2014 Honda Accord EX-L V6: Meet the Newest Addition!

  • While I recently praised my 1998 Honda Accord V6 for how much of a reliable daily driver it continues to be after 24 years and 200,000 miles on the road. Unfortunately, even with Honda’s reputation for reliability-an old car is still an old car. After investing thousands of dollars into maintenance and repairs over the last 4-ish years, I finally decided it was time for a big upgrade. With that being said, welcome Toni the 9th Gen Accord to the family.
    Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy the video. If you haven’t, be sure to Like, Comment, & Subscribe!

    Enjoy you car man! The V6 is a gem. I have the same 2014 EX-L V6 with the burgundy love my car have had it for 4 years now almost paid off and very little maintenance.
    If you have not read any forms or tips, here are some to get the most out of your car. The 6-Speed Auto is a good transmission however, it's recommended to get it service at the minimal every other other year or depending on mileage. I get mine done once a year or if is get close to 30K its a small investment that will pay off over time. And I can not STRESS this enough this goes for any transmission service. Do not be talked into getting a flush. Tell your service advisor you want a drain and fill with new filter. In short a flush can loosen partials which can in theory cause damage.
    Also very important to know the V6 uses a timing belt not chain and those are recommended every 60-70K miles or age. Another investment that will pay off.
    Other than that it's normal stuff. So far the only non- maintenance thing I have replaced in 4 years was a wheel bearing. So cheers to a great car best gen in my opinion. Hope you get many years out of it.

      Thanks for this! This is the newest car I’ve owned, so any tips to keep it problem-free are much appreciated! I bought it at 100k miles, and unfortunately the previous owner did every recommended service except the timing belt/water pump, so I got that taken care of myself, along with the spark plugs, valve adjustment, and fuel service. I did have the transmission drained/refilled about 5k miles ago. Coming from a 6th Gen Accord, I know how finnecky Honda’s autos can be if not maintained, so I make sure to stay on top of servicing this one. Thanks again!

    I have a ‘13 4 cylinder (same color) and just had to do the pcv valve, the seals and gaskets due to burning oil. The roughly 3 grand that I’ve put into getting it current on a repairs and maintenance this year was well worth it compared to getting a new vehicle. Is the gas mileage that big of a difference between the v6 and 4 cylinder? On paper it only looks like 2-4 mpg difference. When we did the math it didn’t seem like a huge savings but I guess maybe it would add up. We’re looking at the 2014 or 2015 Accords and trying to decide between the two engines. Also trying to wait till prices come down some. Lol!

    • @whitneythe6thgenaccord680
      @whitneythe6thgenaccord680  2 года назад +6

      So, aside from a brief test drive, I don’t have too much experience with the 4-cylinder. However I will say that the mileage isn’t terrible with the V6. I manage to get around 400 miles per full tank with more city driving than highway-without using the Eco mode. With Eco mode on, I’m sure it’s capable of getting more, but it does cut the car’s power by a good bit. Another factor to consider is the transmission-the 4-cylinder has a CVT, which tends to maximize gas mileage, but also makes the driving feel somewhat “unnatural” if you’re not accustomed to a CVT. The V6 has a conventional 6-speed automatic that feels a lot more natural. The V6 has a timing belt, whereas the 4-cylinder does not, so I’d recommend finding out if the timing belt service has been done on any V6 you might look at-particularly if it’s near, at, or over 100K Miles. Lastly, good on you all for waiting for the prices to come down-smart idea! I was in a position where I *needed* a newer vehicle and knew I wanted another Accord, so I ended up buying in the middle of the car market’s ridiculously high period-ultimately mine was $17,000 with 100K Miles and a really good service history.

On CarGurus we some some dealers lowering prices but most the cars have over 100,000 miles on them and if they have less the prices are in the $20,000 range. @@nikkiwasher7235 While I don’t know much about the CVT in these, I can say that the 6-speed auto seems to be very reliable. Mine has about 105k Miles and has had the transmission fluid serviced at the dealer-recommended intervals and still shifts smoothly. In the 4-cylinder that I drove, the car was undoubtedly as smooth as butter with the CVT, but I missed having the actual gear changes, which led me to the V6.
