- It's not just me that likes to play PC games in my family, and today I'm taking a look at a PC my sister purchased to play The Sims on. Up until this video I had no idea what was inside, but I don't think she did either.
Let's get into it!

Isn't it lovely when your family members never ask you for advice about what to buy when it actually matters. But on the other hand they are always bothering you when you don't want them to.
Wooow, there's something seriously wrong there with the Sims 2. Even an Intel HD graphics should obliterate that game with frames

Yep, the hdd is most likely the issue.
8gb ram is enough to cache that entire game. I doubt the hdd is the problem. However i think there is something wrong with the windows install there were s bunch of stuttering even after he upgraded the graphics to a gpu thats 10x better.
E Vers Thats not how it works. The game will have a set limit to ram usage, it will not cache the entire game. He could creat a ramdisk and run the whole game from there, but thats beside the point. Issues with both windows and the poor performance from sims 2 indicate poor page file function and read/write problems with the hdd.
Pair that i5 with a 1050 2gb or a ti and it should play most AAA titles at medium- high settings.
@Max Pain i5 3300 would bottleneck. My i5 4570 bottlenecks my gtx 960 ssc sometimes
@SekretAgentMans I have an I5 3470 with an RX 480 4gb, that was flashed into an RX 580. So far, I haven't experienced any bottlenecking.
1050ti 4GB or 1060 6GB is the minimum of what i would recommend. 3GB is already barely enough in most games. In the near future it will be min spec. With 6 GB you turn the 1060 in a futureproof 1080p card.
ive got an i5 3330 with a GTX 980 4gb and I can run most games medium-high
even VR games i can run no problem

Yesterday i bought a complete desktop with an i7 870 for €15 (17 usd) on a local online marketplace. put a second hand gtx 950 2gb superclocked in it for €45 (52 usd). now my little brother is rocking hard in fortnite. a nice bargain for $70.

anikanbounty97, You could ebay that 9590 for $100, then buy a used gtx960 4gb or rx470 and be good to go.
Lucky, where I'm at, everything is damn expensive. For example, you'll laugh at this but a GTX 1060 is, in dollars, 500 to $600

Your sister must be really happy with the improvements! I remember going from my Celeron laptop from 2009 with Vista to a mobile i7 with a 750M. I was blown away
is not the cpu that made it stutter more than sure it was the crap 2.5inch laptop hdd that was in the pc
Very true. An SSD would make a huge difference to the performance.

Unless you have one gigabyte of ram, the hdd doesnt come into play. Plus, i use mostly 205 inch hdds and they seem to perform quite well at 10k rpm
That cpu isn’t bad should not have caused stuttering. However 1 gb vram isn’t very good When a game goes past that it uses system ram to page textures and the ddr3 1333 mhz is not going to perform as well as the stuff he has in the Ryzen. I know he thonks highly of that gpu but i bet replace it with a 2gb gtx 1050 and those stutters go away. Other thing to check is the crap running in the background my fathers hp is similar and I was surprised to see some factory bloat ware using up 1/2 the resources.
Internet Recluse that's a really false statement my gtx 1060 8gb of ram i5 7400 was stuttering like crazing when loading textures with my old Toshiba harddrive then when I upgraded to a sshd (seagate firecuda) it fixed it
I kinda doubt the Bottleneck is the CPU, maybe it's the HDD (looked like a 2,5"?) or the Ram not running in dual channel (keep in mind the GPU might have to use RAM as it has only 1GB Vram). A i5 3330 should be bottlenecked by a 7770 in most cases.
Easily. The i5-3330 is a fine CPU for what's being asked of it here.
Should have given her a SSD for the OS though, it´s a great improvement if you´re going to game on it.

