i had originally learned the wd40 trick from an older gentleman at the lrh clay track. I've used this method ever since, it will work on anything from rc to bike tires.
hey!! YUP! years ago alot of the old timer rece guys would WD-40 their tires. I remember doing It on an HPI MIcro RS4 while racing at an indoor carpet style track.
I got a Red Cat Danchee. This thing is totally crazy. I'm used to running Bash Trucks. Those you take out and run them until they break and you take them in and work on them. I'm not used to a vehicle that doesn't break. This thing is so cool.
I totally hear you on that one, lol! Bashing and slow crawling are two different things. If you have a chance to pick up a redcat GEN8 that crawler will blow you away. They usually go on pretty good sales and when they are around 240, thats the time to pick one up.
You can leave the tires on the wheels, brush on WD40, and saran wrap to soak in. Many enthusiasts just brush on and leave it on a stand, no wrapping needed.
hey buddy! That is a terrific idea! it sounds much easier than What I was attempting to do, similar results though overall. I will try this the next time around, thanks!
yup to hand crushing/stretching 5-6 minutes with WD-40, softens them right up. I don't know about hours or days in a ziploc bag, that might be kinda overkill. edit: to mount the soft tires black silicone is good stuff, sticks tight but you're still able to peel it loose if you need to. put it in the rim beads pop the tire on spin it 1/2 turn and let it set
haha, yes I went overboard. Although after a few hours in the WD-40 there was no difference as I kept it there for days. BTW have you noticed that the WD-40 has a tendency to make the tires a little bigger? Mine are about 1-2 MM bigger than when I started.
yup man! The kit is the way to go, I still mess around with mine to this day. Check my channel ,you will find I installed a real working metal winch and a smoke generator.
How long are you letting the tires soak in WD-40? I did the WD40 method on my WPL tires and it made them swell to the point that they would not fit on the rims anymore. I have also done this with 1/10 size tires and sometimes it works great, other times it ruins my tires. It is not the softness of the tire that will allow you to crawl over things, but it is the softness with the stickiness. if you wd40 your kit tires on just the tread and let it sit you will notice how the rubber gets sticky. This is pretty much the same concept with proline tires, that is why they are so good.
Hi I try the wd40 and work very nice for like 3 weeks and got hard again, the hand massage is something I won’t do maybe I will try to use a power drill to do the massage, I use low speed and the kit tires with wheel weights and foam work nice for me, thanks for doing this test video
Hey my dude, welcome to the channel and glad to hear you’re exploring some new RC categories like crawlers. Generally only the really cheap toy grade crawlers have tires that can be easily taken off, the higher end models that are hobby grade use bead locks.
I have the Danchee Ridgerock rock crawler. It is so light that even after taking the foams out the tires still seem to be hard enough to loose grip in some scenarios. Adding weight is not an option as the model has a lot of plastic components and something will break easily under heavy loads. The tires don´t seem to be the same rubber type as for example in my TRX4. Did someone tried the WD-40 method in a Ridgerock?
haahaah, ye, I could not believe the hand massaging actually worked when I did it. I'd say a god thirty minutes per tire will do it. WD-40 is the best method so far.
So now the real question is how long does the wd-40 softness last? Do you have to occasionally soak it to get the softness back after a few weeks? Few months? A year? Ever? Got some cheap 1.75 all terrain tires for semi’s i was going to run on a King Kong zil.
Hey buddy! You only need enough to soak into the tires. A couple sprays and work it in there. BTW, keep in mind eventually the tires will become a little less soft over time (1 year or so). You might also notice the wheels will expand a little, just be aware, over time they will shirk slightly.
thanks!! Did you watch my newest video btw, I said i'm getting out of these cheap scale crawler/trail trucks. I'm done with these. I still will do projects on the ones I own, but not buying more.
@@hybrid32494 yea just watch your new video, the WPL itself took long time to make the new model and chassis style, we in Malaysia still upgrading and fine the best setup on our Wpl C or B series, also, the new comer MN90 is the wpl killer, many of us buying the nm90, and some of them put mn90 bodies to their upgraded C14/24. like me myself, i bought Double Eagle Defender 110 just to take the body to fit into my C14, yes as always the camel trophy is the good choice to makeover the stock looking body. i think its too long to write here,, Thanks
hey buddy!! Just spray some in a plastic sip lock bag and massage it into the tires. Don't do more than one hour. I noticed the tires expanded a little after this, so the bead was a little loose on the wheel. It's still drivable, and after 1-2 weeks they will return back to normal size. The hand squeezing works well too, but is super annoying.
thanks so much!! Are you into the electrics mostly? I'm into all RC, lol. I probably have a good split of electrics, nitro and gas now. Anyway, the hand massaging keeps the tires pretty soft permanently. You should try to use WD-40 as a test on the spare tire first. Just to see what happens. Most people don't say this but the way it works is the Oil will literally penetrate the rubber wheel and thats why it will get a little larger, after a while some of the moisture will evaporate. Thats how I figured this all out.. DO a sample on the spare tire. Not like you will ever use it anyway . .
Save some bucks and soak tires with any vegetable (or mineral) oil instead of WD 40. You can thin it a little with naptha if you want it to dry more quickly.
hey dude! Thanks for watching. Yes, using WD-40 is the best method, although after a couple months the tires will tend to Harden up a little again, so you would need to do this repeatedly, or just really some to the outside of the wheels every few months or so. It's possible this cheap rubber just dries out on it's own also.
hey buddy! thanks for watching! You're right, I have since glued all the tires on the C14 Kit I have. It's pretty good now, they were so soft that they just slipped of the bead each run.
Take your truck outside. Hold with one hand and turn the wheels on and spray. The WD40 downwards on the tread towards the grass as the tires are removing and let them move for a while that way it will spin. The WD40 access away from the sidewalls and keep it on the treads. Where you want it that way only the tread will soften
hey man, you're right about this. Although in about 2-3 weeks the tires will shrink back to almost normal size and they will still remain much softer. It seems the WD-40 literally soaks into the tires and therefore then expand some, but eventually the liquid will evaporate for the most part. I'd say it still safe to use WD-40 but much less than submerging it, pretty much a small amount of it as I used in the bag I had the tires in. Let me know if your tires return back to normal eventually.
@@hybrid32494 I soaked my hbx devastator tyres in wd40 for a few hours. They didn't fit the wheel so blasted them with a hair dryer, went back to original size and stayed softish

