Just been floating around between several characters but Dark Samus is one I keep coming back to and really enjoying. Excited to hear about these buffs. Also somehow haven't heard of Quik until now. Have watched a lot of YB content and really like the fluidity of his style but I'll be studying Quik now.
Her new nair is no melee nair but it has a very generous hitbox in front of her. Once you realize it hits way in front and above her leg it becomes a great tool
@@doobi6343 F*ck, you are right about that. Getting used to the change in Nair was the hardest part. Love that they put air-charging back in after 64 tho lol. Her movement is some of the best in the game, and IMHO no character is better at ledge trapping.
Man, I really enjoyed her back when I was still playing Ultimate. What I love is that in this and Melee, she has such a wide array of useful moves. Even if they aren't the best on their own, a balanced playstyle with her feels more cerebral and creative than lots of other characters. Players like HugS make her look like she's in a Street Fighter game than a Smash Bros game because of careful movement and pokes and traps and combos that aren't easy but are truly beautiful to witness. I just love the idea of "let me drop this bomb to get you to jump into my nair so I can screw up your recovery with missiles so that when you land I can charge shot you and if you still don't die I'll fake the off stage nair, force you to jump early, jump to you and up air you before you can grab the ledge etc etc"
Been playing Samus since melee. I've never really watched much on her gameplay but this exactly explains how I felt was the best way to play. When I didn't care or was tired, sure, zoning and camping was fine, but she can fill this spot with semi-aggressive play that no other character can!
I've never thought of Samus as a purely "defensive" character. I've always hated playing her as such. Since melee I've lived playing her a mid aggressive character.
Because if you play one-dimensionally like that, it means you're becoming predictable, which means you're always gonna struggle in your bad matchups. There's times to rush in and times to hang back, and it's simple advice, but the best players know when to flip the switch.
She’s like Guile. You keep them out with projectiles until they get frustrated and start playing risky. Then you get aggressive and the sudden change in timing gives you free damage.
I've always loved Samus in every game because to me she has the most utility. She was the traditional "armed" character but her close combat moves were still amazing.
I played at a local tournament against a player that has had great success with his Samus, the most annoying thing to punish for me was when I tried to juggle him he would down special the whole way down and push me away with the explosions.
Maybe this guy doesn't do this, but it's worth mentioning that Samus can juggle decently and that doing so and using screw attack higher up kills fairly early
This was an awesome guide, highlighting many general play differences on a character that isn't seen often, in a way that can be translated to anyone's play. Simon and Richter are in a similar spot because their tier placements are often disputed and even though people play them to success in a linear way, we see Riddles at the top able to play with more balance. I'd love to see a similar analysis on his play.
Another crucial thing to quiK's gameplay is his movement techniques. Wavebounce and b reverse charge shot is both flashy, unpredictable, and generally useful for movement. He makes samus look fast.
Good video, should've mentioned how she get out of disadvantage pretty well with bombs and tethers. Watch YB go against Ally and you can see him dance around the danger zone.

My brother mained shiek in those days and i found that samus was one of the few who could effectively counter shiek successfully. Ever since, I've noticed she has an almost consistency in gameplay and ultimate is one of her better fighters. Great to play, and fun.
Long story short: solid hitter that can combo all day and can both recover and ledge guard well when needed tips: use ranged attacks to limit movement and start combos, don't run away and punish aggressive plays with her strong melee openings

I think I already play like this as a series wide Samus main. But I don't use b reversals or pivot grabs. As plausible as it is to pull them off consistently with practice, the online lag I play under leaves me to favor moves that take a lot less skill and function consistently under lag. I love opening a fully charged shot off onto an opponent who just spawned and picks a wrong ground option as a I jump back and forth above them unpredictably. This usually leads into closing the damage gap between us whilst I'm still a stock ahead. And I do the repeating loops of damage at the ledge too where any bomb to grab or other string that works is repeated basically as many times as my enemy falls for it.

I love playing zoners e.g. Samus, FANG, Peacock, but it low-key annoys me when I see people playing pure zoning instead of utilizing ALL the tools those characters possess. I like to play rushdown as zoners, using projectiles to stuff opponents' attacks, like a really long range poke. lol
Idk y but i got hella good with samus and just stuck with her. After seeing YB's Dark Samus and Quik's Samus i learned some techs and strategies and got a better understanding of the character.