The motherboard may be holding that i5 back as well too. I just upgraded a system with this exact chip in it and changed out the stock (crap) motherboard out for a B75. Where before some games would max it out and cause frame drops after the flip it barely touched 82% in those same situations. Just food for thought. It was running with an R9 390X and 16gb of ddr3 just to give all info.

the cpu would do much better by adding another 8gb stick or swapping that 8gb out for 2x4gb so dual channel works.
How come it wasn't cleaned with new TP? I think the stuttering is caused by improper cooling and HDD being a fragmented mess.
Just upgraded my 1070 to a 2080ti for some future proofing couldn’t be more satisfied, but yet instead of watching vids on crazy powerful pcs like mine I still love you vids about old but gold pcs gives me nostalgia

The i5 3300 is still very good it's in my brothers pc with a rx 460 and still runs things great

These are actually pretty fun things to watch just because of the old tech involved
A lot of that stuttering could be alleviated by installing a second ram stick. Intels CPU and GPU rely on memory in dual channel for maximum throughput.

What was that thing Intel had with the Ivybridge cpus? It would link the igpu and gpu together?
I tried Google but couldn't get results.
It was the few things alongside the ssd cache that made me pick a i5 3570k upon release.
Also what's happened to the bundle deals? I remember getting a cpu, mobo and ram from aria for around £300 this was very shortly after ivy release. It was good ram corsair vengence @1600 or 1866 and a good gigabyte mobo.

like i got dual channel 16gb ddr4 an rx 570 and a ryzen cpu and my game goes from 40 to 10 fps at low settings :l

Wow, that is actually a good computer. I was expecting along the lines of a core 2 or an Athlon 64 x2.
My LAN pc has an i5-3330 in it and when ever I have to get it out, it never lets me down!

Hi. Can a Q6700 runs Fifa19 and Pes2019? Currently I have E8400 with RX460 and 8gb ram, the game not starting at all.
I actually used one of those hp pro systems as a base for my gaming rig. The case im using is from an older hp pavilion that i really like but im using the motherboard, psu, cooler, and dvd-r drive from the hp pro. For a few days i also used the g870 that came stock but then the core i5 2400 i ordered arrived.
I wanted to know everything about the PC all the parts the hard drive or motherboard and I wanted to see the comparison of how it did with the farming Sim at the beginning but you didn't do that and I was also curious what your sister thought.
Same, also it would be great to find of what model HP it is so we could have a look at the specs for items like the chipset, any limitations on CPU upgrades, the max memory it can support.

What causes that window flickering on the screen when you played Sims 2?
I am wondering if my HD6670 will improve performance on a Ryzen 5 2400G? I am doubting it. Most reviewers compare the graphics side of the chip to a 1030.
Farm together is going to become a benchmark title with advanced options.

Not a bad PC at all. I would look at running the memory in dual channel mode, as it would have helped some of your results. An extra 8gb stick is very cheap. Plus running a reasonably cheap 240gb ssd (cloning Windows to it if you use a Samsung Evo drive) will make a huge difference too. The graphics card is decent enough too, but if you had tue 2gb version as you mentioned in the other video, it would make the framrates higher again. Great video as always.
Luckily you got the graphica cars working in this, im guessing this is the Cupertino gen 3 mobo, i have a cupertino gen 2 and none of my cards will work in it, it stays on integrated graphics💔

Any tips on finding a budget case? I got literally the cheapest one on amazon a few years back when I built my pc and its pretty awful. Definitely need a new one!

Ive actually got that exact model PC shoved in a cupboard running ESXi 5.5 with 16GB RAM, and a 1TB drive. Runs about 7 VM's that I use for various things.
What pc can run tomb raider 2013 just as well as the sims 2? that really confuses me.
I'm curious to see how dual channel ram helps the iGPU. Was it a single 8gb stick?

