    Honestly, when this stuff was happening in the manga, there were some really yikes takes from people. People saying that Touya didn't have it so bad because Endeavor never abused him. Like, news flash, neglect is a form of abuse. Not just neglect, emotional trauma. It felt like people were trying to shift all of the blame away from Endeavor and onto the victim, Touya. Because there are so many ways Endeavor could've handled this differently.
    First, you should never try to live out your failures in life through your children. Side note, Endeavor seeking out Rei to create a powerful weapon is so yikes. It's not an act of love. It's an act of seeking power. Moving on though, once he found out Touya's quirk harmed his body when he went overboard, there are several things he could've done.
    A. Tell Touya that he'll love him regardless on if he can surpass All Might and that he loves him for who he is as a person and not his quirk
    B. Tell him that he can still be a great hero, just not the Number 1. And that he's fine with it because Touya tried his best
    C. Tell Touya that he can still be the Number One hero but only if he finds a way to stop or minimize the damage done to himself(like how the Nurse at UA told Izuku to find less self-destructive ways to use his power)
    D. Actually talk to Touya and stop expecting the problem to just go away, especially since he created it
    If all of that fails and he still decides to have more children, there's always one final option(hypothetical if Endeavor had treated Touya somewhat better)
    E. Stop training Shoto and Touya separately. Some heroes become partners to cover each other's weaknesses. He could show them both love and have Shoto cool off Touya when he begins to overheat and have Touya go for more powerful fire blasts that Shoto can't do. Raise them as sibling heroes
    But he didn't do that. He instead ignored most of his family. When he wasn't ignoring them, he was harshly training Shoto or yelling or hitting Rei. Touya saw that he was born and tossed aside for his father's ambition. He revealed that he'd been watching his family after he burned up too. And he likely saw that Endeavor didn't change even after his "death". Endeavor got worse. He was replaced in life. And his death didn't change anything. He probably questioned why he was born at all. Until there was nothing inside him but emptiness and hatred. This was the wrong way to put out a fire. And that's how Dabi was born.

      We only see one instance of hom actually hitting Rei, and Toya's death did change him, but for the worst, he had to double down to give his death meaning over the guilt that he was indeed responsible for his son death's otherwise it would mean he lost his son for nothing in the end and he couldn't face that. Toya's death was what completely broke that family but it was definitely not the start of the damage, it was just the end result of what kept piling on.

      @alexinator-hh5fe Год назад +21

      @@asianpersuasion4901 I mean, if you blame Dabi for what he's doing now, that's fine. Because he's hurting people. There is a distinct difference between blaming Dabi for his actions as Dabi. And blaming Touya for what happened to him as a child. Some people do the latter, which is yikes. Because he was a child. And Endeavor was pretty horrible as a parent and husband. You can sympathize with a character because of their backstory while still acknowledging that what they're doing in the present is wrong

    Yeah, I say this a lot, but this was called “The wrong way to put out a fire” for a reason. It’s honestly a perfect way of looking at what Endeavor did to Touya. Endeavor sparked the fire, and instead of giving it calm and gentle water or something to put it out, he basically poured gasoline and paint thinner on it, and then proceeded to ignore the fire and let it build, not realizing that he was not only the root of the problem but also the main one making it worse.
    And by the time he did realize it, it’s all just too little too late.

    After Rei flung that boiling water on Shoto, there was a scene omitted from the anime.
    After throwing the boiling water in the manga, Rei immediately felt regret and apologized to Shoto for what she did; trying to heal him with her ice ability in her panic. Applying her cryokinesis to Shoto's burn resulted in his scar.

    This episode broke my heart bc you can see how endeavor pushing his beliefs onto touya made him obssesed with not letting his dad down even if he was hurting himself badly in the process. Endeavor gave him zero attention after giving him all his attention as the first born & just pushed him to the side after saying he was a failure bc he couldn’t accomplish the only thing he was born to do & expected touya to not have immense trauma? It’s so sad

