    They are good for families with younger kids whose controllers are not always going to be taken care of and charged.
    My family and friends have been playing a lot of Mario Party recently, and because we have a lot of controllers everywhere, some of them are not as charged and run out of battery quicker. Seeing that it is hard if not impossible to charge one Joy-Con while playing a game like Mario Party, this allows you to continue without any issues. I remembered these existed a few weeks ago when we started running into this issue, and just a few days ago I found a box of them at London Drugs for only $25.00 Canadian.

    • @mrshmuga9
      @mrshmuga9 Год назад +33

      They look a bit too thick and a bit pricey. I bought some SENHAI grips a few years ago and they're great. It doesn't really add much weight because it's plastic, but adds a contour (like the Wii U gamepad had) to make it more ergonomic. Would highly recommend. I gave a spare to my brother-in-law and he loves it too.

    I can understand why this could be useful, like if you have a spare joycon set for children that never see a charger. Or, maybe you need to use them for another device for a while on say a long flight. Sure, they're not the most common use cases, but its a nice option to have.

    The JoyCons work great if you like me have hand/shoulder arthritis. I think the battery pack would make them heavy enough to aggravate the arthritis pain more. The JoyCons have allowed me to play games again in spite of the arthritis - they are light and I can hold them far enough apart to minimize the pain.

    • @mrshmuga9
      @mrshmuga9 Год назад +18

      Buy some plastic grips. They don't add any weight, but they do add a contour to make it more ergonomic. You can buy a pack of 2 pairs for like $10-$15. It makes it so much more comfortable than a flat joycon. You won't regret it. I bought ones by SENHAI and suggest simply because I know the "butt" is properly supported (it's not an empty cavity, but if you can see the inside of other grips and see it's supported then that'll work too.

    This video unironically sold me on these, these look SUPER useful for my and my roommates.
    Theres 4 of us and we often spontaneously jump into smash or mario kart, and if we're playing on the switch, we'll often have to wait for controllers to charge which is a big barrier to just sliding into a game with the boys. With our limited amount of outlets, we only have one of our switches plugged in at a time, which then means only 2 joycons are charged at a time while the rest deplete in battery in the days in-between playing. These battery grips basically solve all of that lol.

    A friend got me these when I first got my Switch in 2018, and I have to say.. Having not been a huge Nintendo fan at the time (I didn't watch any of the videos hyping up the Switch, or see anything about it's specs.) I was super excited because I thought I'd be playing with the Joy Cons off more often than I do, and I didn't know the battery lasted *that* long on each one. So now the main purpose for them is just making the Joy Cons feel better to hold. The added weight is great as well, it makes you feel like you're actually holding something of substance.
    Also, sometimes trying to take off the battery cover is a god damn nightmare.

    I bought these Grips about two months ago when this video came out but didn't see this video until now and I have to agree with Scott's assessment. I love using these for games like Skyward Sword, but I kind of forget they're there. I'm interested to try them out for all games that don't need motion controls also try them out for single Joy-Con use. It's funny that the intended purpose of these would be more for something like the DualSense Edge (the battery is terrible for those), but with the Joy-Con, the best purpose is just adding some weight to your controller where it doesn't feel like you're playing with feathers.
    I would be very interested in Scott making a video on the different colored Joy-Con Straps, since he briefly touched on them in reference to the yellow Joy-Con. Unlike these, those can only be bought for cosmetic reasons, considering all Joy-Con come with them. Knowing Scott, though, he may already have a video on those Straps.

    I bought those mainly for better grips when playing with the joycons like Wii remotes. Didn't have to use the batteries. It's not Wii remote levels of comfortable, but it's better than holding the flat joycons themselves.

    I never had Arms but I got these cheap at gamestop. I used these to comfortably play Skyward Sword. Never put in batteries so I guess I haven't used them as intended but they add the perfect amount of weight and girth to the joy con and are superior to the standard strap.

    I ordered some 3d printed single grips of our etsy for the joycons to make them more ergonomic -- they have finger groves and make it much easier to hold, it's a stressful hand position sans something like the single grips for some repetitive stress injuries. The joycons being separate is actual useful for being able to sit in ways that can be better for the body -- like split keyboards.
    I'd make more sense to have something re-chargable with more ergonomic fit then these

    This unironically made me want these actually. I love the freedom of playing with split Joycons and them being so tiny is one of the biggest drawbacks. My biggest issue is the small buttons, but I feel like I wouldn't mind as much if they were easier to hold with these anyway

      Right?
      I used an 8bitdo controller for a long time, but used joycons once to try out the motion controls on Skyrim. Way more comfortable having more freedom to adjust my posture with the split joycons.
      Then my joycons started having issues connecting and charging while docked, so these grips solved a battery problem for me.

    I like them. The switch is too big to just throw in my bag with the joycons attached, so I use it in tabletop mode exclusively with the joycons dangling around. So the joycons are always empty. Pop in some fresh batteries, remove them before I stop playing (they *will* discharge in my bag), and... oh wait, I play the 3ds almost exclusively now

    As a Nintendo fanatic I gotta say the joycons are definitely the most uncomfortable controller in gaming history. Even worse than those Chinese bootleg consoles.
    Because I have such a gentle grip I've always talked about no matter how much I play I've never had a problem with carpal tunnel...then Tears Of The Kingdom released. And that was the end of that.

I keep running into the issue that for whatever dumb reason everytime I want to play together with someone, one pair of joy-cons is completely out of battery despite me not having used them once since the last time we played, and since I only have two pairs, we then always have to wait an eternity for those to charge. I wouldn't use the battery pack that much at any other time I guess, but for that particular kind of situation it definitely would've been really useful

    This feels like it’s for people who have more than one pair of joy cons, whether you like a specific pair to stay on display with the switch, or just want to use joy-cons that aren’t currently charged. Plus. It’s a cool alternative to a charging stand, and you could store the controllers with any other controllers you have, and not worry about their charge.
