A tweet reply from Lzzy Hale (lead singer of Halestorm), said, "Actually, the song “I miss The Misery” is a metaphor for the relationship we all have with misery. We as humans are addicted to torturing ourselves via drugs and alcohol, internet negativity. We all struggle with wanting to go back relationships we know are bad for us….."
It's very true. I have relationships that have been dramatic and bad for me, but I want that back, even though I knew it was bad for me. It was a comfortable place. Fun fact... Halestorm was the FIRST female-lead rock band to reach #1 on the active rock chart.

I believe you reacted to Halestorm’s “Dear Daughter”.
Lzzy Hale is the singer, her brother Arejay is the drummer. The inspiration for this song was their parent’s divorce.
The inspiration for Dear Daughter came from their mom, Beth, asking Lzzy if she’d been a good mother.
Halestorm is my favorite band, I’m dang near like a teenager when it comes to them, so my list of what you should listen to is pretty long! LOL
    First album:
I Get Off (this song pretty much launched them)
Familiar Taste of Poison (will probably remind you of Amy Lee of Evanescence)
    It’s Not You
    Second Album
Freak Like Me (kind of their anthem, Halestorm fans are called “freaks”)
Mz Hyde (title track, in reference to the dual sides of Lzzy)
Love Bites-So do I (won a Grammy, first female fronted band to win a heavy metal Grammy)
Here’s to Us (biggest commercial success, very different sound, they close their shows with this song)
I Hate it When You See Me Cry (this wasn’t a single, but I love it. It’s a slow song that Lzzy wrote in bed after a couple bottles of wine, record label was shocked to hear this side of her)
    Third album:
    Amen
I am the Fire (kind of goes with Dear Daughter, this is the heavy side after that little girl grows up to be a strong, independent woman)
Mayhem (hard and fast, like the title suggests)
The Reckoning (she’s been done dirty)
I Like it Heavy (fun and powerful with a surprise at the end)
What Sober Couldn’t Say (slow song, we’ve all been here, the lyrics are incredible)
Unapologetic (also slow, so well written and performed)
    Fourth Album
Heart of Novocaine (slow song. I was listening to the new album when it came out a year ago and when this song came on I had to stop everything I was doing and rewind it. This hit home for me...HARD! For the first two weeks, I think I cried every time I heard it)
    Do Not Disturb
Uncomfortable (Second Grammy nomination. people say they don’t like the hair change, or criticize Lzzy for coming out as bisexual, or that there’s a lot of diversity in their music...Lzzy is tired of trying to fit a mold and responds to their critics by saying if you have a problem, I’ll push it further just to make you uncomfortable)
Vicious (title track, this album has a lot of play on words that I love, a few in this song)
I really did edit down my list, believe it or not. In my opinion, you need to hear their entire catalog! LOL And honestly, they are even better live!
The songs listed from their original studio albums. They do a “covers” EP after each original, so the fourth “Re-Animate should be coming soon. In addition to the 3 covers EPs, Lzzy and David Draiman (Disturbed) did a remake of the Ozzy Osborne/Lita Ford song “Close My Eyes Forever”.

...and I Bet You Wish You Had Me Back
      ...and Skulls
      ...and Daughters of Darkness
      LOL
They have so many good songs!
I got to meet them in May, they were awesome! I didn’t think it would happen, but I asked if Lzzy could sign my license plate (MZ HYDE), but their handler said no. 🤪

I saw/read an interview with Halestorm about this song. They said the idea came from a conversation with someone who had escaped an abusive relationship and was describing how, although they didn't miss their former partner, they had become so used to the abuse that it seemed strange for it to not be part of their life anymore. So, in the sense that it used to be there but wasn't there anymore, they "missed" the misery.

I think the most telling line is "I'd rather fight all night than watch the TV". I don't think it's about actually missing the misery, it's about missing a passionate relationship, something that puts fire into your belly, something that consumes you - and not just sitting on the couch, paying attention to the TV, ignoring each other. You love, you fight, you make up, you make love, all hormones going full steam ahead. It's about the intensity of it all, even if it's not good intensity at times

I could be wrong but I took this song to mean that someone who had been in a bad relationship for so long just got used to it, so when they're in a good relationship, they're just not used to having so few fights or abuse. It's the feeling of expecting the craziness to resume, not that she wants or enjoys being in an unhealthy relationship.

I think a lot of people who relate to this song are survivors of abuse(i am at least) it common to miss the pain and misery after getting out since you've been conditioned to think you deserve it. You can hate your abuser and never want that kind of situation again and still feel you deserve the pain of it

Some of my favorite Halestorm songs are, "It's Not You," "I Get Off," and "What Were You Expecting."

The thing about bad relationships is...
You learn to love the bad shit, it changes you internally.
I miss the fights and bruises

This was a trip up song if I have ever heard one, watching your reaction to this same conundrum is... it is just amazing how when a thought, a song is sung a certain way, like with conviction it forces you to take a second look at like well, I don't think I have ever tried using a pencil to write with the eraser side down; even though its nuts. Great song and my first exposure to Halestorm was the song *ITS NOT YOU* this song has some boss level guitar riffs!

it's better to have a bad relationship with someone you love than to see her ignoring you and don't care about you at all that hurt more than any fight.

I think it could be best summed up as "I'd rather be the tragedy you have with me, than perfect alone", alternatively...
It could also be summed up as, "You were a dick. But the shit you put me through made me a stronger person than I was before you. And I miss getting stronger and more vicious. You shaped me into an animal, but I want to become a beast so that nothing anyone tries to do could hurt me ever again"

maybe the pain and misery of being with that person was more pleasing than the actual person

I think it's more about missing the ability to feel. When you go numb, you just want feel anything, even if it's painful.
