Hey guys, I just want to thank you for this video. For months I was having an intermittent rough idle and random stalling when coming to a stop. It would drive fine one day and the next day randomly start idling rough and shut off with no cel or codes at all. I took it to multiple german shops and it would never show the issues and would work fine and I was losing my mind. Once a code finally came up saying camshaft position timing over advanced the garages all started throwing out ideas but it seemed none of them had any idea what they were talking about. After reading some reddit posts of ppl with the 2.5 having similar issues and after changing camshaft position sensor it going away I figured it was worth a shot and I watched your video and did it. It has never had the issues since I replaced that and when I removed it you could see that it was bad but for months their was no code and its like it didn't know it was bad and was searching for the right idle. It was a huge headache and I thank you again.

Do you remember the exact codes you got. I’m having the same issue. Idle is rough but driving the car is fine. I’m wondering if the sensor is bad which I can replace in my driveway or do I need a timing chain. I got codes P0011, P0300, P0301, P0302, & P0304.

@@michaelnash2972 P0343 was my code. Similar to above poster. Mine had occasional rough idle & also a few engine stall at stoplight for a few yrs. No codes & VW tech had no idea. Finally CEL came on this week after a lost of engine power for a couple seconds, then after some driving even the EPC light came on. Bought code reader & then sensor online for cheap. 15 mins job to swap it in. I’ll say in your case you have nothing to lose trying.

Quick note: Mine took a T30 to remove, not T35. My "check engine" light came on, I went to Autozone and borrowed their OBD2 scanner, came back as bad cam position sensor. Purchased it for $78 plus tax, and thanks to your video, I replaced it in about 10 minutes. Thanks for the help!

    • @dmoder3

@Erik Luhrs Absolutely. Would cut off letting off gas while on the highway. Extremely hazardous! Dealt with this issues for nearly 6 years and VW could never figure it out. After installing the new sensor I did clear the code and they never returned. Still no codes to this day and I did this fix nearly two years ago. My 2011 SE 2.5 is still my daily driver.

I have a 1999 VW bora V5. Runs perfectly until it gets warm and then shuts down. Everything works .... Lights, dash, radio... The engine will crank over but there is no spark to the plugs. There is no error code on the diagnostic machine and the fuel pump can be heard running. When I let is cool down for 20 minutes, it will start first go and then shut down again after about 10 minutes driving. I am travelling around the Uk from Aus on holiday, your video is very helpful. Hopefully this will be the problem. If not do you have any other suggestions.

Clean off the o-ring landing and use clean oil to lubricate the new o-ring, the oil actually helps the new ring slide into place easier and the oil will soak into the new o-ring a little bit to make it seal better.

I have a 2010 Jetta Sportswagen with roughly 65K miles. Bought it used about a year ago. Long story short it started out as this kind of violent little sputtering or bucking while driving...sometimes under heavy acceleration other times just under normal cruising speed. No lights would come on and it would be as if the motor would become unresponsive but all electrical would stay on then car would come back to life a few seconds later.
Then that started morphing into car just dying out while driving. Again no fault codes or warning lights coming on. I’d pull over stop and put car in park, restart car and it would start right back up.
Then that morphed into car now dying at idle, especially it seemed if you turned on the AC too. Then that morphed into car starting then immediately dying, start again...dies out again...then car doesn’t want to start at all for a while. Then you wait a while try again it starts.
Now I changed out the speed sensor already and the fuel pump and the car is still having the same issue. Should I change out the crankshaft and cam sensor next? Is the manifold dirty??? Is their some sort of other fuel, air or CPU issue??? Please help!!!!

I had similar issues that you have stated. My 2012 Golf 2.5, would stall out at idle (stoplights, traffic, letting off the accelerator for a long period). Like your situation, the vehicle gave no lights/codes. I drove it this way for about 10 months. Just recently it gave the Camshaft Position sensor (P0341). I changed it out the next day. It has solved my problem entirely. It might be your problem as well.

So I was having a rough idle on my 2012 Jetta 2.5L and I cleaned out the map sensor and the throttle. Now I'm having an issue as soon as I start the car. Before, it would take time for it to idle rough. Now it's doing it right from start-up. I'm so confused. No vacuum leaks at all. I've triple checked. In general vw's do very poorly with aftermarket parts due, I think to tight software tolerances. The internal resistance of off-brand electrical parts can be interpreted by the ECU as a misbehaving part. Bosch is the usual OEM but anything that says OE (original equipment) will work and Autozone does carry OEM parts. If the error code won't clear after replacing the part, it's unhappy with the part or it's something else. VCDS has a Wiki for free. Ross Tech.

Is there an instance where the CPS would work intermittently? I've been having an issue where it throws a P0341 code and runs poorly when I remove and reinstall the engine cover, but then when I remove/reinstall the engine cover a 2nd time, it runs fine and I can clear the code. I don't see any issues with the connections or wiring harness, so I don't know if there's a continuity issue I'm not detecting, or if it is actually something with the sensor itself.
