Loved the Fall Guy growing up. It was about a stunt man who had to side hustle as a bounty hunter because he was paid so low. Used stunt skills and props to bring in the bail jumpers. Usually every episode involved a car jump or a high dive for some reason 😆 ahhh nostalgia
This movie was not even close to being anything about the TV show which was a huge disappointment for me. Just the title and names were used from the show and that was it.
Yup for sure. Just saw it and I enjoyed it (7.5/10 is my rating), but not quite what I was hoping for and shouldn’t make my top 10 of the year. I’d still recommend it though. It is a fun movie
Went to see "The Fall Guy", today for my second time for Mother's Day and took my husband for his birthday and we both love it. I am 78 and he is 74. We laughed a lot. Saw things I didn't notice the first time and am anxious to see it again to see other things I missed.
I agree about it being too long. It felt like the plot was wrapping up pretty nicely around the 90 minute mark, but then it just kept on going for another half hour. Taken on its own, the action and humor of the final act is fantastic, but after everything that came before, it was just too much of a good thing, and kind of exhausting.
Saw the trailer during the Super Bowl and thought it just was a parody commercial..lol..the 80s t.v show was great but not interested in seeing this movie
I really enjoyed the movie and I loved the tv show back in the day! I also enjoyed the music in the movie, especially the cover of Kiss' I was made for lovin you!
Let me preface by saying I'm a big ole snobby snotbag and wear that badge with pride... I can't see any value in this movie at all. I don't care that it was a silly show when I was really young. Nostalgia isn't a drug for me. I just think this looks like movie number 472,238 with some sort of chemistry set measurement of action and comedy with the exact same marketing as a freaking Mario movie. If someone told me Jack Black made an appearance just to sing about Peaches, I'd nod and say, "Why wouldn't he?" I don't know. I'm a crabby old bastard but it's sooooo effing formulaic and done done done.
This started slow and was boring. Was entertaining and true plot starts halfway in with karaoke scene. Blunt and Gosling no chemistry. Romance plot worst part of movie. Gosling great as always. .
At the beginning when he got injured - I really thought that this scene was going to be way more meaningful and that it will have some kind of consequences. Maybe to show how he deals with physical limitations while being a stunt man at heart or something along those lines. But nope. I guess they didn’t want to go this far. I hate this saying but I feel like this movie is the epitome of “having a huge potential” to be so much more :(
The Fall Guy excellent TV show back in the day Lee Majors and my hot lady back in the 80s Heather Locklear wow the Fall Guy was a stuntman but also mainly a bounty hunter travel all over the country looking for bail jumpers for Jack a bail bonds person lady all the stunts are real no CG like the movie for me just another BS remake from the 80s which was an excellent time for television and movies. Fall Guy movie is just BS I want them to stop destroying all of my television and movies from my youth.
Spoiler Alert: They are both in the film. Be sure to watch all the credits too. Lee has been on this from the beginning. He’s 82 now. Saw it last night. I am going again with my daughter, her husband and my grandkids. I feel sorry for really younger people who never got to experience these kind of just really fun movies from the 60s, 70’s and 80’s on the big screen! And the more serious ones to. You can’t sit home watching these types of movies and get the full experience.
@@Ldv1969cts5 oh yeah I'm going out Saturday to watch it I wouldn't miss it just getting to be an old man and picky but thank you I didn't know Lee and Heather were in it.
@@willriker943 just so you know they have cameos toward the end. Ryan Gosling and Lee had many conversations before the film was even in production. They text each other all the time. That’s what I like about Gosling, he is so respectful to the older generation.
When David Leitch is involved in any way, even if you end up getting the worst movie in the world, you’re gonna get bulletproof action and action choreography
No score? You didn't know how to feel about a lot of the movie, but it should have been 15-20 minutes shorter. Is it streaming, like you said? This was a 2HR movie. What about the romance was an issue? I love your horror reviews.
Just don't like leiches movies. Didnt enjoy Deadpool 2, didn't enjoy Bullet Train, i can respect the craftsman ship and vision in his movies but I just can't connect with them. I think I'll give this a miss unfortunately and catch it on streaming. And it's weird because I love some of the scenes in his movies I just think the full package is always a mixed bag. Like Deadpool 2 for example Cable was incredible, juggernaut was incredible but the movie was trying way too hard to be funny that it just ended up not funny. Unlike in Deadpool 1 where it all felt natural
I’m imagining a Robert Altman version with just tons of characters getting overlapping vignette’s involving multiple stunt peoples viewpoints and characters on display with a dash of The Winslow Boy where the romance was a sneaky undertone
Just got home from the theaters watching it and it had everything that I wanted in an action film but the plot was a little unfocused at some points. It felt like it was trying to be an action comedy and a romcom all at once and they were really struggling trying to decide which one to go with. But other than that I had a smile on my face all throughout the movie. Definitely a must buy as soon as it hits shelves
