    These tutorials are very user friendly. I'm not a novice flyer myself but these are very accessible for beginners. There's often tutorials from people that do not know how to articulate the information in such a way that people can assimilate it easily. But that's not the case here. Good stuff 👍

    This really helped me figure out flying without the MSFS autopilot which is honestly a buggy mess, this has more controls available and most importantly doesn't go vertical for no reason which is how I have had a few flights end early. Plus you can actually descend before reaching the airport which the MSFS autopilot seems to have trouble with so you end up overshooting the airport by a couple hundred km if you aren't careful
    Other tutorials I just couldn't wrap my head around, this explains it really well

    Subscribed!! I have to learn the dang plane to get the Asobo to Seattle achievement lol. Literally let my co-pilot fly the entire flight, and they did really well. Except, when they were supposed to land, they didn't think they needed to decrease speed. So, hitting that runway at 250+knots, destroyed the landing gear. Hence, 9+hr flight went fruitless.

    For me, the autoland just decided to nosedive into the runway. Everything goes smoothly until the very last point, about 10 feet above the runway, but then it goes down for some reason instead of holding height and descending naturally. It's an ILS approach, KDMA to LRAX, RWY 25L. I could of course land it myself, or hold the stick to stabilize touchdown, but I just thought the Autoland function would've been so cool if it worked. Might've just been an unlucky attempt or a bugged runway, but still. Feels bad

    • @thecorporatepilotdad

      I do not think VNAV does a whole lot of anything with the default aircraft. It is extremely limited with the 787. You would press VNAV and set the bottom altitude and wait for VPATH to capture. Great vid and info. Thanks. I had a bit of confusion with the Dreamliner last night. I was flying in to KATL and every time I tried to click APP or LOC the plane would try and turn the opposite direction and I was looking at the landing plate on Navigraph. I should have been picking up the GS. Any idea why that might happen? Thanks again.

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  3 года назад +1

      It is hard to say. In the 787 if you hit LNAV it follows the GPS route. If you press LOC/FAC on the far right side of the flight guidance panel, it will ignore the GPS/FMC route and intercept the localizer. Once you're cleared for the approach or in this example, on the localizer, reach up and press APPR on the panel. I haven't used the 787 in quite a while but when I did use it in FS2020, that's what should make it work correctly. The LOC/FAC button is the solution, I believe. I think button and it's explanation is at the end of the video. You did say you pressed APP and or LOC and had that problem so if you already tried this, let me know.

      @@thecorporatepilotdad well, that got complicated lol. At the end I put the localizer but apparently that was too late. I was flying from KDFW-KATL. I’ve been looking all over the internet for this but I can’t find an answer. Is there a way to enable the managed speed mode where the auto throttle responds to flap changes? • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  2 года назад

      When ATs are engaged it should adjust power to maintain the set speed regardless of flap settings. In managed speed mode(speed being controlled by the FMC waypoints/speeds on SID/STAR), I don’t believe the B787 in MSFS will hold speed with the FMC.

    • @Spaceguy-nineteensixtynine
      @Spaceguy-nineteensixtynine 2 года назад

      @@thecorporatepilotdad Just to make sure I’m getting this right (there’s a good chance I’m not), the 787 doesn’t have a managed speed mode in the same sense as airbus? If so that’s odd because on multiple occasions it has adjusted the speed based on flap increases/decreases.

    • @thecorporatepilotdad
      @thecorporatepilotdad  2 года назад

      @@Spaceguy-nineteensixtynine the speed does adjust on the airspeed tape showing the max speed for given flap settings as flaps are added. I don’t believe it is capable of adjusting speed with ATs on an arrival with a particular speed at a waypoint due MSFS programming. For example, the airplane I fly in real life has auto throttles and they can be set to follow the speeds on an arrival in the FMS (managed) or set a speed manually with the speed bug (selected). The Airbus works this way but I do not believe the B787 in MSFS will do anything but selected speed set by the speed bug.

      LNAV will follow the localizer. Approach mode will follow the loc and glide slope. In the real world, APPR is pressed when cleared for the approach. My biggest problem is holding correct altitude in the 787. It's supposed to have a standard baro button but I can only adjust it. I reach fl40 and atc tells me I'm 500 feet above so I blindly adjust baro pressure until I'm no longer being yelled at by atc. Then once they stop yelling, a few minutes later I'm again 300 feet or so above my FL. Despite me using altitude hold, it still does this. I know I'm using it wrong but the button that's supposed to be a standard "the std baro button" baro measurement doesn't on xbox. I've searched everywhere for info and fixes, but to no avail. It followed the course through the video and the ILS at the end. The course on the MFD was offset a small amount toward the end of the video, but the localizer needle was centered. Which part in the video didn’t follow the FMC course that you’re having trouble with in your sim? For left right course LNAV needs to be selected and APPR for ILS and LPV approaches. I noticed that when I switched to cursor mode by clicking the left stick and started rotating and moving the camera/cursor that the yoke would also slightly move. I believe that these small movements are enough to mess with the autopilot and cause it to randomly turn to the left or right. @@thecorporatepilotdad turns out it's a bug when a controller is plugged in, for some reason, it is oversensitive when AP is turned on and causes banking even when not the controller is not touched, the fix is to recalibrate the controller in windows then set a dead zone in the sim of 25%

    Great vid! Very informative. I'm learning to fly this atm (on MSFS of course)
    My only gripe about this plane is the throttle up button (A) on the controller flips up the HUD when your view/cam is reset to center.
    I don't have a Hotas yet so It's a nuisance. Other than that, it's an amazing plane.

      A lot of people like it but just wait until the CJ4 Working TItle mod comes to XBOX (I hope someday soon). That airplane is very functional compared to the B787 in terms of avionics. I rarely fly the B787 because it is so limited in terms of functionality.
