  • This is a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z 1LE that just underwent a full rotisserie restoration! Only 111 1LE Camaros were made in 1989 and just 1,360 were made over the four-year production run.

    This is a Canadian Players Challenge Race car. Exhaust is correct. Radio, power windows correct as noted on the SPID. What makes this a different 1LE is code R7U.

      Thanks. I am not a 3rd Gen Camaro expert but had a feeling that the Players Challenge option would have changed the 2 cat exhaust system.

    • @RSAW73
      @RSAW73 Год назад

      The series allowed a 2 year run on the cars. 1988 cars did not have the dual cat exhaust, so they had to keep it the same on the 1989 cars to not give any advantage.

    Beautiful restoration, the only thing I noticed missing was the twin cat exhaust, 1LE came with this if memory serves plus radio delete and fog lamps. Other than this the factory wasn't this nice. Perfect job. Cheers

      Thank you! I believe that because this car has the R7U/Players Challenge option that the exhaust system is different.

    Beautiful restoration! I expected to see the dual cat exhaust setup when we were looking underneath it. Maybe that was 5.7/ performance axle ratio pkg only as I just noticed this was a 5.0 TPI 5-speed. I had a Yellow '85 IROC-Z TPI back in '85 and then a Yellow '87 5.7 IROC-Z TPI with gold accents and tan leather, Delco Bose. Ordered it from Steakley Chevrolet in Dallas, TX. It was built Jan 19, 1987 and was delivered Jan 29th. I miss it some whenever I see these cars again. We used to race around near the Forest Lane area back in the day. Good times.

      @tg8150 Everything else in that day was even slower, dude. Outside of the "exotics" only a handful of production cars on the road could beat it. I know. I also had one brand new right off the showroom floor.

    • @danielfair4675
      @danielfair4675 11 месяцев назад

      @tg8150 lol, it's not well known. Let me give you some info from someone who had 1 of each. 😁
      I ordered both new ... an '87 5.7 IROC & then a '91 5-speed GT.
      I had both those cars as a pair until 1998 when I sold the GT an got a new Toyota 4 Runner Limited.
      They ran virtually identical 1/4 miles & trapped nearly identical speeds. They were also separated by less than 1 mph on top speed.
      I quartered them at Kil-Kare Dragway in Xenia, OH more than a few times.
      The only noticeable big difference was in handling at anything over 100 mph.
      Because of a solid rear axle the GT was a driving mess, the IROC on the other hand was glued to the road.
      Granted this wasn't on a perfectly smooth stretch of asphalt, but it was quite noticeable.
      I do have pics of them sitting side x side in my driveway back in the day.
      Camaro was Bright Blue Metallic & the Mustang was Medium Red.

    THE RPO CODE SHEET will end the debate about 1LE. There is a code for AC delete and radio delete. The car IS NOT a 1LE if there is a radio RPO code… AC delete and Radio Delete AUTOMATICALLY triggered the 1 LE Option which you paid for….1 LE option included 4 wheel corvette disc brakes and the dual Cat exhaust system. There is an RPO CODE. For aluminum drive shaft and baffled fuel tank. No 1 LE car came with power anything. They were basic optioned cars.
    Also the 1 LE car had a small badge located on the front fender behind the wheel, the badge was drilled Into the fender leaving holes if removed.
    Thanks and have a nice day

    You, Sir are the only person on RUclips to restore one of these and not paint over the body stripes and decals like a dumb ass....That's how people differentiate these from the rest of the crappy Camaros from this generation. Can we remember that this the second lowest performance point for Camaros in history? Can we remember how bad the Mustang on the foxbody platform would do these in a light to light race? Can we remember that the only Camaro worth owning from '82 to '90 was an IROC-Z? So if you keep those things in mind, you should know that if you destroy your badges and decals you look like you're driving a sh***y Rally Sport.
