- On Tuesday, we’re discussing not thinking about your body size at all and just focusing on where you’re currently at. Real fam, does this work for you or are you constantly thinking about your body?
“Of course you don’t think about your body. You look like that.” This statement was quite ignorant. Everyone has insecurities, even people you find beautiful.
Big facts
I totally agree with this! Very insensitive to eating disorders it mental not only physical!
this is so true, you can look "great" and "skinny" and still have body dysmorphia
Jameela in this case actually suffered through anorexia and is a big advocate for loving the body we're in. I'm glad Jeannie spoke on body dysmorphia.
@Eriss R. Uh, what are you talking about? Adrienne meant that Jameela didn't have a reason to worry about her body because many would say she is beautiful and fit.
She said she stopped thinking about her body image not her health and weight. Those are separate things.
Good point!
that's exactly what i was thinking, i feel like they misunderstood the point
Yes but the ladies of the real were right in their criticism that , it's easy to stop thinking about it when she has the conventional body standard and therefore isn't constantly hated upon or reminded that she's ugly or inadequate
Good point
Awww I’m a miss “ Why y’all laughing/ Why you laughing loni?” 😂😂🥺🥺
😂😂😂😂😂💯💯💯
I interpreted her quote differently. I think she meant that she focuses more on what she’s eating and making sure she eats healthy, instead of basing her health off of her body image
Exactly, and she used to be overweight too.
They should have hired Tisha Campbell as one of the new host. She is so down to earth and has great energy!
Just because someone doesn’t focus on how their body looks doesn’t mean they don’t focus on how their body feels
Don’t talk crap about my girl Jameela like that. Y’all always say you don’t know what people are going through.
I don’t think they meant it like that
Tammy Dang like Jameela says “if a skinny woman can’t speak on body image and a fat woman gets taunted about speaking on body image...who the hell is going to?”
I’m crossing my fingers that Garcelle will be a good fit.
@Eriss R. The new host's name is Garcelle Beauvais.
How did you guys not understand?🙃 She meant don't judge how your body looks. Focus on what you eat. Eat healthy and don't be motivated by how you look. She just eats right and accepts whatever body she has by eating the right food
I remember watching this episode in particular & thinking to myself that this is the perfect reason why every human being that's walking the earth right now should just keep to themselves & hideaway from the public
I agree with what Loni and Adrienne said - there is a serious single motherhood problem in the U.S. that needs to be addressed - like *YESTERDAY*
Adrienne looks extra good in this segment 😍
Ariana Grande vibes.
It doesn't matter what Jameela looks like. What they need to understand is that she had an eating disorder. Recovery includes changing the way YOU view YOUR body, not it's actual size
Exactly 💯💯👏🏽👏🏽
I just want to say that I think most people have body dysmorphia. As a gay guy I know I have it, most of my gay friends have it. Along with alot of straight men.
Body dysmorphia is suffered by both, as Hollywood and the media have put a perfect body type for both sexes.
Trust me, us humans...we’re secretly all in the same boat 😰
@Eriss R. I never tried to deflect the problem and say we had it 'worse' but I was anorexic at 14, still struggle with body dysmorphia at 25. Anorexia is a disease that doesn't discriminate between the sexes. In gay culture eating disorders are huge. In straight culture alot of men suffer from muscle dysmorphia a variant of BDD. How about not saying one has it worse then another and realise that it's a struggle alot of people face 🙄 that men should be included in the conversation.
Don't mind that person. What you're saying is completely valid.
I agree. Just stop thinking about bodies.
all i know is you guys work really hard and have it together with these conversations I love it!
This show about to be "The Real Old Ladies"
But the thing is...I’m still about to watch it lol
Akbar, if you don't have anything nice/ positive to say I suggest keep ur mouth closed.
@@MJ-stargazer25 What's not nice about his comment?!
Y'all people are too sensitive.
@@jesusmywholehaschanged Do I really have to say? The Real Old Ladies comment. If it were men it'd be mature/wise men....but for women it's old? 40's/50's is NOT old.
