Here's my question. Would this work for an all dirt basement? There is no electrical hook up for miles. Totally off grid. Generator available but concrete mixer not possible do to terrain. If not what is available to seal dirt floor and walls?
How do you clean this type of floor? Can you mop it like tile and what cleaner should be used to not damage it? Will there need to be future reapplications of the linseed oil?
The linseed oil will seal, waterproof and harden the floor. After that you can sweep, mop etc. There shouldn't be a need t re-apply unless you have to make a repair.
We only used 2 coats of linseed oil...that's all you need! You can walk on it after about 3 days, and it will continue to harden over the next three months. There's no need for any coating. The hot oil bonds with the earth and hardens. It is waterproof and very durable :)
We put 4 coats of boiled linseed oil on our earthen floor.
Can this be used on walls as well or just floors? (Viscosity etc)
What coverage did you get per gallon? How many coats?
How much linseed oil would I need for a 196 sf room?
10 gallons for all coats. 5 gallons per 100sqft. Can do half that if the floor doesn’t need to be very hard.
