On my first playthrough, I tried my hardest and fought my way through just about every single one of them. On my second one I just killed one or two and hightailed it. Fuck that heat.

So is nobody gonna bring up that Shepherd just randomly picks up small alien life forms and immediately uses them as weaponry? A small alien bug thing that fell out of it's canister? Must be some kind of grenade launcher! A barnacle detached from the ceiling and still alive in a specimen container? Yoink!

I mean Freeman is an MIT physicist with a PHD and 200 iq that let him kill 1000's of soldiers in addition to his suit. Seems kind of a given for him to deduce how to use alien weaponry easily not so much for Shepherd.
to be fair, Shepherd saw one of the Race X goons using the grenade launcher alien things. The Barnacle, however, was honestly odd.

@@load-bearingcoconut5586 Just before you pick Barnacle up, there is a hologram talking about research progress about detaching and handling them and that they can only get them to stick to organic matter. It's not so farfetched to think that he would think about using it to his advantage.

@@errorcode0x7a Tower survived the crash but then died (I dunno most of them are dead anyway) in the waste sector, and the medic you meet in "Friendly Fire" was probably the one who saved you after the crash. But he probably got killed by the nuke after the chapter... so yes...

The underground with giant bugs were the scariest part for me in the youth.
I am not an expert when it comes to game design. But I love how in Half Life there is always loud noises, explosions or radioactive shit under the tiles. I love that because its so surreal it has to be real somewhere. Yk what I mean?
Also there is always everything falling apart. Social systems, security systems... life systems.

Something I hate about the old Half Life games is that sometimes there's what you think is a puzzle when it's not, it gives you a Xen weapon but there's no puzzle when your first thought is "This is used to solve a puzzle here"

Opposing force is probably the hardest Half-Life game ever. Even on EASY, everything is so difficult. The Black Ops, the Voltigores, gonomes, etc.
everything is just harder.
Still one of the best HL games, tho.

nope, that's the last we ever canonically see of Shepard
fun fact: he was supposed to be in a half life 2 spin off game called "Return to Ravenholm," which entails Shepard waking up in the titular headcrab zombie-infested town and then later being helped by Father Grigori, but unfortunately the game was cancelled

I remember this game used to really bug the piss out of my cousin (who is an actual marine) The fact they keep referring to themselves as soldiers or that they refer to a corporal as "sir" and that they yelled medic instead of corpsmen. I can see how it can be annoying.