@@MJ-stargazer25 what is mean about old? I would love to be granted long life and someone call me old. Again, y'all are too sensitive.
Most of their comments on both topics are ignorant and rude.
When your the same age as Tamera and she looks 20.
I got to an awesome place with my body, but when I stopped thinking about it I gained everything back. It’s devastating
Adrienne don’t talk on Jameela like that.
@Eriss R. k
Dawnn Guray lmao that person is pressed on my comment defending Jameela too. The Real be speaking out of turn on such an accomplished woman, she should be a guest host some day
She’d be a great guest.
I find it funny how Adrienne talks about what Jameela is saying like she knows a lot about health, but in her RUclips channel she displays a really unhealthy relationship with food
@King Chicken She was not "chunky" b4 and she def isn't now. This is an old video. Prob b4 her diet. But her comments are still ignorant.
So it’s okay for a Lizzo to accept her body but when a Jamill does she’s being cocky and it’s easy to accept 🙄
I think Garcelle will fit in great with the show--I was rooting for Eva Marcelle or Keke Palmer, just my opinion
Jupiter Jewelz She would be AMAZING!
@Eriss R. It is confirmed, Garcelle Beauvais is the newest host
@Eriss R. That's rude lol
@Eriss R. Hm 🙁 I was rooting for Tisha or Yvette 'cause of their good chemistry with the other hosts
I love these girls however I am not watching the show since Tamera is leaving ,it just won’t be the same without her.
I get what she was trying to say, but you should be body positive. Not so much that you lie to yourself but be the healthiest version of you and don't compare yourself. I understand some of what they were saying. Just not paying attention to your body does not work for everybody and can even be dangerous. Paying attention does not mean judging yourself.
I'm annoyed at the lack of research on Jamila's history and her relationship with her body. This was painful to watch ugh.
I love u guys😘 all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
Jeanie😍😘
Tamera is too adorable ;) I love her lol
When you look like that it’s easy to say “let’s not worry about body image” that’s similar to a wealthy person saying, it’s not about the money, that’s not what’s really important.
Jeannie made a good point about some people having to think about food/eating to make sure they are eating enough, eating when hungry etc. I think that's a great point that some people with past 'disordered' patterns of thinking as she put it have to think on these topics. But beyond that I enjoy this show but WHENEVER the topic of weight or diets come up I cannot take these women's opinions too seriously. These women are under high pressure to look a certain way. Just as a regular person were under such scrutiny to look a very certain way. With that being said I dont think the ladies on this show offer the most body positive or body accepting viewpoints and I actually wish the topic of weight, dieting eating habits etc didnt come up on this show as much. I dont think average people need to get their advice about dieting and eating habits from women under such high scrutiny. Whether or not they realize it segments like this and such a focus on these topics specifically in media targetter towards women creates more unnecesary attention to this topic for women and more insecurity and issues in my opinion.
I think they have to realize that compatibility doesn’t matter when you are trying to keep you and your children afloat!
I am Tam! Tam is me!!!! And Adrienne was on point with the truth about Jamilla’s body
I couldn’t be on this show I’d call all of them out and be like..wait why you being shady rn 🤔
Given this is a show with women of color and diversity, The Real should probably consider picking a cohost who is from a culture or race that is different from what is already represented, for example, a South Asian woman or a non American woman of color. It would contribute to richer conversations. Just a thought.
I agree!! Other religions too :)
Kavya Prakash you mean ethnicity???
No thanks
@@nkt.11 nope I meant religions. Because all they talk about is from the perspective of christianity. I'll be nice to see what a Buddhist has to say or an atheist. :)
@stan 1 oh how I wish. 🤣
I cant stand Loni's negatively at times like this. It's a practical idea. Not everyone has the money you do. And what do you mean make the dads take care of the kids? I cant force my daughters dad to be in her life. That's not how the world works
I’m not really comfortable that Jeannie said most of women have body dysmorphia. BD is a real mental disorder and yes a lot of people have issues with the way they look and see themselves in the worse way but that doesn’t mean they have a disorder, never self diagnose yourself.
