  • I've owned my Lotus Emira V6 for coming up to 6 months now and have covered 4,500 miles. In this video I discuss niggles I've experienced, the handling quirks and how it compares to its nearest rivals.

Somehow, unlike nearly every other RUclips “influencer” Harry has been inoculated against pointless chatter about “spec”. “Cold start video, and how “ ‘aggressive’ the new splitter looks!” Just incisive commentary on the things that truly matter about owning and driving the car. As always, a fantastic review. My dark verdant Emira 1st Edition automatic got delivered 5 weeks ago. In 3 weeks I’d run it in with now 2800 KMS on the odometer. The automatic with lovely aluminium paddle shifts is a blessing in busy traffic, which helps it perform as a daily driver. Lovely car to drive. Only the wiper issue is really annoying if not plain dangerous when it’s raining cats and dogs. When coming back from a meeting in Postdam, Germany 3 weeks ago, on the drive back to Belgium, the rain never stopped. At certain times, visibility was so poor that it was dangerous. So I hope Lotus does find a solution soon! But to all who are less lucky and are still waiting: what a car, you’ll forget the wait immediately! Thank you, Bart

It was when the automatic position was activated for a while that one could not make the wipers to wipe rapidly when going to the second of the two manual positions that posed a safety issue in heavy rain. As hs been reported, also by myself, Lotus has rectified this rather swiftly. It was an issue with the Bosch wiper motor that Bosch addressed correctly.

Wipers! I had a 1969 Lotus Elan many years ago. The wipers worked fine unless it was raining. Really. Several times I drove the car to work in the morning in dry weather and it was raining when I left the office. No wipers. So I would go home in the half blinded, change my clothes, go out to the garage and find that in the garage the wipers worked fine. Grrr.
Eventually, after going through the same routine multiple times I noticed that when I opened the driver's door that the interior light didn't come on. A clue at last. So I checked to see what the door light and the wipers had in common. It turns out they were both grounded in the same place and the location was a Tinnerman nut through a bulkhead to the chassis. The Tinnerman nut, by it's nature, was highly stressed and the corroded edges would absorb water and stop conducting. I replaced the nut with a real one and the problem went away.
I recommend Harry check his ground wires.

Why do we need nonsense to tell us if we're over the speed limit? We know that because the limits are so bloomin low now so anyone driving reasonably will be over them a lot of the time.
Its also even more annoying because half the time its not correct. Plenty of times my car is showing a speed limit and the posted limit is different - in a lot of 20mph's its still showing 30mph and in a lot of the places where the limit has been lowered from a 60 to a 40/50 it still says 60.
I also don't want lane keeping, automatic braking (which just seems to go off randomly on most cars fitted with it) or any of the other rubbish that you simply don't need if you're looking where you're going.