    The thing is Endeavor didn't want Touya to get hurt but Endeavor himself didn't give up on his selfish dreams. "I want Touya to stop cause he's hurting himself" - that's care and love. No doubt about it. But as soon as he said - "This is the only way to stop him (implying that he wants more kids to surpass All Might and replace Touya). Touya could never surpass All Might." - That's not love and care. That's called being too selfish to understand what you actually have to do for your child as a father. Endeavor cared to some extent, no doubt about it but he was also very selfish and there's no denying it.
    What's sad is that, in season 2, Rei was telling Shoto to become a hero that's not like his father. But here she's telling Touya not to become a hero at all. And that broke him. Also, I know Touya was being rude to his mom and he shouldn't have said those things to her, but he was spitting out facts. We don't know what Rei's actually situation was, but according to Endeavor, she could've refused this whole quirk marriage agreement. But she didn't do it. She knew this was all wrong yet she went along with it. Later she gave birth to Touya and now she's giving him advices about life choices and stuff. Not gonna lie, but Rei was also being a bit hypocrite here. Not only she failed as a mother but also her words were contradicting her actions. Touya got mad because she was discouraging him to become a hero unlike what she usually did with Shoto and also she was giving him advices that she never followed herself.
    Like imagine a 13 year old child saying things like this to their parents - "You'll be glad that I was born" or in the manga version - "You'll realize that I wasn't a mistake"… Pathetic and depressing. This episode demonized Endeavor for me personally even more. And he also neglected Touya (also the other siblings). Many people don't try to understand this, but neglect is also a form of abuse - mental, emotional or psychological abuse, however you say it. Maybe Endeavor never raised his hands on Touya, but he mentally and emotionally abused him (maybe Endeavor wasn't even aware that he was abusing Touya, but he was doing it anyway...). And abuse is abuse; it doesn't matter if it's physical, psychological or sexual. There isn't one that's worse than the other.

    There is still one BIG piece missing of why Toya became Dabi from anime onlys.
    What makes Endeavor's character so well written is that you can't purely like him and you can't hate him either.
    Sure he didn't terrible stuff to his family but he also risks his life to save innocent people and is trying his best to atone.
    Many say that what he did can't be redeemed and I hard disagree.
    Putting your life on line fighting to protect strangers against the strongest villains in history more than makes up for it.

    I think Jack is getting all wrong, think like this are you really gonna let you paraplegic kid dream about being a cop or your asmatic son be a firefighter

    • @danondivanov8316
      @danondivanov8316 Год назад +2

      Going by your example, you also completely neglect said kid in the process while you keep having kids in hopes that one of them will eventually be able to replace him by being born perfect for achieving *your own* dream of becoming a cop/firefighter (let's not forget that it was Enji who put his ambitions on Touya's shoulders in the first place). And you know that being replaced will hurt your son because you *intend* to hurt Touya badly enough by doing so that he would give up (the implication of the dialogue between him and Rei before having Natsuo).
      If Enji had actually cared about protecting Touya's well-being this much, he would've given up on his own ambition to beat All Might and focused on his family, on spending time with Touya in a healthier manner. Instead, he keeps setting a toxic example for him by never giving up his ambition and then acts surprised when Touya does the same because Touya idolizes him as a role model. Enji had the power to stop the abuse at any point and actually care for his family's mental well-being instead, but he *chose* not to.

    • @Asianstreetsfood
      @Asianstreetsfood Год назад

      @@danondivanov8316 so you're saying that the only way endeavor should show he's love for Toya is to never had another kid ever again 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

    • @danondivanov8316
      @danondivanov8316 Год назад +1

      @@Asianstreetsfood No, I'm saying that he shouldn't have tried to live out his own failures through his kids in the first place. He shouldn't have made more kids that could've ended up with worse quirk matchups than his firstborn, after the same doctor gave him a warning about playing with eugenics. In fact, he shouldn't have even started playing with eugenics at all.
      But he never had kids to care for them, he had them solely to force his failed ambitions on their shoulders. He had them as tools needed for achieving his long-time dream, and treated them as such, running away from any parenting responsibilities times and times again. And forcing Rei to deal with *his* parental mistakes on her own.
      He should've shown his love for Touya through care and attention. Yk, the same thing Touya continuously asks from his father when saying: "Look at me"? The same thing every child deserves to have from their parents unconditionally, without having to try and earn it through proving their worthiness.
      He should've given his kids an equal amount of attention. Should've shown that they matter to him more than just the potential of their quirks. Touya so obviously looks up to him as a role model (he even repeats the words he overhears from him at 4:09 - 4:36). If Enji could've just set the right example, given up on pursuing his selfish dream through his children, actually spend some time with his family, and showed that he cares, then slowly, but "The Fire" he put under Touya would've been put off.
