- Hey guys, I'm Ryosuke! I’m a Japanese guy who’s crazy about food!
I used to be a professional boxer, so I know how important it is to eat healthy dishes that give you lots of energy!
Today I want to show you my recipe for CHICKEN TERIYAKI! It’s so simple and delicious, anyone can make it at home!
I hope you enjoy and tell me what recipes you want to see in the comments!
Special thanks to my friend Nicholas Pettas who helped me film my boxing scene - you can check out our video together here:
• Getting punched in the...
Ingredients:
- 1 Large Chicken Thigh (skin on)
- Potato Starch
- ½ Green Onion
- 1tbsp of Cooking Sake
- 2 tsp of brown sugar
- 1 & ½ tbsp of water
- 1 & ½ tbsp of soy sauce
- 2 tsp of honey
How to make:
- Cut off any fatty parts of one large chicken thigh (skin on)
- Cover the chicken thigh in potato (or corn) starch on both sides and sprinkle with salt and pepper
- Make your sauce by mixing your cooking sake, brown sugar, water, soy sauce and honey and mixing them
- Heat some olive oil in a frying pan on a medium heat and put the chicken in skin side down
- Add your green onions and cook the chicken until the skin is golden brown and crispy (be careful not to burn the onions!)
- Turn the chicken over, set aside the green onions and continue to cook the chicken on a low heat with the lid on - for about 3 minutes
- Take the chicken out of the pan - wipe away the excess fat and then put them back in with the sauce
- Let that simmer with the lid on for about 5 minutes
- Cover the chicken in sauce and you’re done!
Hey guys! What other Japanese recipes do you want to see?
subscribing right now! katsudon maybe? thank you for this channel!
Oyakodon! Easily one of Japan's most underrated dishes!
Anything! I want to see more!
Mirin glazed salmon! Last time i try making it somehow its a mess..
Subscribed, would love to see your take on tonkotsu ramen, as everyone seems to have a unique riff on it 😋
Congrats on your first video mate! What a fantastic start to the series. Looking forward to seeing what you're able to cook up over the coming weeks and months! 🥳
(Especially if it involves fried chicken).
Admit it! You only hope to be featured in some videos to get more food for free Chris! =D
Anyways great video Ryosuke! Looking forward for more :)
Please make fried chicken
Make chicken karage pls i want chris to rejoice
Even Chris Broad can't mess this dish up ... I hope 😏
I see another 'Abroad in a pan' special coming
The 39 dislikes are people Ryosuke destroyed in boxing matches
Edit: Well this didn't age well
Most likely
Your profile picture confused me thinking it was a persona reference 😂
Looks like he got another knockout
Make that 10
@@Nocxys He just keeps beating ppl I can't keep up
I think we need to say thank you to Chris for introducing us to his friend. He looks like a nice guy how can learn a lot from
Thanks for your comment! Maybe Chris will be on this channel someday. I'm looking forward to that time;)
I just found this channel, and I love it. I really enjoy the presentation.
I like how he is casually flexing his belt
Yup
If I'd earned a belt that bad ass, you'd best believe I'd be wearing it every chance I got too.
That he's doing it as he throws open the door and invites us in to share his knowledge and skills for us all to learn from is the kind of thing a TRUE champion does.
Are former boxers allowed to keep their belts? Cause didn't Angela Lee from MMA give up her belt?
I love this dude immediately. He explains things well and sees like a super cool guy. I also appreciate the recipe in the description. I’d love to see a couple simple fried rice recipes. I’m always looking to step up my game on that.
Hi, thanks for the comment! Fried rice is not a Japanese food, but I'd like to introduce Japanese cooked rice in the near future;)
@@ChampsJapaneseKitchen That sounds awesome!
i was just about to comment this, i just looked up heaps of recipes and this is the only one that looks delcious but easy and simple to follow and understand.
I appreciate the Japanese vocabulary lesson. Please, keep doing that, too.
Thanks for your comment. Okay, I'll continue to use Japanese on this channel;)
Yes my son loves Japanese food & learning Japanese and watching anime.
He is practicing cooking, hiragana, watching and drawing anime.
