minute they get their units out of the dealership.

Hindi naman apples to apples na maicompare mo ang toyota hilux vs Ford raptor. Ford Raptors are full sized pickup trucks while Toyota Hiluxes are midsize. For apples to apples comparison it should be Toyota Tundra TRD Pro vs Ford Raptor for the full size then Toyota Tacoma/Hilux vs Ford Ranger for the midsize units.

This Toyota Hilux GR-S isn't really a Raptor competitor, lol. That's a fact. The exaggerated attempt to widen the exterior look is a bit much. To match to Raptor, this unit requires several improvements. Come on, Toyota! 😆

i feel this GR Sport inspired Hilux is still in a production experimental to compete with the Ranger Raptor po. maybe the 2nd iteration of this Hilux would be a full blown 1 competitor.
My father is an Engineer in DPWH, Dahil isa sya sa mga boss inisyuhan sya ng Hilux GR 2023 model, ok naman performance kaso pag sa rughed terrain na yung Ranger Raptor ng kaibigan nyang District engineer ang ginagamit nila dahil sobrang tagtag daw nung GR Hilux. Sa tingin ko malaki ang improvement ng Ford at marami na ding parts available, mas madami ding features kesa sa Toyota. Kung may pera ka Ford talaga ang bibilhin mo over sa Toyota, dahil ang mayayaman naman eh nagpapalit ng unit every 3-5years para walang hustle sa kanila.
