    You make this look so damn easy lol, I just made some acoustic panels and had hell getting things squared. It all comes down to having the right tools to making the job smooth. Defiantly upgrading my tools. Have you seen the all in one table saws

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  8 лет назад

      Thanks. No I not a big fan of the all in ones. But for keeping things square your best option is to use a properly dialed in table saw sled in my opinion.

    will you be posting the plans on your website? I love the design and I'm in the market for a new desk. (and Argosy is a bit far out of reach)

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  8 лет назад +1

      +Robbie Timms I have posted "plans" for this on my website. They are not 100% plans but should be enough information to make your own. diybuilds1.weebly.com/plans.html

    Coming here from SMG, I like good tutorials, so I subscribed. How much did he pay for that awesome desk? And how long did it take for you to build it from scratch?

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  8 лет назад +1

      +Johan Brodd Thanks. If Glenn isn't saying a price I am not either lol. It took me a good month to build because I have a day job and a newborn to attend to so there is very little time for me to work on things.

    • @JohanBrodd
      @JohanBrodd 8 лет назад +1

      No problems at all, I'm in the outlook for a new desk myself, that's why I asked. You certainly got talent. Good luck with your newborn!

  • @thisgoestoeleven

    More on the "business" side of thing: how do you price out a project like this when building it for a client?

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  7 лет назад +1

      +thisgoestoeleven I usually do things at material cost plus gas money because I'm making a video. But I would do double cost of materials total

  • @toomanyclamps130

    Where have you been all my life! (Ok, a bit odd, little creepy, but Thank you). I have been trying to build a studio desk and like messing around with woodwork and watching this has helped me see so many mistakes I have been making (though I wish I would have seen this before I started. Would have saved me a bit...lol). Great Job, excellent work and again, Thank you! (was this all done in 3/4 in CGP?)

    • @DIYBuilds

      +Pie Don thanks. 3/4 oak veneer ply

    • @piedon1051
      @piedon1051 7 лет назад

      Thank you. Also, what is the purpose of scoring your lines? Is that to make the line easier to see and/or help the jigsaw stay in line?

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  7 лет назад

      +Pie Don No it cuts the outside oak veneer so the saw doesn't cause chip out

    • @piedon1051
      @piedon1051 7 лет назад +1

      Ahh, makes sense. Thank you!. I have learned a lot just from this video. Took me a bit, but found a good video explaining why you do a 'two pass' on the miter saw. I would have never know. Thanks again.

      DIY Builds $700 for materials? Is that based on wood? Is there a different kind of wood you'd recommend that could save a few bucks? Not that it's a bad deal just curious

      +DIY Builds Don't forget the $10,000+ in tools

    • @DIYBuilds
      @DIYBuilds  8 лет назад +1

      +Koedix Lol Ya I have maybe a total of $3000 worth of tools. I go cheap mastercraft mostly and my bigger machines are second hand off kijiji that I refurbish.

    • @bastaudio
      @bastaudio 8 лет назад

      +DIY Builds Either way your standard of work and the cost of source of that knowledge also factors into the labor cost as well, so yeah. And that's a pretty cool way to get the stuff you need. I do the same with guitar gear. I take beat up and broken equipment and do what I can to fix it.