I’m sure he’d love to see a champ at work.
Imagine if this guy was your coach.
He'd be your coach, nutritionist and chef all in one.
Much respect 🙏
From India 🙏
Came here from Abroad in Japan's recommendation. Kudos for the new channel and all the best 🎉❤️
Hell yes
Thank you so much!
As a non-native english speaker myself, I'm impressed with how smoothly you're able to explain things. It's a joy to listen to!
The recipe looks great to boot. Definitely subscribing 😁
I know this was just released but this channel deserves more subscribers!
Thank you Chris for sharing his channel, that is how i found this treasure!
Yup me two
Thank you, I am honored to hear that. I'll continue to do my best.
@@ChampsJapaneseKitchen ❤
i just made this and it tasted wonderful! so rich and flavourful!
(i did tweak it a tiny bit: i used shaoxing wine instead of mirin, added in some ginger after steaming the chicken for the 3mins, and added a half of a vegetable cube for some extra flavour)
Teach me, Senpai.
Ofcourse your here CHEFPK! Thank you for all your work!
Lol
Thank you for recommending this channel!
I am the one who should thank you.
Nice to meet you Ryosuke. I look forward to learning authentic Japanese cuisine!
Thank you! ❤
Just made this. Here's my critique. But first, I must mention some things I had to change.
First, I didn't change the recipe at all. It was perfect. I simply had to make more of it. I also added some summer squash and a green pepper for extra veggies for my family. That is the only change I made. I cooked the veggies separately.
For my critique, I'll simply say this. The teriyaki cooked up sublime, making a glaze even with a double batch. The taste was spot on. Needlessly to say, I am very impressed. Arigato gozaimashita! Kono teriyaki ha oishii desu!
It's nice that you made this for your family by making more batches, but this recipe is designed for single portion. Remember, it's a dish that Ryosuke made for recovery after exercise. I'd say the recipe as it is perfect for that purpose.
@@ChauNyan I know what you're saying, but I have enough experience to know that in this particular case, making more wouldn't change anything. He made it for recovery, but I made it for dinner. Lol. It worked perfectly down to the textures and consistencies of the finished product.
@@WaltRBuck I agree. You can basically add or exclude whatever u want. The basics in this case are crispy thigh chicken, the sauce, green onion. I do believe the onion is an amazing complimentary vegetable and should be included. I also made this dish today and it was the first time I nailed teriyaki chicken. In my case I added some freshly grated garlic to the sauce because I love garlic, and next time I will eat it with some rice included. Oh yea I used white sugar instead of brown sugar.
If I have to change anything to this recipe then I would probably want to take out the chicken and onion after they crisp up. Keeping the oil in the pan and start sautéing the sauce for 4 or 5 minutes. When that's done I can pour the sauce over the chicken and vegetables so that it stays crispy.
Hello does this recipe taste very sweet ¿ thanks
Chris Broad got me here!
I think maybe try a meal plan for an athlete...? Maybe bento lunch boxes for someone who is watching their diet with enough protein for athletes.
Hi, thanks for the comment! I'd like to introduce Japanese bento lunch box someday.
Hope this channel thrive! As soon as I found out that Chris’ friend is starting a youtube channel, about COOKING and FOOD, I was immediately sold
Ryosuke has a really likeable personality and his explanations just makes us understand better. Just an overall great dude!
Ps. Props to the editor. It’s Lit!!
Thank you for your warm words. I received power!
This video has really good pacing, very entertaining. I also appreciate that he shows his mistakes, good sign of a real man
Thank you for letting us know what you think of the video. Excuse me for burning the green onionsLOL
@@ChampsJapaneseKitchen no one is perfect trust me I've burned onions and other foods myself especially bell peppers I've burned
Thank you! This is, by far, THE BEST chicken teriyaki recipe I have ever tried. My family devours it! They now prefer my chicken teriyaki to the one we used to buy at a Japanese restaurant. AMAZING! Just try it.
Looks like I am the 4th person to subscribe! Thank you for the recipe!
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoyed it!