Remember when people thought Samus was garbage just because her dash attack wasn't a combo starter? I started maining Samus in the last month of Smash 4 before Ultimate came. I remember telling my friends that Samus felt a lot better overall in Ultimate (midair charging, better damage, consistent combos) but everyone was like "lol naw. Bad dash attack, bad character." Samus is gonna be high tier now, she was already good before, but with the 7.0.0 buff? She’s gonna be a lot more dangerous than she has ever been in Smash
I assume almost all of this applies to Dork Samus too? As far as I know the only differences are in dodge timings and Dirk Samus floating a couple inches higher off of the ground, making her a slightly larger grounded target.
minimal differences aside, they can use the same playstyle, if anything I can say Samus is ideal against bigger targets (she herself shrinks her hurtboxes in midair jumps and rolls) while Dark Samus is ideal against smaller targets (due to the lower angle she fires her Charge Shot)
It's somewhat frustrating. She's never been a full on zoner. People have just wanted to interpret her that way because they don't know how to make the rest of her moveset work, because what's good about it is less obvious than most characters.

Been maining Samus since Melee(Brawl was really tough because she was so slow), and ive always tried using as an all around character. Being really heavy, and great long range, being aggressive with her toolkit leads to great mix ups and just all around fun
That nice sensation when you Land a tipper back Air with Samus
Samaus has a tipper?
@Random Person yes I've made a mistake, Sorry, but Is still so satsfactory Land it
I’ve also liked playing Samus with a mixed play style. Her aerials are some of my favorites. I’ve never really seen any pro Samus players but I’ll for sure be keeping up with quiK
Yb is also really good
Comrade Cheese Thanks, I’ll check him out as well!
@@SSBJack911 esam is well-known also but he never shows her. only pikachu
Proud Samus main here. Finally some recognition for Samus in Smash. I thought I was alone
I've played Samus since the first time she was in the game. Now everyone's starting to play her
A lot of people say homing missiles suck but they jab lock if someone does not tech and combos into dash attack if they do tech
This man is my only hope for feeling like I can publicly announce I main Samus
No please don’t post this, I need to be unique
I feel that dog
Just remember, being unique is both the best thing in the world, and also the worst thing in the world.
@@MisterFiasco care to elaborate?
Theres only 75 fighters out of millions of players
Lol, exactly. At least I also main Ridley
Hey PG.com over 100k views for this video in such a short time. The last video to break 100k was a while back. That means we Love Samus. Find more videos for us to watch!
Considering the recent and decent buffs, I’m kind of excited to see what this Quik guy can do.
Finally, someone else who uses Samus the way she is meant to be played, Balanced as all things should be.
I like that Eugeo tag at the beginning
Wi-Fi Guy: Samus? Pfft, just charge shot and win.
quiK: But what if charge shot not charged?
Wi-Fi Guy: Uhh, excuse me who are you again?
quiK: I see; allow me to introduce myself then.
Bad dash attack, bad character."
Glad a video like this exists.
> be me, Samus main
> is spawn date
> PG video about Samus
feels good man
i really apreciate quik for give me hope to play samus
I think joker’s samus is a bit more advance than quik 🤔
x Ganta where’s the results to show this. That aside I love both of them tbh there’s also a third Samus that make up a nice triangle of content his names slipping me atm tho.
T Sean results im a samus main and i just follow pro samus players to learn from them. So far joker has shown me more than any other samus players lol
@@imjustbawn jokers samus is more neutral based and he knows how to keep consistent using samuses momentum in advantage. quik uses samus a bit different in neutral and uses tricky movement and walls to condition his opponent. he also has better ledge trapping than joker. plus quik has different ways of using samuses laggy ledge options to come back to stage. usually when jokers in disadvantage he stays for awhile while quik gets out easier bc of his movement. overall though joker has placed 2nd and actuaclly won one tourney and quik has placed 2nd at majority of the tourneys hes gone to. so i think in terms of results joker has it but im a samus main myself and i can say i only learned a tiny bit from joker and everything ive learned from quik has better usage than joker. but theyre both super od so it doesnt matter
Everyone: Samus can only throw projectiles and she isn't even the best at doing that.
quiK: I can't beat the smash out of you without getting closer.
Samus is gonna be high tier now, she was already good before, but with the 7.0.0 buff? She’s gonna be a lot more dangerous than she has ever been in Smash
How does Quik cancel his charge shot into a dash/mid air?
