    They are good for families with younger kids whose controllers are not always going to be taken care of and charged.
    My family and friends have been playing a lot of Mario Party recently, and because we have a lot of controllers everywhere, some of them are not as charged and run out of battery quicker. Seeing that it is hard if not impossible to charge one Joy-Con while playing a game like Mario Party, this allows you to continue without any issues. I remembered these existed a few weeks ago when we started running into this issue, and just a few days ago I found a box of them at London Drugs for only $25.00 Canadian.

      Buy some plastic grips. They don't add any weight, but they do add a contour to make it more ergonomic. You can buy a pack of 2 pairs for like $10-$15. It makes it so much more comfortable than a flat joycon. You won't regret it. I bought ones by SENHAI and suggest simply because I know the "butt" is properly supported (it's not an empty cavity, but if you can see the inside of other grips and see it's supported then that'll work too.

    A friend got me these when I first got my Switch in 2018, and I have to say.. Having not been a huge Nintendo fan at the time (I didn't watch any of the videos hyping up the Switch, or see anything about it's specs.) I was super excited because I thought I'd be playing with the Joy Cons off more often than I do, and I didn't know the battery lasted *that* long on each one. So now the main purpose for them is just making the Joy Cons feel better to hold. The added weight is great as well, it makes you feel like you're actually holding something of substance.
    Also, sometimes trying to take off the battery cover is a god damn nightmare.

    I bought these Grips about two months ago when this video came out but didn't see this video until now and I have to agree with Scott's assessment. I love using these for games like Skyward Sword, but I kind of forget they're there. I'm interested to try them out for all games that don't need motion controls also try them out for single Joy-Con use. It's funny that the intended purpose of these would be more for something like the DualSense Edge (the battery is terrible for those), but with the Joy-Con, the best purpose is just adding some weight to your controller where it doesn't feel like you're playing with feathers.
    I would be very interested in Scott making a video on the different colored Joy-Con Straps, since he briefly touched on them in reference to the yellow Joy-Con. Unlike these, those can only be bought for cosmetic reasons, considering all Joy-Con come with them. Knowing Scott, though, he may already have a video on those Straps.

  • @coachart_
    @coachart_ Год назад +103

    This video unironically sold me on these, these look SUPER useful for my and my roommates.
    Theres 4 of us and we often spontaneously jump into smash or mario kart, and if we're playing on the switch, we'll often have to wait for controllers to charge which is a big barrier to just sliding into a game with the boys. With our limited amount of outlets, we only have one of our switches plugged in at a time, which then means only 2 joycons are charged at a time while the rest deplete in battery in the days in-between playing. These battery grips basically solve all of that lol.

    • @Gtune_
      @Gtune_ Год назад +23

    I think they actually wanted these to be just grips for the controller but thought it was just too little, that people would question why weren't those shipped by default with the system anyways, so they tacked on the charging function with single use batteries instead of the better solution which would be rechargeable batteries on the grips.

    Yeah, I agree with the assessment, these look wildly comfortable. I'm surprised they didn't include a piece of plastic like this but without the battery functionality as extra grip for the joycons, or maybe built into the straps if you're gonna use them detached anyway.

    I use the.... joycon... controller... converter thing all the time. I can bring the plastic thing anywhere that I bring my switch, and set the switch screen on the table and play comfortably with the controller. The pro controller is also nice but it's a bit heavier and more cumbersome to carry around in my bag.
    I don't think there's a situation where I'd want a AA battery pack for my joycons. I'd much rather rechargable battery packs. Nobody is using AA batteries for their games controllers anymore.

    What they should have done with the Joy-Con Charging Grip is allowed it to charge both Joy-Cons separately from the console AND have a built-in battery so it can charge the Joy-Cons without plugging the grip in.
    Even if it was $10 or $15 more expensive, it would have been worth the price if it had a built-in battery, but as is, it's just a way to charge your Joy-Cons through a wire without having them plugged into the console and that's not nearly as convenient.
    It is the preferred version of the Joy-Con Grip, but it's still not perfect.

The rest sit around dead (I have a charging dock but I'm not going to leave them charging 24/7). So when my friend comes over and needs a controller, these things give one of my choice instant power without confining it to a dock, my Switch, or a 2-Joy-Con grip.
