I hate when people say “if your hair is straight when it’s wet it’s not curly” or “your hair isn’t curly it wavy” when the hair has lose curl pattern. Like did y’all forget fine 3a hair?
That argument always bothers me too. Like who cares what ur hair does when it gets weighed down with water and product, it’s literally being weighed down!!. When my hair dries it’s curly, what else am I supposed to call it??
If your hair is anywhere from 2a to 4c it has a wave/curl/coil pattern. It's like saying to a 4c girl "your hair isn't curly, it's coily". Just... Why
Fr I have 3a hair and it’s hella thick cuz I’m Indian and Indians have THICK hair, but it gets pretty straight when it’s wet and people are always like “oH uR hAiR iSnT eVeN cUrLy”
I have 3a fine hair, my hair is basically straight when it’s sopping wet, but gets wavy as it dries and then once completely dry it’s curly.
Yeah, my hair is straight af when it's wet and it curls af after few hours of drying.
People made fun of my curly hair and now they want it 😐
EXACTLY. Like I was always so self conscious abt my hair and kids at my elementary school would always FUCKING TOUCH IT. And some people still do. And now people PAY to have my hair. The irony 😽
Omg when I was in 6th and 7th grade I was so self conscious about my hair and I would always straighten it. Now people actually want curly hair and everyone’s trying the curly girl method and perming their hair and stuff lol 😂 I’m just glad I learned to accept and love my hair for what it is, and the last time I straightened it was a while ago for a wedding.
Same, my mother used to always ask me why my hair looks like hermoine granger’s and why can’t I manage it when she has straight hair
this kid in my fifth grade class used to literally throw stuff into my hair 😭 it became and inside joke and i never really saw a problem with it then but looking back on it now.... yikes. i grew up in a predominantly white area and literally YEARNED to have straight hair. i’m glad my mom never let me straighten it 24/7 because my hair would’ve been dead by now.
Bruh that's literally my cousin she has like really thick frizzy hair and ppl used to say she had ugly hair but once she found out how to activate her curls everyone was so jaleous and they didnt believe her when she told them she didnt use special products jut water
the worst type of hair is when its inbetween straight and curly and its just frizzy so u have to straighten or curl it u cant just leave it...thats my hair
Edit: Guys i went out and bought hair masks and things to help frizz and curly hair so hopefully it will get better also pls stop replying to this its an old comment but thx for all the feedback xx

"People say the curly hair community is toxic" bruh I didn't even know there was a curly hair community. Also how is it every community manages to be toxic or have allegations of being toxic. It's literally just hair 😭
People like to feel like they belong to something, but that always means they have a conceived notion of how that community should be. So when someone who doesn’t fit nicely into those preconceived notions they get defensive, because it starts to feel like someone is impeding on “their thing”. You were probably asking a rhetorical question but there ya go 😅

There's no such thing as the curly community. non black ppl just hijacked the natural hair community (which was for black woman due to the texturism and racism they experienced)

You are probably not aware of it but look at it that way: your mom probably had tight curls just like you, same with the rest of your family, so you learnt how to best take care of it from a young age.
Many with looser curls (or waves) dont have that. We need to figure it out all by ourselves. No real starting point, but the cg method/community is one. It should be a place to learn about our own hair and figure out how to best take care of it. No matter of skin color or curl pattern.

How didn't you realise? (No hate)
@@lastnickel7666 1st I'm pretty surey hair was straight until I hit puberty. My mom has stick thin hair so she never understood it. She always cut my hair really short. I combed my hair out, it was big and frizzy. My hair was so ackward until I was in my teens like in the mid to late 90s and hair irons where a thing so I straightened my hair and finally was less ackward.one day I took a shower at a bf house no products no straightener and magically my hair was curly..it was strange. Found the curly girl method book. And it changes My life.
Late to the party, but same here. My hair was curly as a baby, then (probably related to products) was rsther straight. I have fine hair, so it gets easily weighed down by buildup. Also mum didn't like "messy" hair, so she probably used anything with silicone in it to get it straighter.
Fast forward to me moving out and being broke at 19, I discovered my hair was acting up. Washed it with cheap shampoo, washed it less often, stopped dyeing it. Et voila, there were curles. Now I mostly just brush it gently when wet and blowdry it to get it straight-ish, njt still with volume. But occasionally I straighten it or go full curls. Great to have that variety!
the curly hair community is so complicated and actually pretty toxic. so many people with straight hair pretend they have curly hair and for what? and then people with wavy hair get hate because their hair 'isn't curly enough'. waves are still curls. i have wavy hair and it looked straight for years because i combed it out so it was super poofy and frizzy, but now i know how to take care of it.

