  • With track relaying being carried out at Clonmel station, a spoil train ran from Portlaoise & a set of HOBs (or autoballasters) from Limerick.
    Firstly, at Thurles, GM 071 class no. 079 passes with the spoil train.
    At Clonmel, platform 1's trackbed is dug out and the spoil wagons are moved forward as they're loaded.
    5 miles west of Clonmel, at Lisnamuck, GM 071 class no. 084 hauls the ex-Limerick laden HOB wagons towards the station.
    Returning to the station we see the spoil wagons being emptied and then maneuvered back into position for reloading.
    Finally, west of the station, 084 & the HOBs are seen stationed waiting for the trackbed work to complete & the line to clear. Ballasting would take place later in the evening.
    Saturday 21st September 2013.

    Appreciated Peter, thanks :) It's certainly a positive sign alright although sections of the South Wexford line were relayed with CWR prior to it's demise :( 084 was only released back into service this week afaik, looks well alright, the repaint has taken years off her :D

    Txs Tommy, I'm not actually sure, the return working wasn't listed in the circular. They may have remained in the sidings as work was to continue tomorrow.

    Just checked there they've basically retained their original blue, even that's slightly more appealing than our grey effort!

    That's the first time I seen one too. With a supposed price tag of over €50 million I'd imagine it's the only one alright!

    Track maintenance is a big priority now what with the increased track speeds & frequency of services. Those track machines cost many millions but are needed to keep up with the busy maintenance schedule.

    Thank you as always Seán :) It's something a bit different anyway that's for sure! It's probably a step closer to the demise of the semaphores sadly :( I didn't catch on to that logo change, good spot!

    lol you're not terribly fond of the grey are you :D I'm trying my best to warm to it but it's just good to see they're being looked after though, that's the main thing. The station trackbed had to be dug out, that's a lot of ballast & dirt! They'd be a week at it without the aid of those wagons :)

    Sorry, bit of a boob there, was going by Wikipedia's ballast cleaner page which states Network Rail in the UK bought one for that much....they did but it was an 800m long version :O

    The only ones I know of are between Ballyhale & Waterford, 1 at Rossinan, 2 of them at Dunkitt and I think 1 outside Mullinavat.

    Wow, that'd sure add up on the Wat - Lim line. The combined wages of every gatekeeper wouldn't be a fraction of that amount!

    Ah that's a shame, if only I'd seen the circular this week I may have been able to alert you :(

    The railway line between those 2 towns needs to be reopened.

    The relaying is finished for the moment Seán but there was still ballasting going on all last week. Pity you missed the tamping but it usually happens late at night I think so not great for getting good shots.

      Reopening of the railway line would cut down on Pollution, Car Accidents, Road Deaths & Traffic Jams.

    He's only new to the scene kinda like yourself, his names Seán too as it happens :) I've met up a few times during the summer as he lives near me in Kilkenny, trains have taken a backseat now though as he has the Leaving Cert to face :(

    My God the state of 084!!! I remember when that engine was in the Orange livery it was lovely, now it looks crap, shame on Irish Rail for doing that, And nice video by the way, why were the Spoil waggons in Clomel?

    Where did the spoil train go after Clonmel. Ran around in Carrick or down to waterford and up the Dublin road? Great video as always.

    Well their not exactly alike, but they do look very simular, both of them have the yellow end, the 111s livery has a slightly brighter blue, and where the Irish Rail logo stand on the new livery, on the 111s it says NIR, look it up on google images and see for yourself.

    daniel fiddis Cheers m8, we'd all have loved that but like so many other things it's now confined to the history books. The silver/black livery is heading there too and we're only just getting used to it :/

      @daniel1234567893717 10 лет назад

      daniel fiddis Well there's just the baby GMs left. 175 and 162 were used as Heuston pilots until recently but I think they're now on the scrap line too. Thankfully 141 & 142 are in the safe hands of the RPSI :)

      ***** Is this recently you've spotted it? No doubt it's turned it's wheels for the last time, probably just ran it into the ground 'till it failed to start and just left it to rot away :(

    • @TheIrishMainline
      @TheIrishMainline  10 лет назад

      Not sure I'd fancy seeing it now if it's in as bad a state as you say. That's the thanks they get for all those years of service. :(

    I've never seen the tamper in action myself. redppsh96 caught no. 741 @ Ballyreddin back in june & got some good shots (/watch?v=Q7OufQu5NG0). The sandite almost always runs at night to prepare the rails for the following morning services so it probably wasn't that.

  • @irishrailtrains

    No im not, that livery is just a disgrace that's just copying NIR's 111 class livery, that new livery has to be the worst livery going.