I noticed some stuttering, did you make sure max per-rendered frames was set to "1" in the NVIDIA control panel? Usually this happens with slower/older CPU's can't keep up with the faster graphics card;therefore, a lot of stuttering occurs and will raise the 1% lows..
With the better gpu is is still a cpu bottleneck? I think u could go with an i7 if possible
I had a similar pc back in 2012 but I had a i3-2120 and 6gb of ram. In 2017 I got bored and I was messing with it and somehow ended up putting a GTX980Ti and a RM850x psu inside it. Which was fun trying to put the cables into it though the old disk tray area as I took it out

I have a gateway OEM PC that has an I5 3330 I upgraded it to 16gb's of ram and paired it with an RX 580 I got for cheap and it runs everything I can throw at it. I'm really impressed.
Have you tried any of these budget mini pc builds that use laptop parts? Are they worth tricking out and how would their gaming performance be?
This is my budget build as of now $145. My rig so far is in a Cool Master Elite 110 case from New Egg, a used Asrock IMB-170 Socket g2 motherboard from Ebay for $70, from my broken Dell Inspiron n5110 R i've salvaged the i5-2410M cpu, 2x4gb of ddr3 sodimm ram 1866mhz, 7200 rpm 1tb sata hd, I picked up a nice cooler that fit the board perfectly from ebay for about $15 copper aluminum heatsink with a fan however I had to do a mod to the 400 watt power supply motherboard harness connecting the green and one of the ground wires I suppose i could use the mini pcie wifi card and put antennas on the case but i'd rather have a ssd boot drive but idk is all the upgrades really worth it? spending Is spending but would a $400 investment on a decent kingston ssd, a nividia gtx 1060 6gb gpu and the Intel Core i7-3940xm play the latest game titles???
Is it normal that rainbow six siege runs at medium settings at 1080p to 60/75 fps on a q6600 (3GHz) 2GB DDR2 and an HD 7850 2GB?
It would be nice, if you could make a video about non official Intel HD Graphics drivers. I've used them for a while like 2 years ago with my i5 4460 and its Intel HD 4600 or something, and it actually made quite a difference in games. I can't remember how big it was exactly, but I do remember I was amazed with the results. There is like a video or two on RUclips, so you can check it out, and decide wheter or not it's worth making a video about.

I like your channel cuz older hardware is what I run too. I5 2550k 10502gb baby, I'm doing great. I had to save up for the 1050, I had an AMD HD card of one sort or another, 1gb model. Actually wasn't half bad, l4d2 was above 60fps consistently
I had this system I used a few years ago. The only exception was that I had the Gigabyte version of the 7770.
Picking up a Dell Optiplex 9020 slim w/ a core i7 4770, and 8gb dual channel 1600mhz ram that includes a monitor and keyboard/mouse for $200 Canadian. Throw in an SSD and a low profile 1050ti for around $150 and bam. I already have a primary rig but finding this deal made it hard to pass on! Just figured I'd share this find with all of you budget builders! Cheers from Nova Scotia!

I got a computer from my Grandmother in hopes of uograding it and using it for light gaming. I get it, and first sign is the DC In Power Adapter plugged into the board. I open it up to find it has 2 DDR3 ram slots, a passive cooled AMD Fusion E300 1.3ghz Dual Core BGA CPU and not a PCI Slot to ve seen of any kind. Only ports on the board are populated besides the second ram slot. It is a HP Pavilion P2

I think the reason why he didn't choose a more modern gpu is because of the motherboard. The mobo used in that system is a HP proprietary board called Cupertino2 and for whatever reason this board doesn't support anything newer than Nvidia Fermi (the 5xx series).

Damn that's actually way better than what I expected.. I thought it'd be some core 2 duo or quad. It's actually newer than mine with an i5 2400, though 420cb is lower than what mine does. Im running Intel HD as well lol. Shit I need a GPU on this thing so bad
Thats weird, i run an i5 2400, 18gb of ram and a gtx 1060 and i dont get that many stutters, for example seige is usually always fine.
did you record on the same pc or use separate machine for capture?
Windows 7 is awesome, installed it last night on an i7-870 and GTX 760 to play the entire Half Life series!