LMAO did Loni say a "DuVernay Cover" and a belt??! 6:25
Being a *'clean freak'* and struggling with *OCD* are two different things, for fucks sake. OCD is not an adjective, it's a mental illness. People with OCD that clean, do it with utter misery 'cause *they feel compelled* to do so, not because they love cleaning.
You all know right that anorexia has a huge angle of body image issues in it. Like literally , it's not like they ain't eating cos they hate fries . They view themselves and their bodies different from what is reality. I think that's the reason she said this, cos she's struggled with anorexia and like helping patients reach a point where they no longer think of their body is the ultimate goal of treatment.
Here is the thing: the body positive movement goes about this issue in the wrong way. Body positive people say that everyone's body is beautiful and it implies that peoples bodies NEED to be called beautiful or attractive to be valued. That is just not the case. We should take away the relation from the looks of one's body to that person's value and say that a person's value does not come from their body.
Well first of all I just wanna say Congratulations to friend of the show GARCELLE BEAUVAIS who is now going to be a HOST of the show in September ♥️🙏🏾
What they're saying is kind of wrong the reason Jamila doesn't think about her body it is her way of pushing past her eating disorder. They never actually do the research before jumping into a conversation
Naya Rivera would have been the perfect cohost 😭😭😭😭💔 her sass, honesty and confidence would have been a perfect fit. Heartbreaking. I don’t even know these other people that are guest co-hosts.
May Naya rest in peace.
TAM LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL HERE!!!
“Of course, you don’t think about your body, you look like that” I didn’t like that. She spoke about her struggle with food and probably focused on her body image all the time and she’s come to a point in her life where she's realised that thinking about it all the time is time-consuming and you could be focused on so many other things that would probably benefit you.
There are people who can't gain much weight even if they eat a lot. OMG I'm shooked by the amount of ignorance here.
Hi Loni! There is also a question of conflict. What happens when there is a fight? How do we ensure that people execute their obligations when they want to walk off in a huff? I find in a group there are beavers and a few pieces of of dead wood. Momune sounds like a great idea but in execution... I agree with you.
I feel tam once u get told by a doctor you have a moment and that noise happens that inhale it real
This is really bugging me because they didn't understand what Jamila meant AT ALL, they really should've done more reserch it been given more facts!
I think the "momune" is a really cool concept but it should be temporary. Not something the single parent should rely on for years and years. And 'temporary' means different lengths of time to different people. Some may need it for a few weeks- months, but others may need it for a couple years.
I’m the opposite! I think myself as thinner than I am but I am way over weight
No shade to Garcelle, but Tisha has a more youthful and fun energy that would’ve been better for this show. She also seems to gel well with the other ladies.
I really wish they’d add a 20 year old co host, they need a younger point of view
These women are so rick speaking about issues that low-income single women are going through.
The truth is, correcting our thoughts about food and health is necessary but trying to reach 'body goals' (whatever it is for that year) is not.
The comments in this video really hurt my feelings... I didn't expect this from them at all...
My only issue is that I feel like we weren't given enough context about what Jameela meant when she said that. Maybe she meant she stopped "obsessing" over food/her body in a context that went beyond her physical health? Idk I just feel like she needed to clarify that and maybe she did, who knows. I think what people need to do is consult a professional and let the experts tell you about health and not the media....that's what I'm doing with my spouse now.
The key to being and looking fit that many people miss is lifting heavy weights. Many women think they will become bulky, but that’s a misconception. To put it simply, you won’t suddenly become bulky when you start lifting. That’s something intentional that happens when you eat more than you need. I could go on about this forever. Anyway, lift heavy weights!!!
I know you are coming from a good place, but lifting weights is one of the least important parts of weight loss. It’s helpful, but BMI and fat percentages are mostly based on dietary patterns
pinkdlipstick I never mentioned weight loss in my comment. Anyway, it is false to say that “lifting weights is one of the least important parts of weight loss.” Please do some research. I have done a ton. Lifting weights and having muscle increases your TDEE. You burn more Calories while at rest.