hey bro! IDK, that is something I have not tried or though of, lol. I could imagine you would get some burned rubber, lol. BTW, some people put these in hot water (boiling).
hey man!! that for the comment!! You're right, the tires will swell if you soak it too long and in too much WD-40, because the rubber will absorb the oils, thats physically how it gets softer. I did not that after a week-2 they will come back to almost normal size and still be soft. It's still a positive effect I'd say. A good way to do this is to not do more than 2 hours with WD-40.
hey bro! you got a point there. Unfortunately the damn RTR model comes with really hard tires, meanwhile the Kit come with really soft tires. A tire in between would be ideal. Thanks for watching man! hope you check out some of my newer vids.
Gabriel Silvas channel showed it, did mine about 6-7 minutes each was enough, crushing them mercilessly, pinching them, twisting them etc. doing same wet with WD-40 does it even better.
Just remove the foam inserts from my tires. They are extremely soft now. I am going to try running that way. Has anybody else tried running tires without foam? They're very soft and squishy.
STEVO D 313 hey bro. I literally used non diluted simple green to soften the tires. No results. Wd-40 is best method. You should fo this to your wpl, you still got that kit?
Don't listen to this clown, there is no such thing as too soft a tire for these small crawlers. Apparently this guy is completely clueless tire foams exist? 🙄 The softer the tire, the more tunable they are to perfection for your exact rig weight and performance. Did the hand massage and it worked! Thanks for the tips bro

i usually wd40 condition my tires once a month, it works well.
I have an MN99S and I folded each tyre in and out for about 3 minutes each and I found that made them alot softer

Glueing tires is standard procedure imho. So I'd say: get the kit tires. They're super cheap.

thank u, it help me a lot!
I found the wd-40 worked amazing after 24 hrs. However, they stretched a bit in the washing process after and would not fit back on my bead locks.
That's swelling. The WD40 actually works into the material like it's a sponge.
Take your truck outside. Hold with one hand and turn the wheels on and spray. The WD40 downwards on the tread towards the grass as the tires are removing and let them move for a while that way it will spin. The WD40 access away from the sidewalls and keep it on the treads. Not in same country as you guys - what is WD40?
Anti rust spraying
WD-40 will not only soften the tires but also expand it. It will not fit back on the rim properly because it will be a little too big.