Probably what killed this movie WAS the emphasis on the meta commentary on stunt work. I'm almost sure the show it was based on was about a stuntman who was a bounty hunter on the side. Why wasn't he a bounty hunter in this movie? Have him be a stuntman by day, bounty hunter by night, and the perp he has to find and bring in for the movie is some mafioso's whistleblower ex-wife, and the mafioso is also bankrolling his movie/using production to launder money. Most general audiences don't give a shit about Hollywood as an industry or culture, which is why movies like Babylon and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood have very little broad appeal. Also I think audiences are getting increasingly tired of meta storytelling in general. Just tell a straightforward story that doesn't have to reference something outside of the world it's in
Meh… just looks like another marvel clone to me… that goofy, can’t take anything serious, quippy tone… a bunch of CG enhanced fx and just generally… toothless… I wouldn’t mind seeing gosling take on a real, meat and potatoes action flick though (yes, I saw grey man- that ain’t it.).
After a long time I return to doing some reviews. I hope Cody and the rest of film critics are doing well. My review Back ground - The Fall Guy is a movie about a stuntman played by Ryan Gosling. After a stunt goes wrong he retires from the industry and breaks up with his girlfriend Emily Blunt who is a second unit cinematographer. However when he is given a chance to be the stuntman on a movie which is the directorial debut of his ex he returns to action. The twist in the plot comes when the lead actor of the movie just disappears and its to Gosling to find him and save the movie of his ex girlfriend. Likes - I liked the plot idea. The Fall Guy is based on a show of a similar name which aired in the 90's. And I remember the show and it was quite popular back then. The movie Fall Guy based on the show does have an original plot and some very interesting ideas. The set up and the main theme of the plot are original and interesting. The 2 leads Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are very well paired and definitely charming. They do look like a duo and it was great casting to pick 2 actors who have had diverse career paths and put them together. The stunt work is great and it is very well shot. Given the director himself was a stunt coordinator you can see the finesse in the action and stunt scenes. Dislikes - As almost all critics have noted The Fall Guy essentially tries to pack too many ideas or themes into one movie without having the screenplay or the drama to support them. It has the main plot where the stuntman has to be The Fall Guy, i.e. the guy who has to take the fall for somebody else, then it has romcom angle of Blunt and Gosling and there is also a commentary slash critique of film making. It was an ambitious attempt but if you are going to attempt such challenging task you need a really good screen play for it. A screenplay that really incorporates all those elements into a single plot. The plot of the Fall Guy, is actually pretty basic and lacks any depth. And the main plot does have loopholes which are pretty obvious. Hence it seems the lack of directing experience of the director restricts the scope of the movie. Directing stunt work and directing and constructing a scene are two different things. The screenplay and the direction of the Fall Guy barring the stunt work is really ordinary. Final Thoughts- The Fall Guy does have an interesting plot base and there is definitely an attempt to give meaning to and provide a strong background for the main plot. That a stuntman is the ultimate Fall Guy who takes the fall for somebody else. But without a proper screenplay, lack of depth in the dramatic scenes, and loose plot ends the movie fails to do realize the potential of its main idea. But still its a decent one time watch and if not a great movie it will be remembered as different type of action movie. I give The Fall Guy a 6/10 but it was a movie which could should have scored 8/10 had the plot been developed into a better screenplay and more effort was put on the acting and drama.
I gotta credit Ryan Goslings' range, man. He can do any role in any genre

Seriously! Most overrated band ever, like 20 albums w a few good songs but at least they had a ‘look’ indeed

For me is their song War Machine
Agree 100% with your review. It was about 2/3 of the way there in all 3 categories.

I thought the first 30 minutes were really strong but then the plot goes all over the place. Really unfocused
The chick in the hotel suite who attacked him with a sword.
That scene made no sense.
Like it was thrown in there to add run time.
You both are wrong the story and writing are amazing
The movie made u smile... so that's wat better than 95% of what Hollywood puts out.... even though u didn't have belly laugh... it made u smile... 3.5
I love the ending on the helicopter when Ryan sticks up the finger and made for loving you starts playing lol it was a good/fun movie.

It's so nice that we're going back to movies based on TV shows instead of remakes of movies.
It wasn’t based on the TV show at all.
Just the title, character names and a stunt man.
Nothing else resembling the TV show whatsoever.
I kind of loved this movie it's funny action packed and romantic there is something for almost everyone Ryan gosling is great in the movie
It’s a fun movie I’ll give it that. But nothing that stays with you and if I want to watch a fun movie I have a bunch that comes to mind first.