@@ChampsJapaneseKitchen I tried it out and went really well! Thank you
@@RaggedyCatProductions look at him now man you really were his 4th
Came here from Abroad in Japan, I love learning Japanese recipes so I'm already staying for that..... but mad respect for the boxing also.
Thank you for your comment!
I will have to say, for a first video, your video quality is phenomenal. Can't wait to see your next video!
Thank you for the best message of encouragement! I got the courage!
It’s better quality than the well established cooking programs that air in my country. (Sweden)
1. The production quality of this video is amazing! I can't wait for more!
2. I like the friendly vibe that you give off. It makes me feel like you are teaching me because you want me to learn, not to get views or something.
3. As someone that is trying to learn Japanese, I appreciate that you try to teach us words and phrases in the video. I keep re watching so that I can practice lol.
This was an amazing start for this channel. I cant wait for this channel to get the following it deserves!
Thank you for your comment, I'll try to use more Japanese phrases from now on;)
めちゃくちゃ映像綺麗✨お腹すいてきた🤤🥩
Thanks Hiro!
I like this lad. Ryosuke seems like a lad to battle you in the ring, and feel the need to cook you a full course dinner after.
Loving your energy Ryosuke ! がんばれ

Amazing, a Champion in the ring and a Champion in the kitchen!
Ryosuke-san, I would love to see a rural dish, something you dont see cooked in the cities very much.
Katsu Curry would be a lovely one to see. I like to see how other people cook theirs
Katsu curry is the best 😋
Makes me smile watching him enjoy his work😊
Woah... this video is professionally made and a torture to watch on an empty stomach :D
Thanks for watching:D
Tried this
But I did 5 mins per step (skin sear, cover, sauce) start med then low heat on the cover and sauce
Sauce I used a bit less honey and added mirin with it same amount as sake
It was juicy, super tender, nice white on it, if it burns it’s still delicious too. Can’t go wrong
I'm vegetarian, but I'm intrigued and look forward to see what else you make! Great video!
We will also introduce Japanese food that even vegetarians can eat, so please look forward to it!
@@ChampsJapaneseKitchen Yay!!
Definitely going to try it. Lovely video, easy instructions.
Can't wait for the next recipe.

Loved your energy man, would love to see a few more recipes of tradicional Japanese cooking
Thank you for your message of encouragement. I was encouraged!
I am happy Chris sent me here. Ryosuke seems like a good man, who explains things well, is easy to understand, is enthusiastic and energetic, and cooks tasty food well. He is also showing his belt like the champion he is in the boxing he used to do (and win).
I don't know man but champ-san has very master like vibes.. from shinya shokudo (midnight diner Tokyo stories)
Thank you! I am just making the recipe now. Can’t wait to try it. I love your energy and tips!❤❤❤ 🇯🇵🇯🇵
I'm so happy the championship belt stayed on the whole time
Abroad brought me here, watched the video. Decided to make it for lunch following your steps. Turned out fantastic! I was a little heavy on the salt but I'll know for next time!
I enjoyed the classy lofi at the end, camera work, environment, recipe in the description and simple instructions/recipe. Very professional; the dish look tasty too! 😋
Thank you for telling me your impressions.
Your cooking is easy to follow. Easy to understand.
I'd be living alone soon in UK for masters, leaving India behind. Any kind of food that a lightly experienced that someone like me could make would be appreciated. Bonus if it fills the stomach while being cheap yet tasty.
Do you eat beef?
If so, try gyuudon. Easiest thing in the world.
@@JayAreAitch I'll eat anything unless it gives me allergies or makes me feel like I wanna puke. But thanks for the suggestion! Before ban of beef here, I had tried it n did get a taste of one of beef dishes so I don't mind trying it out.
@@arnabbiswasalsodeep well when you're in the UK, look in either the oriental shop (or maybe even the local uni shop) for beef rolls. That's the only hard-to-find ingredient. Then all you need is rice, onion, meat stock and teriyaki sauce (or you can make your own like in this video).
Thank you for the comment.I would like to introduce Japanese food that is easy and relatively easy to make, so please look forward to it!
I also started cooking for the benefit of my training. Now I love it
amazing quality, great job
