You're probably a few weeks into by the time I write this. But I worked in security for many years, and the habit from that work was that I was always scanning the room. When playing a game, my eyes are always continually scanning the screen. My daughter also said this has helped her gameplay, It took her a bit of practice to look at something then scan the rest of the screen and then back, instead of getting tunnel vision. Your brain gets better at registering the details
If you select the Targeting Control System skill you’ll be able to pinpoint (close up view) of the selected enemy ship for specific damage. The enemy will continue to hit yours but I found it easier to destroy the ship.
They probably should improve the ship flight Tutorial. Like "objective, adjust speed, Objective Adjust power" So on and so forth, just to make sure people UNDERSTAND what they want you to do. Cus as it stands now it just rushes though everything with no REAL context to what the game is talking about or wants you to do. But hay, second times the Charm. Heck i can TYPE a better tutorial then that. So here's the quick version for anyone else watching this: 1. You have 6 systems in the bottom left of the screen: Las (Laser weapons), Bal (Ballistic weapons), MSL (Missile weapons), ENG (engine), SLD (Shield) and GRV (Grave Drive) As you can see the Discovery has 14 power pips and you can distribute those into these 6 systems as long as you have POWER PIPS available. 2. In the Bottom left of the Central HUD, is your ships Speed gauge. Next to the speed Gadge is a bar with a WHITE section in the middle, that is the "sweet spot" for your ship to have Maximum turning ability in a "dogfight" (dog fight in space? Yeah sounds about right.) 3. Laser weapons are grate VS Sheilds, Ballistic Weapons are grate VS the Hull and Missiles are general Purpose but require a Lock On. Keep the enemy near the middle of your screen to lock on and fire a missile, other weapons will also auto lock to the target. 4. Their are at least 2 perks that unlock additional features (that im aware of so far, just been watching videos since the game isnt out yet). "Targeting System" and "Piloting". The first rank of Targeting System unlocks the ability to target Specific systems of a ship, the Engines for example. The first rank of Piloting unlocks the ability to use the ships Maneuvering Thrusters, In short you can move in 3D rather then just going forward. (up, down, left and right) Additionally, investing into rank 3 and 4 of Piloting also unlocks better PARTS. You start with access to A class parts, but with rank 3 you unlock B Class parts and rank 4 gets you access to C class parts.
BGS should have really made 3rd person default for 1st space fight, much easier to take in surroundings, especially when starting space combat for 1st time
I'm wondering if the little glowy bit next to the throttle is the sweet spot that is the best balance between speed and maneuverability. Maybe if you leave it there and tune the engines to keep it there you can boost your offense and defenses a bit more
@@WastelandDovahkiin Not the BEST space flight tutorial iv ever seen. It kinda rushes you though it without explaining everything clearly. Then it throw not 1 but THREE pirate ships at you.
Just an FYI, your speed is way to fast for frying combat, maneuvering is the key. Hint, keep the speed halfway. As a bounty hunter play through, your going to need to keep that in mind...
I try to center that and then keep my hands off the left joystick. It is too tempting to try to use it to look around and just end up maximizing speed and crippling maneuverability

following lin right out the airlock in stes dof actually looking around is a red flag for a game where you're meant to explore. just makes it seem like you're going to pay zero attention to your surroundings when you start off by doing just that
The mark of a terrible tutorial is seeing everyone get blown up multiple times and STILL not understanding the basic mechanics. Here's a couple of points -- -- The lower left of the circle has a "Speed" number and a slider for the Throttle. This is your Thrust Control. Going too fast or too slow will make it harder to turn. The bulge next to the Throttle Control is the "sweet spot" for maneuvers. 90% of the time, you just want to leave the Throttle line right in the middle of that spot. -- You don't need to keep fiddling with Energy bars. Set at the start of the fight and forget it. Yes, if you had an extra pair of hands/eyes you could optimize, but it's not worth the time and energy it takes away from actual dogfighting. -- There are 3 weapon systems on the Frontier. Rapid-fire Lasers, slower Ballistic Cannon, and a Missile pod. All 3 can be fired at once. The basic idea is to knock out the shields with Lasers, and follow up with Ballistics to break the hull. The Missiles are opportunity weapons. You will see an open square when the targeting system is trying to lock-on. This becomes a solid square, and you may fire at any time. Note - You CAN fire all weapons all of the time. They regenerate unless they are damaged. [You can perform boarding actions, as well.] --- There seems to be a disconnect with people understanding the difference between Engine Power and Engine Thrust. The energy bars for the engine determine the ship's maximum output. The Throttle is what really controls the Speed. Yes, depriving the engines of energy will cause the ship to stop. Lowering the Thrust Control will put on the brakes and stop the ship, now. --- Despite the fact that both sticks are used for controlling the ship, this is a "Single Stick Control Scheme". Most of the time, you just need the right stick. This simulates the mouse control scheme. Basically, you should be always moving forward, anyways, so you just need to aim. Like you are auto-running cuz your left hand is cramping. 1 more tip I shall keep ... vague - Loot every body. Read every Note. Lots of interesting things to find.
Thanks! I've already gotten about 7 more hours into the game since I recorded this first episode, so I've had more chances to practice flying, and I think I've got it figured out now.

You can target debris just like ships so you can fly to the. Just cycle through everything in the vicinity
