He was the leader of the band Dax Shepards character signed on the show Parenthood too
The All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter said in a track-by-track interview before the album was released that the song was about a single person, but he later explained to MTV News: "It's kind of this tongue-in-cheek way of looking at someone you hate, whether it's your mom, for some reason, or it's your teacher at school, or it's your boss at work. It's just someone who makes you struggle, and it's giving them the finger." The group vocals on this song were recorded at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch studios in California, where apparently alcohol is allowed. Nick Wheeler says that they wanted it to sound like "a bunch of drunk a--holes," so the band and crew had a few beers and yelled the part into a microphone for a few takes.

When I played this song for my mom years and years ago she dedicated it to my dad and she still says the same thing when she hears it to this day.

The lead singer in this band (Tyson Ritter) was also featured in a song called Don't Freak Out by an artist named Huddy last year❕❗ He helped Huddy with the song more than just being a feature, so if you listen yo it you will hear that it has a similar feel to this song because Tyson Ritter allowed it❕❗Ian Dior is also featured on the song❕❗
This makes me nostalgic. I remember every time this came on the radio, I'd crank it up and I still know all the words.
So this song was perfect for me... It came out when I was 23, and had just dumped my bf cuz I found out he'd been cheating on me for several years. So yeah, I sometimes missed him, but mostly I hoped that when he saw me around, seeing me being gorgeous and happy would make him feel like shit. This song was my anthem that year.

I don't know who told you that if someone states that they're not bothered that it means they actually are bothered but they're completely wrong lol. If they keep arguing and defending themselves then they're bothered, but just stating that fact doesn't mean they're bothered, they're just telling you that you aren't bothering them because you're not and you shouldn't be wasting your time.

I was 16 when this song came out. I could have swore this song was way older than that. I thought it came out when I was a kid, it came out when I was in tenth grade.
The logic is so flawed. When I left my ex, he used to try to engage with me by talking about how awesome his GF was, he wanted me to be as mad at him as he was at me. That's not how it worked. If I were a praying person, I would have prayed for nothing but happiness for them! That's fantastic! Go call her now. I was thrilled when I heard he was remarrying and I hope they stay together forever. Anything to never give him the idea that contacting me could ever be a good idea. If I left you? The way i read into it was he Says 'Truth be told i Miss you, and truth be told im lying-when you see my face, hope it gives you hell hope it gives you hell' Like when he says he's lying when she sees his face it means he HAS to lie about how he really feels and be a dick just so it doesn't hurt any more.

When I first heard this song I was 12/13 years old, so no experience with love and exes, not even thinking in this direction while hearing this song. Though I absolutely loved the song and of course I still know every single word of the lyrics.
For me I related it to somebody with completely different opinions, friends, talents, social circumstances and whom I just hate and who hates me as well.
And we`re just trying to put each other through hell :D
The part "Truth be told, I miss you and truth be told I´m lying" for me was referring to a situation like I dont see this guy from school or next door which I absolutely hate for some days.
When I see him, first I say politely "I missed you" and next thought `f*ck it`, of course I didnt miss him, I am lying! and saying it straight in his face. haha.
So the song as a kid for me was all about an arch enemy, and although of course now I see the relationship thing as well, I still like thinking about putting an arch enemy through hell when I hear this song :D

When I was a teenager I had this dog kris who helped me fall in love with dogs again. I was attacked as a toddler, he had my whole head in his mouth. Well when I met Chris he was terrified of everything. He was a racing greyhound and never knew love before us. Well he was so gentle with me and we earned each other’s love and respect. He would protect me from anything even though he was terrified. Well he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (a deadly cancer) and for some reason the only 2 songs I could listen to while he was in the hospital getting his leg removed and the 2 years after before he died was gives you hell and it ends tonight by all American rejects. When I saw you do this, I smiled like an idiot remembering why on this day I can be laying in bed with my moms dog and my Pitt can lay upstairs. So thank you for that smile, I really needed it today while my mom is in the hospital and my disabled Vietnam veteran father in law is upstairs in pain from a bad break with our dog. Thank you sur
