As you said it depends from the airport. I had problems in Bologna, Italy, because I was carrying 6 batteries but they would allow only two batteries per person.
Just traveled from ATL to Oregon...brought lipos, charger, tools, 2 quads etc..no problem. Daughter got hung up over a 4 oz bottle of face wash...

Possibly the coolest transportation device to get about an airport. Useful as always Mr Steele.
I also traveled with my quad, radio, googles lipos AND MAVIC in my backpack. Checked in only tools and propellers (just in case they consider propellers like a 3 blades knife) and had. I issues at all.

Actually we're only allowed to get LiPo batteries to the plane at storage capacity and in separate fireproof envelopes, we're just lucky security don't pay attention.
Good tips for flyers. Have you ever had anything pilfered from your checked bags?
How about a little wrench made out of plastic? They can be pretty durable and probably wont get confestated.

I think that below 100Wh, the number of spares you can bring depends on the airline company. They are banned in checked luggage for sure.

If you're going to be dishing out advice about this, you missed one key thing - check the airline website. Lipos are restricted in numbers on some airlines so if some kid rocks up with 20 or so lipos as you suggest, they may be disappointed when they have to dump most of them at security.
he actually did say "depends on the airport" so although he didnt specifically say to check the website that seems to be common sense considering what he said. but hey cool points for ya :)

Wine bottle in check-in bag is not very smart... If it breaks it will ruin your stuff and also other people stuff.. You should pack our bag so that you can comfortably drop it from 2m. Sounds excessive, but the bags get a ruff ride.
At least the wine won't ruin his quads, radio and goggles...
Which bag you use for controller and quad ?
I am going from the netherlands to england with a tiny whoop. do I need to put my mini lipo's in a lipo safe bag, should I take a battery for my transmitter with me (I have some wires and a 12 volt supply so I could power my transmitter and fpv receiver from the mains), my tranmitter battery isn't really damaged except for a replaced balance lead with proper heat shrink on every wire, what should be in my hand baggage and what should be in my normal checked baggage.

The hardest time I had travelling with multirotors and lipos was a domestic flight from my local airport (Newcastle upon Tyne) to London Heathrow. The rest of the journey to Brisbane was a breeze, and even garnered fascination from the security personnel. The second most difficult occasion was when I forgot to take out a water bottle (back in the UK on the return flight in Heathrow). They were more annoyed at the water bottle, and smiled about the quad & lipos...go figure... :) rules is rules!
Im in China right now and they checked everything. Since I dont know how to speak much chinese, when they asked me what something was I would say it in english and they were really confused.

I took 12 LiPos through BWI's security once and they swabbed all 12 for explosive material. I was like "really?", "You're going to swab an explosive for explosive material, Hahahaha!" I didn't say that, but I was thinking it at the same time.

I actually had a hard case that I checked in as luggage with my radio, goggles, tools and spare parts. So I can't say I have ever tried to take items like that through security check.

I went to visit my friends in Ireland and flew Aer Lingus and on their website it said you couldn't bring lipos. about a week later I saw you posted a video in Ireland with all of you're gear and busted out laughing. but this video helped a lot can't wait until my next trip.

How long does it usually take in Atlanta when going through security
How is your setup 576grams??? it has the pnp50 and a relatively heavy frame. It clearly flies well but I don't know how it could possibly be that light?

Whenever I see all your "Backup quads" I wonder how much money you must have spent on this hobby. I mean I build my second quad in a few days and i spent like 1300€ on my two quads, predator V2 and a Dx6i... And I don't have any spare parts for frames or electronics.

I just got back from Denver with 11 packs, two quads attached to the back of my pack, and zero hassles.
Hope the trip overseas for you was awesome, the footage posted thusfar has been sick! I'm headed to Ireland for a week in September with my wife, and am psyched for some ripping. Well timed post indeed!
Just went through customs and four airports with my mavic and tons of batteries and other cameras with no issues. No questions were asked and no issues whatsoever.
Definitely airport dependent. Dubai security will confiscate lipos. how many depends on the security dude on the day. 5 out of 10 were taken from me a couple of weeks back. ill probably lose another 3 on my return to Oz.