they definitely are toxic I mostly follow the natural hair community and people will attack some people just bc they don’t do their hair the same way or accidentally say a hair type that’s 1 off of what they have bc they think it’s the right one.
All the hair communities are toxic idk why we started communities in the first place they are all problematic all u have to do is forget ur hair type once and call it something else and u will get loads of hate.
I have wavy hair and I find the curly hair community to be toxic because my hair is “not curly”. It’s not like I asked for a looser curl pattern. My mom has stick straight Asian hair and I got my “curls” from my dad’s side (where some of my cousins have 3c-4a hair). My hair is much looser than my cousin’s hair, but it’s very fine and not straight. My mom permed my hair throughout my whole childhood (in the 80s) because she hated her straight hair and didn’t want me to suffer through that... now I just want to accept my waves and want to benefit from curly hair routines so I don’t have to have frizzy poofy hair. My hair is 2A on one side and 2B on the other, I've always been told I had straight hair and if it got "rowdy" i had to flat iron it. It took me 20 years to know what my hair actually looked like cuz I was so used to it being flat. I can't imagine how it's like for someone with 4X hair, but it must also be super liberating to wear your hair freely
i was never aware of the "gatekeeping" of curly hair until i met my ex when i would complain about the upkeep on my hair he would tell me "it's not even curly i'm not sure why you're complaining" but i do have very curly hair so it made me feel ashamed and i started straightening my hair every day before school or a date with him and ended up frying the FUCK out of my hair but i did a huge chop and started taking better care of it and kicked him outta my life officially today soooo :)

Straight hair is rare. Most people who say they have straight hair actually have wavy hair. 💓
I’m really sorry but I’m gonna rant here lmao- so I met this girl (lets call her Alicia) and we’ve been “best friends for a while”. She was always kind of mean to me about my hair, to the point that she told me once that she wants curly hair but definitely not like mine, as it was too frizzy, she never compliments me, and I felt so insecure to the point where I straightened my hair for approval for 8 months, it completely damaged my curls but I felt “wanted” for once. One of my friends recommended I get it layered, and BOOM, it was so beautiful and my curl/waves settled into place, so the next time I saw her she would constantly look at it and even told me for once in our friendship “I love your hair”. Skip forward to 6 months later in July, she has gotten even more toxic, I just got out of the shower and was doing my curl routine, she saw me doing that but I didn’t think anything of it, 3 days later, she posts that she tried the curly hair routine with a few products even though she has wavy/straight hair, I know this sounds stupid to be upset about- but she would constantly tell me to straighten my hair and damage it while I was so insecure about it for years and now all of a sudden she’s copying me trying to get my hair?? Like when my hair gets slightly wet it curls up, hers stays straight- it’s not natural and it makes me feel awful again..or maybe I’m just overreacting haha
Nah, you have every right to be hurt. She made you feel awful about your hair for years to the point that you actively changed it because of her. However, she may have someone in her life, maybe a parent or some other close family member that shamed her for having "ugly" wavy hair when she was little. Or maybe she felt pressured by society to make her hair look less wavy and only recently realized she can look pretty with curly hair. That doesn't justify what she did to you though! It's only an explanation, not an excuse. It's never okay to make someone feel awful just because they were hurt by someone else in the past.
Also, a lot of people's hair looks straight when it's wet if they have fine wavy/curly hair. It's because their hair is so fine that it gets weighed down by the water and appears straight when it's actually not.
Anyways, I hope you feel better soon, and consider ending your friendship with that girl if she continues to be mean to you even after you tell you how her words hurt you. It's highly unlikely, but some people genuinly don't realize when they're being hurtful. It doesn't make it okay, but at least it may mean she can change and become a better friend (IF she apologized and doesn't make rude comments again). If you're uncomfortable being friends with her even after she apologized, that's completely okay! She hurt you deeply, and you have every right to not want anything to do with her anymore.
Best wishes to you, and I hope you continue realizing your beauty and your worth
@@illyGalSloth Oh my gosh this is so sweet, I finally had the courage to start breaking away from her and I would say we are no longer friends. This doesn't have to do with hair, but I have a similar friend. We grew up together from 4th grade and she would always tell me she's better at makeup than me, better at styling clothes, etc. And it was all because I used to be a tomboy. Fast forward to now, I am significantly better at make up than her, and I have a way better sense of fashion ,at least in several people's opinion. Now she always compliments my make up and asks me to teach her. Sooo is it normal for your hair to be "different type of curly" at the same time? And sometimes I wash my hair and it dries naturally into some loose spirals, curls, waves.. and sometimes it dries and it's closer to straight than curly tbh. Why is that?
Giiiiirl I have no idea! I have wavy hair but it's a month that my hair dry straight idk why! I even use curly hair products and a diffuser but they come out straight! During previous months were tight waves af
Lots of people have multi textured hair. I have wavy hair starting at my forehead and gets more curly going all the way through my scalp to the nap of my neck were I have coils. My sister and I did that 23 and me dna test. Turns out we are 75% Irish and the rest is odd bits of German French and remote Eastern European. I would say your absolutely normal.
Is pretty normal so don't worry about it. Curly hair has a predominant type of curl but also has different curls inside. So you could find parts with a heavy curls and others with waves. My hair is very curly but there's a little wavy part on both sides (Near the ears), and also I have some very little parts with straight hair. Is weird but normal for some curly hairs
I feel this lol I have wavy hair only in the back of my head and the front is a bit more straight, I've learned to tame the frizz but I just go around with multi textured hair because I'm too lazy to style it and I don't want to use heat on it at all lol
Sounds like you might have type 2c curls. That's a hair type that is likely to me mixed type. You might also just need to moisturize. I thought I had type 2c hair but as I started to find products that work for me my curls got tighter and I think I have more type 3a-3b curls.
i will never forget how every time i go out someone walks up to me and starts touching all on my hair and pulling it telling me it’s not my real hair, then they go on to telling me i’m hispanic even after i tell them i’m not and that it’s my real hair, sometimes it’s frustrating like why do you care if it’s my real hair or not? it’s not on your head it’s on mine 💀