@@gaila.9852 I went to med school sweetie, I have done my research
pinkdlipstick 1. Do not call me sweetie. 2. You ought to do some more.
I wish before they do these segments they would research Jamila better. Because sadly Adrienne doesn't understand what Jamila was saying in full. They take a snippet and have a whole conversation about it. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ If you want to learn a little more about her, check out her insta and RUclips pages iweigh
I think she meant, if she focused on her body image instead of her talent she wouldn't be where she is now. Its quite ignorant, to say she don't have any insecurities just because she's beautiful. And I fully agree with jameela, because some people are so focused on their looks, that they actually loose themselves and forget all about their talents. Everybody should be able to love their bodies, but when it comes to skinny people, people get mad.
Jeannie and Adrienne talk way too much without knowing facts.. just keep going around and around. Loni speaks from facts.. let’s hope this show can keep going.. but who knows now
Lila Ber but Jeannie didn’t speak with emotion or with some sort of envy involved... she actually did speak about something most women go through and body dysmorphia
Myronn Coleman they didn’t bother doing their research at all and it’s not only this chat, Amanda Tam and Loni are the ones that stay on topic now both are gone it’s going to be a lot of fluff
Lila Ber idk about “only “ Loni for sure... Tam sometimes does tangents , Jeannie & Amanda most of the time expand the conversation beyond the surface question which is they’re good sparring partners when they don’t agree sometimes and Adrienne just follows the best of her own drum she says what she says and when she hears others she ends up leaving with a different perspective from her own
High cholesterol isn’t about weight though.... that doctor is out of line lol. It’s not about losing ten pounds it’s about having a healthy lifestyle. If you eat healthy and eat enough to nourish your body, and move your body and exercise regularly, that’s YOUR healthy. And everybody’s healthy looks different. It’s not about numbers. That type of thinking IS toxic. They should be more aware of eating disorders when these topics come up. We have to model healthy relationships with food for the next generation of women.
I wish Tisha could be the 5th host 😩
I love this!!!
I feel like this many choices get upside down cause i had child out of wed lock an my mother Lord rest her soul she adopted her but my mother passed away an my Grandma raising her she is 16 i wished i was able to have raised her but loads of choices and living lifestyle never was on drugs just poor living lifestyle and me having disability to i pray one day i find job get off social security and better environment and get my teeth fixed I'm from chicago illinois!!!
You guys are so amazing and hilarious
Tamera hair 😍😍😍
Imu Tam Tam🥺💚
Did Loni say ‘duvernay’ cover?
I wish she was the new co host!
Why do you all keep showing all of these old episodes of the real
Because theyre still on their summer break
If Kim K said this or Beyonce they would be like “yes gurl” but they don’t know her thats why they were being ignorant. It’s really not nice of them😞
Saying it doesn’t matter if you’re size 2 or 22 as long as you’re healthy, is a contradiction in terms. Scientifically, a size 22 can NOT be healthy, even if they eat healthy, as their BMI will be classed as obese. Whereas a size 2 can in theory be healthy. It’s just facts, no one is fat shaming but I think we need to stop this warped way of thinking that 300lbs can be healthy, it never can.
It doesn't matter. Im a size 18 and Im healthy. I get blood work every year and it comes back good. My weight hasn't taken a toll on my body. I know skinny people that are not healthy at all. 😊
@@SuckerPunch92 I understand and I personally love a thicker body and a mm thick myself, but you are either very lucky or problems will manifest at a later stage
@@Katie-xl1rb Indeed I am. Im not active but I do try to eat decent
I would have liked it if they actually did research into Jameela. They would've then known about her anorexia, to gaining weight and being constantly fat shamed by the UK media for a long time. She has been saying these things for years but her point is that society didn't listen to her talking about body ambiguity until she was thin. SMH you guys, just a little research is needed when it's a more serious topic.
Wow SHAME ON YOU! Who ever laughed when loni was telling her story and mentioned shes always been a big person since preschool. What was that about.