I also want to know. How can he cancel his charge shot without an input
Tap the shield button quickly to cancel charge without entering the shielding animation
@@gelivable97 pffft are you serious??? Thought it was some advanced level tech
Wi-Fi Samus is almost a meme.
Wi-Fi Zeldas: Finally. A worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!
It's somewhat frustrating. She's never been a full on zoner. People have just wanted to interpret her that way because they don't know how to make the rest of her moveset work, because what's good about it is less obvious than most characters.
Agreed. I love her whole kit honestly. Too bad her Up Air doesnt combo that well anymore. But she is a great all arounder
@@grennbalze I just feel bad about U-airs landing lag. I mean we don't really need it anymore but....dang it was cool.
But thank god we live in the timeline where Up Smash got fixed. Finally.
@@neonknight5857 There are so many people like Duke of Dorks that complain that Samus doesn't represent Metroid enough. Yet this video proves that Smash fans love Samus.
There is only one way to play, ultra instinct.
As a samus main. Just spam your projectiles
It'd be cooler if they finally made Samus' neutral A actually connect both hits. As it is right now, I have no idea why on earth a basic 2 hit jab combo can't actually connect.
I actually like how you can use the first hit and then run of or predict how they are going to react and punish with a downtilt, pivotgrab or an aerial. It's something that makes her stand out and it's actually probably my favorite jab in the game :D
jab 1 its pretty good at conditioning and as a otg attack.
I'm impressed the proguides still doesn't know that its pronounced 'Glue-Tony'
I’ve called him gluttony since Smash 4 and after hearing from someone the he doesn’t care how you say his tag it kinda just stuck
the guys reading the script probably didn't write it
They also pronounce kameme kuh-may-may instead of kah-mi-may
@@SKITZ_MONEY I am the guy reading the script lmao
Bruh
When are we getting the ability to switch to Ice mode like in Project M though?
That would make Samus hype and give her kill options
What would the input even be? You can't take away her morph bombs...
@@kingofthejungle5338 Side taunt, just like in PM.
She does an animation where she picks up and poses her blaster, which was retooled to also switch her between fire/ice mode. you can see it at this time stamp in the video here:
ruclips.net/video/Zi0oeUbYk5U/видео.html
All attacks that use fire like F-smash, Fair, Dtilt, Usmash, etc get switched over to the ice element for less hits and damage but more knockback and different hitboxes. It was a good idea once you got your opponent's percentage high.
@@natee2666 There are so many people like Duke of Dorks that complain that Samus doesn't represent Metroid enough. Yet this video proves that Smash fans love Samus.
For all the samus mains, we all knew this lets be real
I'll be impressed when someone wins with Lil Mac
@Lord Waluigi just pick stages like colliseum or bridge of eldin and he's broken, oh wait.
Samus is the best gaming character ever .. I didn't realize ppl used her like that in smash. She's my main and I use her melee and air mostly
I just read the thumbnail and thought it was a theory video on how much money did samus made as a bounty hunter
It makes sense that you have to be creative with Samus because she is a bounty hunter.
I saw this and I thought wait .... samus is winning
The videos from this channel are surprisingly accurate and well made for a non established community member
It's good to see her getting some love!
Samus main here. I do ALL of these things. I just need to get better. It’s nice to know that my instincts for how to play her are correct.
The concept of tiers for the most part (I agree some characters just suck) is stupid to think about. It only really matters if all players have equal skill when playing or if skill ceilings for humans have been reached. Neither of which is true
Wow this was a really good video about Samus I won't lie and I even main Samus. Awesome work guys!
"Quik is Europe's second best player behind glutonny"
Mr. R: Am I a joke to you?
I mean, Quik out places Mr. R regularly. I think it's been a long while since Quik lost to him too.
i always destroy my folks with samus, glad she got some shine.
Sooooooo just realized I'm the Mewtwo against the Wii Fit Trainer.....🤦🏽
Mike G really?
@@alterI4 yep ...guess I should change my name huh
I’ve heard Peach is arguably the best character in Ultimate as of now. If this guy is contesting Peaches with Samus, that’s impressive.
I still think it's Joker at number 1, his nerfs were very minor and don't really affect him much at all.
Samus isn't even close to best character, pika or joker is
I'll never forgive Nintendo for handicapping Samus since Melee, but this guy is inspiring.
Didn’t mention fatality when talking about falcon? Has NickC actually had better results?
season 2 of ultimate easily yes, season 3 no
