    Maybe reach out to Miles from AM Auto or Al from The Skid Factory, Noosaville is 2 hours from Ipswich although they would be more willing to work with you I'd imagine, Plus if you are only going to them for major work it wouldn't be too often you have to drive that far.

      Already did for the both of them. I used to live in Noosa and took my cars to AM. Miles named his "affiliation with MCM" as the reason why he didn't get involved, and Al said he only has time to tackle the big projects which you see on the Skid Factory, which is fair enough.

    I have done two clutches in last month on two different cars , a peugeot 206 and a Toyota Corolla , not a 2 person job I have a transmission jack which makes it simple , and really I would do it for $360 and that’s machining the flywheel and torquing everything down to spec , I do very good quality work from home , the corolla I did a workshop quoted him $800 I did it for $550 all inclusive parts and labour and that was with a rear main seal , red coolant and also new gearbox oil, peugeot I did I had to source another gearbox as the throw out bearing self destructed putting a hole through the gearbox , the thing is if you leave clutches they can actually destroy your gearbox, if you have the whole clutch kit and supply parts I would do this job for $300 and I don’t need your help, also those clutch plates if worn the springs in them are rattling or loose also a sign they are stuffed it may not always be clutch plate surface , also testing clutches you put it in highest gear handbrake on and if you let clutch out and car does not stall clutch is no good that’s how you test the clutch .

    • @MotoringBoxTV

    As I mentioned in one of your earlier clips about this car I own the V8 twin of your turbo and I replaced the clutch in mine not so long ago with an up rated heavier duty version and what I found is how heavy the pedal became which took a lot of getting used to. ( I don’t really like it ) I took it for a service a few weeks ago and the mechanic ( who didn’t do the clutch) told me there was big issues with it until I told him that it was a stage 2 kit. In my case the car is not a nice driver anymore and I’m going to sell it as I don’t want to pay the money to replace it again as I have spent nearly $10k rebuilding the driveline in it along with all the bushes etc. They can be expensive if not maintained properly.

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  3 года назад +1

      Sorry to hear that mate, that was something I was really worried about. Sometimes my left knee can be a bit weird so I didn't want a heavier pedal. It'd be a shame of you had to sell the car because of it, but sure throwing another $2k to fix the issue is a substantial amount. But after investing as much as you have, perhaps spending a bit more is better than the loss you'd make on selling an otherwise perfectly sorted car to someone else?

    I just went for this exact same clutch for my bf mk2 XR6 that I did a turbo conversion on. At 230rwkw the stock n/a clutch wasn't the happiest. I also wanted a smooth "stock feel" driving experience, which is why I went for the ACS extreme. It's a bit heavier than the factory n/a clutch, but still definitely smooth with a big engagement point.

    Mal Wood alloy slave cylinder is a worthwhile purchase. They're a weak point of T56/TR6060 Falcons and the gearbox has to be removed to repair them if they leak. I wish I had done that with my FG instead of going with another standard CSC.

      Yup it's true. I am actually not looking to film a mechanic to make a full on DIY tutorial video though. Like with the clutch change, it would have just been the car going up on the hoist, and then a few quick shots of the work and then 10 seconds later the gearbox coming down out of the car. I mostly wanted to get the old clutch assembly on a bench and talk to them about it, and compare to the new one. It's that sort of knowledge that I'm after, rather than just filming every little thing they do.

Just like you, my friction point on the old clutch was all the way at the top and after the new clutch went in, it was so close to the bottom that I had to re-learn the clutch and stalled many times. Couple questions if you don’t mind. How many km’s did the factory clutch last? And are you still happy with the xtreme a year on, extra pedal pressure doesn’t effect drivability/bother you?
    Cheers, Phil

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  2 года назад +1

      Still performing well. To me the pedal pressure hasn't been a big issue.. it was definitely heavier, but not by a huge amount. It kind of suits how everything else in the car feels. The car had 125k on the clock at the time, so I can only assume the clutch which came out was factory.

    What did you think of the R34? How does it compare to the XR6?

    • @MotoringBoxTV
      @MotoringBoxTV  3 года назад +1

      The R34 was obviously smaller, felt lighter and was more nimble. But being a 2.5L with a small turbo meant it was on boost more often and didn't really pin you back into your seat like the XR6T does. I think I prefer the Falcon, it's bigger, softer, more comfortable but the larger engine with a largish turbo really changes things up.