I wash it upside down, scrunch it and put curl cream in it. If I don't do it, my hair looks dry and poofy like I just got an electric shock or smth. Ppl say that you can only call yourself curly when your hair forms curls without you doing anything to it. I think that's bullcrap. We all have to find out what our hair needs to look and feel it's best. I know this is a first world "problem" and it can't be compared to the amount of effort that goes into maintaining type 3 and 4 hair but still.. It's nice to be validated like that ❤️

Story time-
I’m Asian and ive always wanted curly hair. Once I saw this video saying how this girl thought she had straight hair all her life but recently she discovered it was “curly” after doing this “routine”. It involved lots of products and a bunch of scrunching. As a desperate 12 year old I, of course, had to try it. I didn’t have any products but I did make do with what I had. So I took a shower, did not brush my hair afterwards, scrunched it a bunch, put in a hell ton of mousse, diffused it and wrapped it in a shirt. Not gonna lie, it did turn out kinda curly-ish. But, since it was super tangled and stiff, I had to brush it. And the moment I did, the “curls” went away. My hair was also sticky and gross from the mousse overload, btw. In the end, I gave up because, no matter how hard I tried, my hair is as straight as could be and there were no “inner curls” waiting to be unleashed. That couldn’t be helped with any “curly girl method”. Not saying this method is fake tho, cuz it might work for some people. Moral of the story: if you have straight hair, it’s fine. You can’t force it to be curly unless you curl it or perm it.
Thanks for your time y’all I knew that was kinda long.
the curly girl method was never rlly for ppl w straight hair tho, it just makes curls that r already there look more healthy n defined

the shrinkage on my hair lowkey ridiculous cuz when my hair is dry it goes to about half way down my back like where my bra strap sits but when it’s wet, straight or pulled, it goes to my butt. and no one, including myself barely notice how long my hair is cuz when it’s dry it’s always at the same length (unless i got it short obviously).
sidenote: when your hair grows or when it’s wet, it gets heavier, meaning that your curl pattern will turn more and more to the wavy/straight side ESPECIALLY if you have thick hair or depending on how much water your hair soaks up. i have really thick, heavy hair so it pulls my hair down making it 3b hair but recently i cut my bangs and they’re like 3c so yeah. this might not be the case for all hair types but i’ve noticed 3c and down it’s the case

I'm a mixed girl. I was insecure about my hair for the past 5 years and always wanted to have straight hair like my friends. I didn't know how to care for it, so it got very frizzy and tangled. The thing I was the most insecure about was the "puffiness" or basically volume. Even my friends with curly hair had hair that lay flat; I envied them.
It's just last year that I started a "hair routine". It didn't work very well at first and I kept getting frustrated and wanted to give up. But little by little, I started understanding what my hair needs, and I could finally define my curls a bit. Now don't get me wrong, frizz can also be beautiful, but I had this as an insecurity all my life. My hair stayed big, but now, I wouldn't have it any other way. I finally fell in love with my curls, in all its occasional frizz and tangles. I get a lot of compliments now, but even if someone judges my hair, I wont let that get to me.
PS: for extra definition, use a denman brush! tangle teezers are very good for detangling. to make your hair more voluminous, brush outwards and flip your hair while its air drying! oh and something that will help you with your hair journey; find your hair's porosity. trust me, it make everything much simpler!
And this is to all my curly girls, rock your crown!

I love all the positivity in these comments and the fact that maintaining healthy hair is SO difficult but nobody talks about how those of us w curly hair ("wavy" for me bc it only curls on the bottom) have SUCH a hard time maintaining it. I think it's due to birth control but I do everything to keep my hair healthy, use sulfate free products, try to do the "towel plop" and everything, and my hair is tangled every day it's down, I can barely wear a pony tail and it still tangles. The only time I can keep it from tangling is when it's in a braid. It will literally form a brick on top of my head if I put it in a bun and the amount of times I can actually leave it down to "look pretty", it gets tangled. Having this shit is NOT all fun and games. In fact, it is miserable! You dont know how many times I want to cut it off but society says long hair is pretty and so many men say they love my hair. It's just gross how tiktok idolizes it when I have to detangle my hair EVERY DAY and at the same time cant wash it every day bc it's bad for ur hair. 😩

It’s amazing watching this and seeing other people think the same things as me but the opposite. People with straight and curly hair are so beautiful!! :)
YESSSSS finally someone else pointed out the alcohol point. i've thrown away so many products (finishing them first bc of money) because of that and just never bought them again
